Where are you, I might be interested if the price is right?

-Knowing the manufacturer of your bike’s brakes/mech/shifters/without looking. Even worse if you know the model!

I reckon I could name the make and model of every component on my bike, but it was a custom build.

IME a poor diet lead to more boils. Do you eat plenty of fruit and veg and avoid fatty foods?

A moderation system is no good without threading, otherwise you have to re-read sections of the thread to make sure you haven’t missed a salient point. Usenet has it just about right – apart from the people 🙂

Oooh, Half a percent off the RRP at Charlie’s, who can resist? Now, what to spend that 9p on?

I use a Son hub, Leds are so efficient you can use the one designed for smaller wheels which is a bit lighter. I made my own light out of a miniature flask.

My wife tie-dyed her wedding dress and wore it to Glastonbury.

My suit cost 10 (yes ten) times as much as her dress.

Her jewellery cost 4 times as much as my suit

10 years later and the suit and the jewellery get worn a couple of times a year. The dress went on ebay.

Why do people post stuff like

I don’t know whether I missed discussion about this thing but…

and not use the Search Forum feature at the top of every page?

Sounds great martinxyz, but you’ll get done for assault in this crazy world.

In my experience (three boys) they will ride anything available if they want to ride. A half decent jump bike has plenty of street cred with the ‘kidz’ so that’s not why he’s not riding it.

How about buying the frame but getting him to build it up with as little help a possible from you. That way, if he wants to ride it, he’ll have a personal investment so may use it more or look after it better.

If you give him his deposit back there was no point taking it in the first place unless you mis-described the bike.

You’ll get bugger all for it and then when you change your mind you’ll spend a small fortune replacing it. If you’re not absolutely strapped for cash at the moment, just pack it away somewhere.

    This.

A local landowner is applying to the land registry for the freehold of all common land in the parish (which he claims includes our drive, but that’s another story). This land has been in the care of the parish council since 1974 and any documents he may have which prove his ownership are at least three generations old.

As said before, assume it’s NOT yours, would you still buy the house?

In my opinion although the risk is small the implications are so huge that it’s just not worth the risk.

You get this on the family trail in the Forest of Dean. I know it’s petty but it really annoys me. There’s thousands of miles of footpath and they walk on the bloody cycle trail.

Also I got chased by an uncontrolled dog on the Verderers trail last week. It’s owners were very apologetic, but they should keep it under better control.

    Rant over.

50% in year one, then 10% every year after that.

I assume you mean 10% of the remaining value each year otherwise a bike would be worth nothing after 5 years which clearly isn’t the case.

Make sure it’s not an electrical problem by checking that the valve is getting power when the timer/thermostat/controller switches.

This is one of the toughest courses on the enduro calandar.

    This bit worries me slightly.

@munrobiker Whilst everything you say is true, it doesn’t take into account the fact that ‘we’ take much bigger risks and yet don’t wear a helmet. Many more lives would be saved if car drivers were made to wear helmets than if cyclists were made to, but the public perception is that cycling is more dangerous.

In my experience, creak locations are difficult to identify. Check it’s not the front skewer.

The age old adage of “cheap, light, actually works, pick two” never applied more than with chain devices.

That’s good advice mboy but it does at least suggest I could get light and actually works together which rules out most of the fully enclosed devices.

Still waiting for Jumble to come back to the thread.

@tinsy – I’ve always hated front mechs, nasty clunky things, and now there are plenty of cogs at the back it’s safe, for me, to have just one up front. I use Rohloff on my other bike largely for the same reason.

    Nicknoxx

Jumble – Yes please, I’ve just checked and my frame is 35mm which is the same as the Rohloff device without any reduction sleeves. Let me know how much post is and how you’d like me to pay. email in profile. Thanks

Edit. Can you check yours is 35mm before posting?

It’s very unlikely that anybody who is really good at their job will be

Availability lunch times and early evenings
No long waits for an appointment

Unless their industry is flooded with above average people.

She has suggested that I and the bike move out!

    Another tale of success here:-
I injured my shoulder in a kite-buggy accident and didn’t do anything about it. Several months later, still in pain I went to a physio who specialised in sports injuries. She gave me some exercises/stretches to do and within a few weeks most of the pain was gone. Whenever it re-occurs I just do the exercises again.

I’ve seen a lefty on an RC where the weight saving seems to make sense but on a Rufty Tufty(TM) bike I’m not sure it’s such a good idea.

I think Nicolais look great in smaller sizes and brighter colors. When large and dalk they look a bit crap IMO.

It’s REALLY not about the looks. If ever there was a bike that put function before form, the Nicolai is it.

It is Ray’s old bike but he’s no lardier than me so it will continue to get a battering!
