I got a towwhee from the States which am really impressed with. Can now drag my daughter up pretty steep inclines, and she is much happier that she is still able to steer her bike when attached. Also, as i have a dropper seat they sell an extra attachment where i can loop it around my waist. Doesn’t live on the bike and can take it on holidays if i ever hire something when away. Seconds to clip and unclip as well.
Only negative was the import tax i had to pay when it arrived from the US.
nicnagFree Memberecho the above. only managed the Sunday which I felt was a little pricey on the day, but the eldest had a go at most things, the highlight being the segways. Youngest (5) was sulking as she couldn’t ride her bike anywhere until the races had finished, after which she spent a good hour on the pump track…day rescued. Think we are going to try the eliminator in August…same crowd and format it seems.
nicnagFree MemberHad a group lesson with ridelines but was a mixed ability group and for me, didn’t spend enough time on actual sections of trails, mostly using the easy skills area covering the basics. Teaching was ok but guess I was looking for a little more.
Last year booked a group session with cairnmtb, turned out to be a personalised lesson as the other guy didn’t turn up. Alex was brilliant and actually had me practicing on red and black sections which I would ride anyway…found this helpful for further rides. Back for a 1to1 session with Alex in a couple of weeks…worth every penny.
So yeah, cairnmtb for me. Won’t use anyone else.
nicnagFree MemberJust as a heads up, if you choose the boardman (or anything at Halfords) today’s the day to buy. Extra 10% off all bikes, then bc discount on top and maybe topcashback makes it great vfm. Also considering it as a +1 for my xc rides.
nicnagFree MemberAnother enduro newbie here, in fact first time I’ve gone off piste so found it a real baptism of fire. Lost count of the number of times I came off…all in super slow motion so no damage done.
Some of the chutes I just bottled completely and walked/slid down so was very very slow, but managed to complete all stages, which I was impressed with as stage 1 had me thinking I was so out of my depth I’d just head home early and write the event off.
Didn’t see any untoward behavior (excluding my appalling line choices), although there were some groups out who were very vocal but more with each other than strangers.
Anyways, will be back next year to beat my times, which shouldn’t be too hard. Also doing the Falkirk funduro and hoping I’ll be able to stay on the bike a bit more!!
nicnagFree MemberAlso considering a Jeffsy right now, but am wavering between this and the Escarpe 29 VRX. Probably prefer the colour and the specs of the Vitus, but cant find any recent reviews, whereas the jeffsy seems to be loved by all.
But nice bike anyway.
nicnagFree MemberAm one of the 500 riding.Hoping to do the full 40 miler, still deciding between ht and fs.
nicnagFree MemberWell that went well…
Rang up Leisure Wheels..
“i’m interested in the Stumpjumper FSR Comp 29”
“Oh, we don’t have any left”
“how about the 650B?”
“Nope….”
“oh”
Now admittedly they said they can do me a good deal on a 2017 model.. but you know what, that REALLY irritates me that does… if you don’t have something then have it taken off the sodding website !
Minor rant over.
Can’t add much to the bike debate I’m afraid, but I do agree on this point. Freeborn also have the stumpys on their site as fully available….am sure they will have them in stock, as why would a site allow you to order one online if not.
As an aside there is a nicely upgraded one on pink bike, but sadly way out of my budget.nicnagFree MemberAnother entrant here. Will be on ht 29er. Still have a bit of a cold and a fairly sore hand but am hoping both will have magically disappeared for tomorrow. Looks like heavy rain forecast too…still, am sure it will be fine
nicnagFree MemberI have the cheapo universal steel bars on my car. They are a bit of a faff getting them on, so I just leave them in all weathers. They have been going strong for a couple of years and have carted roofboxes and bikes around the country without issue. They do however now have an aerodynamic bend to them and are a bit noisy, but at the price (about £20) no real complaints. Wouldn’t leave anything of any value on them overnight as the locking mechanism is poor. Might push the boat out and get the aluminium ones next time.
nicnagFree MemberSame height as me and I have a large. Medium felt too small. Strangely though halfords employee also told me a mefium would be the correct size. Maybe they have a surplus of medium frames 8)

This is what puts me off buying this. Replacing,
saddle
seatpost
possibly brakes
tyres
pedals
mech hanger
rear mechanything else to add
Apologies, rear mech was a typo should have been mech hanger. And all the rest are personal, suspect lots will be fine with stock. For me that still keeps it under 1500 and no other new bike could compete.
nicnagFree MemberAnother member of the Boardman club here. Too much of a bargain to resist 20% in store, then 10% BC then 10% vouchers, then a few % topcashback. Net amount was about £950. Took it around carron valley today….no complaints. Ordered new pedals and saddle. Dropper will be fitted immeniently, and then new tyres next on list. Brakes seemed OK, but will monitor. Am expecting rear mech to need replacing. But still seems great value for money.
nicnagFree MemberHalfords told me it would be a couple of weeks until back in stock…which seemed to coincide with the 15% off offer. Strangeky they seem to be available through boardman bikes, also owned by halfords, but can’t use discounts there,
nicnagFree MemberDon’t know if it’s still the case but it always used to be cheaper booking through the French version of the Euro Disney site. We also stayed at the Sequoia lodge and certainly made the most of the buffet breakfast. Actually wasn’t expecting too much from.the visit but ended up having a fairly good time…despite it being in the midsts of winter.
The firework display was very impressive as well.nicnagFree MemberOk just checked. Fully extended there is maybe a mm max front and back movement, not noticeable when riding
nicnagFree MemberBased on my experience I can’t remember significant back and forth play on my new DX fitted a couple of weeks ago. Agree on the side to side though. If I get a chance and remember I’ll double check tomorrow.
nicnagFree Memberyep, another first time hiker here. Way too much non-rideable stuff for me (well uphill anyway), and felt the markers could have been better…got very lost at one point and ended up hitting the Barrowburn café twice :(. Glad I did it, but will think hard before doing next years if the walking to biking ratio is going to be similar.
