I've installed Ecowater softeners in two properties and I'd do it again. There are two basic types, timed recharge and two cylinder jobs that recharge one while the other is working. The imed ones are cheaper and I'v not had a problem. The worst that can happen is that some unsoftened water gets into the system. You're supposed to have an unsotened drinking water tap in the kitchen because of the salt content (important for babies) but it doesn't tast salty and we often drank it anyway.

Life is too short to proofread.

It is Bikelab. And that's my new bike, but the wheels are Clive's. I asked him but he ignored that bit of my email.

Hate forums like that – having to click and load to follow a conversation through. quoting is easier

In other places it's possible to chose nested or flat so you can see the posts the way you prefer.

See, my original comment is harder to get in the right place with quoting.

Another vote for media monkey – well worth persevering with; deals properly with tags, has extensions which make it even more powerful including "Regexp Find and Replace" which is brilliant for dealing with duplicates. Copes well with loads of formats that iTunes won't play, syncs to ipods, good forum for help. I've got about 140Gb of music and it just works, buy the posh version

They also said that it would only be good for "leisure" riding as the power from two people cranking hard on an offroad tandem would make the belt slip.

Surely only the rider at the front puts any load on the timing chain/belt

This is the drawing of my dropout
    Lynskeys comment was:-

We will not be able to warrant this frame against any breakage on the dropout when adding the split drive-side bolted stay for carbon belt drive. Because of the design and size of the dropout, there will ultimately be too much torque and stress on the single weld specifically at the chain stay on the drive side. And with our experience an eccentric bb doesn’t allow enough adjustment to get the proper belt tension as specified by Gates Carbon – that is the reason for a slider style drop-out allowing 7.5 mm of tension adjustment.

That's very interesting, Nicknoxx, particularly given that on this MTBR thread you can see a Pro29 specced with a belt drive!

I suspect they didn't want to change the design as I only introduced the idea of a belt quite late on (see below)

How's your delivery coming along? I am having a Ridgeline 29 tweaked to take Rohloff neatly, adjusting cable guides and suchlike. Quoted 7-8 weeks, 15 weeks later and still no sign of a frame… uber-relaxed customer service, i.e. lacking in detail.

My first contact with Lynskey was in January it took until the end of May to get a final drawing with only three revisions (I'd supplied quite a detailed drawing initially) It's now in production. I told them right at the beginning that my 50th birthday was at the end of July and it had better be ready by then. Nice guys and quite helpful but they're too busy to communicate effectively in my opinion.

The rule of thumb is, the smaller the bit, the faster the speed but you may need some lubrication to keep the temperature of the drill down. Engine oil or 3 in 1 is better than water if you haven't got the proper stuff.

I spoke to him a few months ago. His website said he wasn't taking any orders but he said that he would consider putting people on his (very long) waiting list. He didn't say what criteria he'd use to decide who went on the list but I got the impression he had to be excited about what you wanted him to build. He replied to all my emails but didn't always do it immediately.

Use drill bits with a left hand thread, running the drill backwards obviously. Or you could try a screw extractor depending on the size:-

1-2mm drill bit are very fragile no matter what the make

I'm having a mtb touring frame made by Lynskey at the moment for a Rohloff hub. It has unusual dropouts so that I can fit disk brakes as well as both mudguards and a rack. Lynskey 'refused' to fit a split dropout for belt drive saying they would not be able to warranty the weld on the chainside dropout/chainstay.

Cutting ti bolts is a proper chore! Only did that once!

Put two nuts on the bolt and tighten together.
Hold nuts in a vice (fnarr)
Cut off unnecessary bit with an angle grinder
    file end to remove burr
    remove nuts

    5 mins max

Yes you can. The stay is a tube so no holes.

    Edit
Don't blame me if it doesn't work 🙂

As far as I understand it, Aluminium can be welded successfully BUT it has to be heat treated afterwards otherwise it may fracture later. Exactly how it's treated depends on the type of alloy.

It might not fit your bike. 'Standard' ebb is 54mm and Niner ebb is 55mm (I think, check size before you buy)

Surely it all depends on what you're employed to do.
If you're on piece rate then the speed you go is up to you.
If you're paid by the hour then you will probably be expected to commit to a full day.
If you're self employed you have to work all the time!

    This is completely crazy:

Post Ofice costs will increase:- No vehicle (hybrid or otherwise) can be as cheap to buy or as cheap to run as a bicycle.
The health of the workers will deteriorate
There will be an increase in CO2 emissions
There will be an increase in danger to other cyclists due to increased traffic.
    Congestion will get worse.

Mad, I tell you, completely mad.

I've been there and got the T shirt.

I bought an SV650 after passing my test and for at least a year it will be all you'll need. Will out accelerate a Ferrari up to about 70 and can easily reach over 120 mph. Will corner better than you for quite a while.

Commuting by bike won't save you any money, nor will it save you much time when you include changing into and out of bike kit. In the winter a journey of about 40 mins will be the most you can comfortably do without getting really cold.

You WILL have an accident. Hopefully it will be small and you won't get hurt. By a bike without a faring as they're expensive to replace.

BUT it is fantastic fun, and I can thoroughly recommend it.

    WEAR EAR PLUGS

PS my SV650 is for sale soon:- 2001, tatty, cheap, about to be MOT'd, near Bath
