A thermos flask with the handle pointing up? No it doesn’t get better. Tried a Plasma for a while but decided to give up on masochism so sold it on. A Fizik Tundra went the same way too.

Have you contacted Hope directly, they have excellent customer support and I’m sure they will help you if you tell them you can’t source.

Glad I bought Tech Evo M4’s now.

Having read the thread title, rather disappointed now….

They’re still featured on the Raceface and Silverfish websites. Dirt overreacting to threats? A patent existed for this from the 70’s but now expired.

You’ve just got to bite the bullet and try it. I’ve got 11/36 on rear and 36 up front. If I’m killing myself on the odd hill, I’ll walk the bike to the top, I ain’t proud. If legs are spinning frantically downhill, I’ll freewheel. You just gotta get used to it, but its worth a try.

It’s A Good Idea TM to make friends with your LBS

..why? I mean, like, I already have perfectly good friends!

Because some people think they are ‘friends’ with their LBS and expect to get freebies and discounts when all the owner wants to do is releive your wallet to the max. I don’t expect to be ‘friends’ with my chip shop, newsagent or hairdresser but I am friendly to them. There is a difference between friendly and being friends.

Anyway I don’t use my LBS (2 mins ride from home) because its rubbish, but I know him well and he knows what I think.

If your wife is light (weight) you’re better off paying the extra for solo air forks. The springs in the Recons will be too stiff for her weight. Recon gold solo air are great if you can find offers on them.

If you search hard enough you will find reports of cracked frames from just about any manufacturer. Don’t worry, just ride! Its a great bike.

Anyway, when did this become a cracked frame thread?

No I wouldn’t buy secondhand carbon bars for the simple reason you don’t know what you are getting, there are so many Chinese knock off copies out there at the moment, its a danger buying new nevermind secondhand. Some time ago I bought a new FSA K-force light carbon bar from the big auction co, yes they were cheap. I remember being a bit disappointed at the time but now I realise they are probably knock offs. Not in any original packing, silk screening slightly out of register, silk screening marked too easily, 20g over specced weight and poor finish on ends. By contrast I bought an Easton Haven bar from a reputable source to replace them and no regrets as they are perfect. I personally won’t pass the K-force on secondhand as I’m not convinced they are real but there are many out there who would. So from then on I have always bought new from a reputable source.

8deg rise is not going to give him the lift he needs. +1 NS Bikes or Octane one bars, I have a couple of 3″ rise on some of my bikes.

I hope this thread doesn’t trigger a spate of random helmet poking incidents at bike shops nationwide. 🙄

2-3 inches is a huge lift. Why not simply fit a new bar with a higher rise, 30-40mm, the one on the Giant is probably quite flat. That way you won’t have to mess around with unobtainium Giant overdrive 2 compatible stems.

Yes use it. In the context of a bar clamp 0.1mm is neither here or there and almost within the realms of normal tolerances. Torque up to the recommended value though.

Flip flop hub rear wheel gives you both options. I prefer freewheel too but flip the wheel occasionally.

Depends on your taste really. If you want a bit of colour fun, go for the Mango. If the classic anonymous look is what you want go for the Single Malt.

At this price all singlespeeds will have just adequate parts, will work fine (for a while perhaps) but won’t be of outstanding quality, nice to ride though.

I build my own bikes, so put one together from selected better quality bits to my own taste (questionable taste some would say) but it cost around £500 to build. Great fun to ride though and a bit different.

Never, ever feel sorry for American TV hosts. They got what they deserved. Brand is good at this sort of thing.

    I use an FS bike.

    I also use a Hardtail.

I also use a rigid fixie.

I use what I want for whatever I want to do. 😀

My son has a Cannondale RZ with non-tapered 1 1/2 steerer, there are a few aftermarket stems around for this at least, but choice is still fairly limited. I wouldn’t buy a bike with non-standard stuff on it as I like to mess around with components and am choosy with my stems 😉

The newer Anthems have Overdrive 2 which has a taper from 11/2 to 11/4 so no getting replacement stems is a pain, I don’t think many stems are available except from Giant. My 2011 Anthem uses Overdrive 1 and has a 11/2 to 11/8 taper which is altogether more sensible.

I presume you’re asking about bike frame stickers, if so +1 for Gil at Cycleshed. He did all the stickers for for my ’95 Mongoose Amplifier. He is highly respected on Retrobike forum and has loads of files for old bikes ready to go.

BTW you don’t need any sort of press for these, they just drop in. 🙂

The one you linked to above is Campagnolo 46mm dia 45/45. Campy spec is 41.8mm dia 45/45. They are not interchangeable, maybe you need to get measuring. Campy headsets are generally associated with BMX or jump bikes so you often find tham in dealers BMX sections.

Here’s one I fitted to my NS Bikes Analog

Been using roof mount frame clamp carriers for years now. Never managed to ‘scratch the hell out of my bike’ maybe I’m too careful, don’t see what the fuss is about.

Arrived this morning. Having spent £1000’s over the last year or so building/restoring/upgrading four bikes, I decided it was time to stop. I lasted all of 7 weeks and 4 days then I saw this….

I was essential that I purchase it as it very nearly matches my Crank Brothers Cobalt champagne wheelset. Yeah I know, sad 🙁

    Any sample images guys?

Don’t know what you are hoping to glean from small photos posted on here. Go onto some of the better review sites like dpreview or stevehuffphoto and look at hi-res samples.

    +1 Fuji X20

I’ve been using an X10 for over a year. Reasonably small, all the facilities you need, great image quality and focusses great since a firmware update a while ago (there were a few problems before but never really got in the way). With zoom ring on the lens, a viewfinder and exposure compensation on a top dial great for people used to an SLR. Its my goto camera now, the SLR system generally gets left in the cupboard. I used to use a NEX before, small but still too cumbersome to carry around all the time so sold it.

X2 Tech Evo’s rear, M4 Tech Evo’s front – 16.5 Stones light I am. X2’s still plenty powerful for rear unless you like to lock the rear up at every available opportunity. Trouble is you’ll definately want new Hopes for front once you feel the X2. The lever feel and modulation is way improved over older Hopes.

I can’t see this working without a major upgrade of attitude and skills for the staff at Halfords. I hope it happens as effectively Halfords is my LBS(?) but don’t use it much as nothing much of interest there. Their latest advert in MBUK is a six page cover foldout showing stuff from FSA, Hope, Thomson, Troy Lee, XT and XTR etc none of which is currently available (bikehut anybody?)

Given this huge advert they have some way to catch up, unless all the good stuff is going to be web buy and collect, which is rather defeating the object.

Also given the huge adverts, you can guarantee that Carerra, Boardman and Voodoo will continue to get great reviews in MBUK and Bikeradar.

Fulcrum Red Power XL from bike-discount.de – a little bit over budget at £168 but worth it, nice wheels, fairly light, have them on one of my bikes. Buy them from UK if you want to pay £50+ more. 🙁
