Sounds like it could be a reasonable buy then to keep to hand for when I’m on my travels.

Can any staff from Singletrack confirm if there are anymore coming into stock soon for the £10 deal?

this goes onto the waist belt strap http://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/Belt-Pouch.html

Just a thought, how big is this pouch as there are no dimensions detailed on the website? Doesn’t need to be big, just sizeable enough to get an energy bar or 2 in.

Thank you all for your recommendations, much appreciated and some good options. I’m going to go with Wingnut belt pouch as waterproof and lightweight, cheers singletracksurfer :)

Take a look at the Boardman HT Comp which is £750 rrp, they always do deals on them (got mine for £540). I bought one myself, an upgrade from my 2004 Rockhopper and I love it. Reasonably light and good looking frame, decent 120mm air fork which provides good damping on technical stuff, and components all decent too (think they are Ritchey made although Boardman branded) :)

xiphon – how do the 2 different options compare you mention? Are spd’s better?

robhenry85 – whilst that is a decent deal, I’ve found the M530 pedals for £28 so would still be cheaper to go this route I think

rootes01 looks the same as the Edge 200 by looks of it. Assume it only beeps at you when heading the wrong way and not everytime your 20 yards away from route heading the right direction?

I’ve been looking at the Edge 200 myself. I know the navigation is basic but how does it perform in reality? Is it a waste of time or work reasonably well?

if it is like the 500 – very good i did the whole of Lejog using the course function to follow

Anyone know if the Edge 200 and 500 mapping functionality is the same?

That’s an ace route to be recommending after all the snow, rain and the fact that the peak is now swimming in mud.

Has that trail not had enough of a battering over the last few years (as its now 10 foot wider than what it used to be and so much more boggy), that people might actually avoid it till it is in a good condition (dry!) and actually worth riding.

There are so, so many people in Sheffield who wouldn’t even dream of riding near Whinstone Lee Tor in the winter or after weather like we’ve had in the last few days!

Unfortunately living over 2 hrs drive south from the area I don’t have the benefit of local weather knowledge so I can’t comment on current conditions.

What I can say is that the first time I went to the Peaks I was recommended this route by the lads at 18 Bikes and it thoroughly entertained me from the testing climbs up Whinstone Lee Tor, to the awesome descents from WLT down to Cutthroat Bridge and Haggs Farm section etc.

Sure there are probably many more classic rides for consideration, all I know is that for an all round bit of everything the Dark Peak can offer I rated this classic route highly, so still worth doing when conditions improve IMO.

I’m sure there’s plenty of riders on here with pics of backpack contents much like the bivi boys

Having owned both a WTB Rocket V and Charge spoon saddles on my previous bike, the saddle on my new bike is much more comfy than both of those. Its a Boardman own brand saddle which is v similar to a Fizik Gobi in shape.

I’ve been really impressed with how comfy it is, particularly on longer ‘pedally’ rides and would recommend it to anyone if you can manage to get hold of one somewhere.

Cheers for reply, thought they looked more rigid, will go for one of their Airlok drybags instead which look more like Exped ones.

Cheers for heads up on Fork Juice, was going to buy some Brunox Deo which is £6 for 100ml spray, so £8 for 400ml of Fork Juice is a bargain :)

Maybe a bit too small, think I prefer look of Honey Stove which might even cook a burger or couple of sausages over it :)

Anyone tried one of these Pocket Stoves? Looks a nice bit of kit. It’s between this and White Box Stove but like idea of being able to make a small fire with Pocket Stove http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/product571.asp?PageID=118

Was looking at the Honey Stove (anyone got one for sale contact details in profile)

The trouble with any synthetic bag costing £50 is … you’ll either be cold (unless it’s a very mild night) or you’ll be burdened with weight/pack size.*In all honesty I’d save a bit more cash and pay AlpKit a visit.

Would love to but its a big step up to £150 :(

Tesco seem to no longer do their down bag either

Seems like the Dirtbag is the better option of the 2, just concerned a little that its not ideal size for carrying in a backpack but guess you can’t have everything! Decisions decisions :)

I’d like to try and keep the budget under £50. These were 2 that caught my eye….

    Alpkit Base 180 £30
    http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16532&category_id=289

    Alpkit Dirtbag £40
    http://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16533&category_id=289

The Base 180 packs down smaller but doesn’t look that thick, anyone able to comment on comfort on these?

Dirtbag looks nice and thick but would be more of a challenge fitting in a pack hmm!

Ok so the bottle of Squirt I ordered arrived today (great service) and I have a couple of questions for you Squirt users, do you just re-apply after every ride/bike wash like a normal lube? I guess the main benefit of this lube is that you don’t need to degrease the chain as often as other lubes, is that right?
