Crank Brothers don’t have a popular following here.

You will not pay duty or VAT buying from Germany if you are in UK, just postage.

Got to be honest I don’t find that much difference (maybe I don’t ride rad enough!), just that I like carbon and have weight weenie tendencies.

Something from Giant. Can’t go wrong for the cash.

….like the Giant Anthem. Mine was an X4 26er, but has been seriously upgraded over the last 6 months and is now 24.5 lb and is so easy to ride but eminently chuckable. Age 50 is history for me (61) but this bike makes me feel young again (gee that sounds naff!!) The Anthem 29er is getting great reviews at the moment.

Centre of bar to centre of steerer tube.

You pays your money and takes your choice – stiffness/finish/quality/blingness/branding

26ers were just a flash in the pan and would never have caught on anyway. 🙄

Not a bad read as I’m just getting into singlespeed. Nice to see the NS Analog featured as I’ve just built one from frame and better bits than full built one – and cheaper too. Handy read for someone looking for a new bike. Bit too much bikes and gear and not enough features for me though. Not going to keep me occupied for 3 months.

Still at least it hasn’t got pictures of open wounds and ugly faceplanted faces. 😯

Wide bars are for stability at the expense of controlability. Frankly I don’t go along with the trend and feel comfortable with bars in the 660-700 region, depending on bike type. If you don’t like them wide just bite the bullet and trim them down until you are comfortable but make sure you have enough room for the brakes/shifters etc. try 10mm a side until you are more comfortable. Guidelines and trends are crap, just do what you are comfortable with. Going from 580 flat to 710 riser is a bit of a jump that would take a bit of getting used to.

In my experience Tech Evo X2’s are superb and are fit and forget once set up in the correct manner as shown in the Hope video.

However I’ll stand aside now and let the usual band of Hope haters come in to sway you.

Route choice is going to be restricted unless you commit to leaving sea level.

Oi, give me a chance, my old fat legs are not used to this. Anyway I’ll get plenty of gnarly singlespeed experience when I take it on an extreme biking holiday in the Maldives this summer.

My SS arrives tomorrow – from Mango, 700c wheels, bullhorn bars and 44/16 ratio. Cant wait

I did think of a Mango but like building my own bikes and spending double 😉

Well I haven’t been able to wear my Fox Striker helmet this last few weeks because with the zero or below temp and a stiff wind my head was bloody freezing. Fresh air whips through it very efficiently. Now using an Urge piss pot helmet until the weather warms up. The Striker is great in the summer.

That helmet can’t be very comfortable.

Amazing machine though, but isn’t 3D printing the way to go.

Lots of people in this thread see a problem.

More people getting insulted in this thread than agreeing with you.

Seems like someone got out of bed the wrong side this year.

I’ve been using a Fuji X10 this last few months, lovely camera. Smallish with retro stylee with controls in the right places for someone used to an SLR and a viewfinder. Couldn’t possibly use a camera without viewfinder.

Zee works well for me on a 1×10, but make sure you get the right one for your cassette.

The first one is an utterly gopping mish-mash of random angles. The second pic is better because of the straight line of the toptube/seatstay. I don’t really like either though. Not Art!!

Haha somebody has to buy it new so that you can get it secondhand 😉 If everybody wanted secondhand…..

Pair of pedals ordered from CRC 4pm yesterday, arrived 11.30 today. Didn’t like the shade of colour (yeah sad I know) so posted back free via Collect+ by 12.00 – all free. Can’t fault this.

As a study in workmanship with wood its amazing. But as a bike I find it grotesque. Design for design’s sake.

Seems to be branded Mongoose so we won’t be getting it in UK. The Mongoose branded Walmart bikes (not really Mongoose as we know it) are US only. Maybe that’s a blessing.

Forget it. Go for Deore 596. Even cheaper.

Have to disagree with the bike in the first pic being cool, it looks utter cock.

If you were buying the frame originally (2009) the anthem frame was 995 and the flux frame was 1800.

Well last year I bought the whole bike brand new (2011 X4) for £1150 and have since done many upgrades making it even better and its 24.5 lb. Love it!

Maybe I’m biased but i’d say the Anthem, its a class frame and responds well to upgrades and lightening too, making it a very sprightly and responsive bike (niche 26er I use).

Different cable pull needed for caliper and V brakes???

Yep, the Dia Compe levers I’m using can be set up for either.

OK, build of this bike has started with a few bits trickling in. Waiting for wheels from Single Speed Components and a few other bits and pieces. Got some v-brake clamps for the forks so will have front brakes. Apart from frame, forks and grips everything else will be black. Look forward to finishing this and giving it a try, been wanting to try singlespeed for a while 🙂

I don’t think its too drab!!

The K-force Light 386 is a great chainset that I have been using for a several months now, strong and light and still as new. Most of the downsiding is done by people with no real experience of them, they won’t fall apart if a twig hits them, rings are available though not as easily, they can be used with other bottom brackets. One of my sets (I have two) is used on a Giant Anthem BB92 Shimano press fit and works fine. The other bike uses the ceramic bottom bracket that comes with it and both work fine with no problems. You can see why FSA state that it should only be used with the correct bottom bracket because it sells for £150+ and is money in their pockets. Don’t believe everything you read on forums its mostly hearsay.

    It’s a Mongoose Teocali Elite.

These are nice chainsets and brilliant for the price, but don’t buy a FSA 386 if you expect to be able to get a range of different sized chainrings or are heavy on your chainrings as availability is poor.

To be honest, if I was fortunate enough to be in a positon to own a Gallardo LP570-4 I would jump at one of these regardless of all the sarky comments. But then another thread would have to be started here:

‘What bike rack for a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4??? Talk to me!’

    Can I join in too….

I’ve just bought a second hand seatclamp. Anybody got a spare Yeti ASR5 carbon frame you can donate to me. I’ll pay £2 towards postage.

    Jeez!

which is why hardly anyone makes anything under 2″

Eh? there’s loads out there – for example WTB Vulpine 1.9, Panaracer Mach SS 1.95, Continental Double Fighter (a bit heavy though)- all of which I have used and are excellent fast rolling tyres but with good side knobs for grip in corners and rocky stuff.

Wider tyres have less rolling resistance than narrow ones (at the same pressure) due to the different shape of the contact patch. FACT. Narrow tyres are only faster above the point where air resistantance has more of an effect than rolling resistance.

Don’t know what thats all about! Sounds like NON FACT to me. Use higher pressures with narrower tyres and rolling resistance is lower and wtf has air resistance got to do with it??

The OP is asking for narrow, fast tyres for hardpack, gravel etc the ones i’ve mentioned above do that and on road too. And that’s from experience not some theory. And the WTB and Panas are light too.

I think if using IS to PM adapter you have to go up a size in rotors. I may be wrong though as I’ve never had to do it myself.
