If you want a chain and lock that isn’t going to get cut, get an Almax. However it’s far too heavy to carry with you.

I spoke to Robin Mather yesterday. He’s still working through a backlog and won’t be taking orders for quite a while yet.

Big thanks to knottie, sharkie, charlie and all for dfv-ing a great day out. Everything went perfectly (apart from the punctures and my crash).

    Brilliant

Sorry if this is a stupid question but there’s so many threads I’m not sure I’ve read them all, will we be having lunch anywhere near the carpark or are we lugging food round with us?

Oh and count me in to the wuss group.

    Thanks

If I wanted to come down the night before and stay in my van, is there somewhere suitable nearby? Would staying in the carpark overnight be possible?

I can’t update my Twitter profile pic and I’m not the only one. This is the official answer from Twitter:-

Update: we’re still having problems with uploading profile pictures. This is happening across multiple browsers with multiple file types. We’re aware of this issue and working on fixing it. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

what ever happened to tan sidewalls?

I’ve just bought a new pair of Panaracer paselas for my Mercian with tan sidewalls

I doubt a plumbers torch would get hot enough. You can get MAPP cylinders for the more professional ones which might do it. I’d use an angle grinder.

Saeco make the ultimate in bean to cup machines. Not cheap. We bought ours in Germany off t’internet but Saeco uk have honoured the 2yr guarantee.

The Incanto range is better than the Odea type

    Saeco is owned by Gaggia

Don’t you just hate it when you make a spelling mistake in the title and you don’t notice it until after the 15 minute edit period is up?

One of our cats went missing and long after we’d given up, moved house, we found him at the side of the road 4 miles from (old) home, nine months later.

Six months go by and he goes missing again. This time he came back on his own after three months.

Find an estate gent who will put your house on rightmove and field calls but that’s all. Cost me £500 but that sold the house and was much cheaper than any other agent.

Ok ok I won’t touch it.

Now, where can I get 27″ tubes and tyres?

Mercian say they could widen the stays ( even if that meant replacing the bridges) but I’m leaning more towards just putting new tyres on it and riding the thing.

    Thanks for all opinions.

I did wonder whether it would be sacrilege to bastardise it but I was just about to build an Alfine Roadat because I really want a bike for winter training with full mudguards and I’d prefer an upright riding position.

It’s a fairly low end Mercian not a King or anything really special. What’s it worth?

I’m using the same one as Lanesra and its very good, but not clear if you’re after one that is a normal pump/c02 can as well.

No, I want just a CO2 pump as I want to fit it into a 125mm saddle bag. Has anyone tried one of these?

I read recently that some councils spend more on compensation than on upkeep. This is clearly a mad situation and avoiding the American litigious culture is surely a ‘Good Thing’

The fires are within 20 miles of my Brother and his family. Visibility is down to 200yds. The air is full of smoke. We’re all rather worried to say the least.

Every newsgroup has it’s own resident nutter:-

    uk.rec.Motorcycles has Des

uk.d-i-y used to have The Natural Philosopher but I think he’s morphed since I was there last

uk.rec.sheds has some who bangs on about M15 persecution (sounds familiar)

If you’ve never tried a newsgroup here’s an American one that might interest you:-
    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/alt.mountain-bike/topics?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&pli=1

This is a fairly low traffic group so you can see how it works. However many of the (significant) advantages of a newsgroup can only really be gained by using a newsreader. I use Thunderbird but many others are available.

Try it, you might like it

There are loads of really good newsgroups:-
    UKRM (A bit ‘robust’)
    UK.rec.sheds (the shedde)
    uk.d-i-y
    to name but three

A decent provider will filter out most if not all spam
Both my ISPs (Plusnet and Zen) provide free Usenet
There are other good free usenet feeds and for a measly £12/yr an excellent service from the Germans.
In my experience there are no more idiots in newsgroups than anywhere else.
Avoid binary groups and there’s no pron

    What’s not to like?

Is threaded view available in the new forum?

It seems to me that forums in general are nowhere as easy to read as usenet groups which are better for the following reasons:-

Threads with unread posts are easily identified
It’s easy to ignore or watch threads
    Individuals can be killfiled
    Threaded view rocks
Filters can be created from messages to customise the experience
Can be read from a web browser via Google Groups
    etc etc etc

    Disadvantages:-
Binary posts not usually acceptable which means pictures don’t appear in-line but have to be linked.

So why not start a uk.rec.singletrack group and all move there?

I’d delete the old drivers then search for wacom (and Wacom) as it has been known to leave a few files behind. Remove them all. Then reinstall the latest drivers.

Years ago when I was studying mechanical engineering at university, I was stold that there was theory that drilled brakes were worse in the wet because water got into the holes and was draggged on onto the disc as the pad went past. Your mileage may vary or wibble flip doo as they say on ukrm
