I highly recommend Coopers Camp site in Edale. Decent cafe on site serving breakfasts and lunches and a good local pub opposite for your evening meals (assuming your not cooking that is). Facilities also fine. Take a few 20p coins for the showers. Prime place for some biking up Mam Tor, Jacobs Ladder etc without having to get in the car.

Thats a good price you got on the Day One tobyho. Do you find you use it a lot this time of year?

I was told by a doctor friend that steam and pholcodine are the best cures for coughs – but that’s for dry ones I think

Hi all, thanks for the advice and feedback. I managed to find a D3100 vs. D3200 comparison on the What Digital Camera site so will have a good read through that and see if the features and advantages of the more expensive model are worth the extra outlay or not. :)

Dibbs – what issues did you find with the d3100 then?

d45yth – does a IS lens provide a significant benefit then?

    Thanks.

Harlestone firs! I’d forgotten about that place. Used to love it when I lived near

It’s still decent now – for a short blast! Best routes are off the main paths :)

Have you been to Northampton biking before? I live here and have biked a number of routes with the local MTB club – It’s not great and not a patch on Peaks etc. Many of these routes remain muddy and boggy throughout the year as they don’t drain as well as Peaks etc. Many of the riders run tyres like Bonty Mud X and Nobby Nics. I find the Mud X perfect for a majority of the year.

Is the shutter speed on a bridge style camera as quick as a DSLR?

    nickswolves

Open to suggestions molgrips so your points are valid. In response, I’ve not tried a DSLR in low light to be fair and also not considered a bridge camera.

Do bridge camera’s match the speed of a DSLR then? What bridge cameras would fit in my price bracket second hand?

    Thanks

    Why get a DSLR?

The shutter speed on every compact I have owned, including the Sony HX7 I have now, often isn’t quick enough to start up and capture pics of my children for starters. I’d also like the benefits of better low light and action photo performance of a DSLR.

Thanks for all your replies :)

    There seems so much choice;

Sony A200 – good but no live view
Sony A300 – as above with live view
    Nikon D80
    Canon (various)
    Pentax 100d – 6.1MP – that right?

I think I need to find a second hand camera shop and have a browse and play with a few – that might help me distinguish between them :)

Ok geordiemick thanks for clarifying that – I’ll have a google on it.

I’ve always liked Nikon for compacts – having said that my latest is a Sony HX7 :)

That’s a great price I’m sure Mick, but budget I have needs to include a lens I’m afraid. A bargain for someone though I’m sure :)

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. I’m going to give the Sopranos a go first as they’re going on ebay nice and cheap and it looks the kind of drama I think I’d like.

Sorry jambon but that’s b*****ks – for the money as an all rounder they are still decent :) Yes there’s better tyres out there but most are more expensive. Specialized tyres are good for the money too = purgatory controls etc.

Fire XC Pro’s are still a decent all round use tyre – they’re just not as ‘fashionable’ as some of the others

One of my best purchases ever is the On-One merino base layer top I bought. Cost me £20 I think and it’s been awesome. I use it for Biking, running and football and best of all it doesn’t pong so you can use it a few times before it needs a wash.
