    pray for dry weather.

Im doing pairs too…. i would recommend having all your kit/food/bottles organised as you won’t get much of break in-between laps… i think lap times will be around the 35min mark !

Most importantly… ENJOY it … its great event

    Agree with Freeagent

“Chislehurst, Bromley Common, Petts wood, Farnborough, Keston are the nicer parts of the Borough, New Addington/Biggin Hill not so much “

Locks bottom is also a good spot as is Crofton.

I grew up round Farnborough village way .. very nice and easy access to Orpington station with quick links into London.

From a riding perspective you have heaps of great road routes out into Kent and Surrey but MTB is slightly limited depending on your stance about riding on footpaths (still better than most London boroughs IMO)

    @lardman

I would say the mileage split either side felt about right, nice to get to the hostel knowing the next day would be slightly shorter (Plus getting the train home etc) Day one climbs are shorter and sharper. Day two climbs are bigger and longer.. but less of them !!

Day 1 Got a bit lost at one point so prob an extra 8km & 125m https://www.strava.com/activities/598367243

    Day 2 https://www.strava.com/activities/599362545

    Yes Winchester to Eastbourne …

We stayed in the YHA at Truleigh hill… about 60miles into the 100 mile route.

Would recommend it but definitely book dinner in advance, Some poor guys turned up at 8pm to be told no more dinner and there is nothing else around it !

Avoid Gold Car as I’ve seen hour+ long queues to pick up keys on my last three visits !

GR221 Trail is pretty good fun and plenty to explore.

Also some great routes around Bunyola (But a 45 min drive from Pollenca)

Best i rode was from Soller to Port De Sa Calobra along the coast … you can also get the boat from Soller and ride back from Sa Calobra.

Happy with Evoc bag, easy to cart round an airport and can pack bike + week of riding kit inside so no need for extra case.

Had a nightmare using a cardboard box one year when easy jet left it out in the rain before loading ….

There is one here straight into the junction. and a car using it on the aerial picture. https://goo.gl/maps/jPTNvzHgyQ82

    Same as that.

Interesting point BigJohn, i was reluctant to pay the £300+ fee when i have an outside chance of gaining permission but if the council would send someone to have an initial look that could be a goer.

My other option is to apply to move the lights .. $$$$$$$$$$$

Over the years I’ve done the full Southern XC series and also some years just one or two…. or none

A big thing for me is travel time vs race time … driving 4 hrs to race 1.5 hours is the wrong ratio… as others have said if it was a 6hr / 12hr / 24hr the driving to riding ratio gets much better

One thing that stands out to me is the popularity of cyclocross and Crit racing in the south east …. always busy and always the same faces week in week out … the racing is extremely accessible, local and often better value than an MTB race.

It would be very interesting to do rider postcode analysis on races / venues !!

They have two cottages each sleeping 6 plus sofa beds and a B&B .. im sure they could accommodate all of you. Best thing you can ride right on the trails.
