Love this route, best done in clockwise direction IMO. Love the descent from Whinstone Lee Tor to Cutthroat Bridge and Nabs Wood to Derwent Res. As flyingmonkeycorps said, take care on following route as easy to take wrong turn at Whinstone Lee Tor and miss descent from Cutthroat Bridge to Ladybower Inn if your not careful.

I pay £15 per brake for disc brake service at LBS so £90 for your 3 sets f+b

We’ve been working with Jon, just today in fact, on trying to get more products reviewed on line in a swifter fashion, though it might still take a month or two between Fresh Goods and a thumbs up or down.

I think gaining access to more reviews online and quicker is a great idea. Especially as many people will, as I do, browse the net for reviews on gear, ask on forums etc before parting with there hard earned cash.

For what it’s worth I would like to say that the various options of subscription are a great idea and I for one are v happy to pay an online only subscription to dip into mags online rather than commit to buying a mag at £5.75, which in all honesty I would not pay for. I will keep up my WMB for hard copy reading as the content generally appeals more to me and my budget. That said, some of the articles in STW are v good.

Keep up the good work but please continue to explore putting more reviews online so we all have access to them much sooner without waiting for the mag review much further down the line (which from what I read on here is not the main reason subscribers buy the STW mag for anyway). A good compromise all round?

I love the STW forum but tend to buy WMB as I like the gear reviews and they tend to be aimed at a cross section of riders ability and budget. Ok they don’t do the same number of articles as STW but when they do they tend to be more UK based and less biking down some random European mountain that a majority of us wouldn’t have the budget to afford. I’d really like to see some more low to mid end budget reviews such as bikes around £500-1000 mark and clothes under a £100 that are not Gore or similar budget. I joined as an online subscriber so I can perv at the mags now and then but for pick up n read over and over when killing some time or sitting on the loo  its WMB everytime. Don’t get me wrong I do aspire to owning a £2k full susser but I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that’s out of most peoples budget.

I appreciate that STW is not trying to be anything like WMB etc and caters for different riders generally and I respect that hence not buying the actual mag (more here n there if I like a particular article). Not saying it needs a wholesale change but a nod to the more budget conscious here and there would be nice :)

I have a Boardman Comp and love it. As long as you go round the bike with an allen key and check everything you will be fine. They are boxed almost complete, the Halfords person shouldn’t need to do much other than attach handlebars and do PDI etc.

PS. Don’t ever ask them to bleed your brakes lol

Will think about the Rev stand some more. Gutted the andystand doesn’t fit as that was exactly what I was after. Something simple that held the bike for washing / basic maintenance which was also compact and not too expensive. C’mon Andy design a universally fitting stand :D

Checked with Andy and the andystand is not compatible. Anyone got a Revolution Tune up stand that can give some feedback on quality etc? They look good value for £50.

Bit more than I was budgeting for Burls72 but looks nice. I’ve emailed Andystand to check compatibility as that looks spot on. Bikes a Boardman Comp if anyone happens to know if they fit.

Not sure it will fit on my bike. I have an FSA Alpha Drive crank set

Would normally be up for a jaunt away but this month is not good with most weekends tied up already :(

Will try and get over to Treads one week as soon as I’m free again be good to meet some other like minded biking buds!

I tend to venture around harlestone firs as just down the road but go peaks a fair bit.

Recently bought some Polaris 3 quartz 3/4 bib tights here http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/polaris-3-quartz-bib-tights-id45393.html

Would recommend them highly, nice and warm but wick well and not too shiny. Kept me warm last Saturday when being pelted by hailstones and heavy rain despite being wet.

Does it have to be a combined pump? If not this is all the shock pump you need and at a bargain price http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Beto-MP-035-Suspension-Fork-Shock-Pump-RRP-25-/280716129028?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item415bfc3304

Did Golf a lot gave up as biking more fun :)

Have biked for many years but just suffering from ‘new bike syndrome’ as another poster said. Been 8 years since I last had a new bike but the ‘hopper got battered. Sure this will end up battered too, just miffed my pearlescent Boardman is already marked boohoo lol!

Cheers all, feel less bothered already to be fair – looking forward to going Cannock again though, was better than I expected as more of a Peaks trail kinda guy normally, will definitely go back sometime for another blast :D

Considering going Fineshade/Wakerley on Saturday – is it any good?

It will vary according to fork, weight of rider etc.

I’d suggest doing it the opposite way around too. Put a cable tie on your fork (if its not got an O ring) and go ride on it. If your not using most of its travel then you have too much pressure in the fork (you shouldn’t be bottoming out however). As a guide adjust the pressure until you only have about a quarter of the travel left unused.

My gut feel was that they might be too warm so thanks for your feedback. Looks like a Gore for on bike then. Don’t suppose anyone’s got one for sale in a medium!?

Don’t be vain, just go with if it’s the right bike. Sure Halfords can be poor but nothing a set of allen keys can’t sort out.

Why do you want someone to try and stop you? Nothing wrong with Carrera bikes, hard to beat for the money.
