Using an eSIM To Stay Connected In Remote Locations While Hiking Or Biking

That doesn’t look anywhere near as bad as some pics I’ve seen, especially with fox forks, and the -ve isn’t caked in it.
SRAM actually recommend applying a generous amount of grease using a dowel for the inside of air spring exactly where the transfer port is. Blocked transfer port = internet snake oil?
As I say mine had hardly any grease.
nicknamelessFree MemberJust done them. Not massively bad. Seemed to be more oil in air spring side though. Not much grease on wiper seals and not a great deal in the air spring – was expecting a big load of the stuff but there was less rather than more. I have 3/4 rides on them so I’ll see if they feel any better tomorrow.
nicknamelessFree MemberThe mrs has just got a liv intrigue. She’s been riding a non women’s specific bike for the last 3 years.
Looked at this and it only seemed to be Liv who were really making bikes differently, as opposed to rebranding generic frames.
This includes a lighter rider specific shock tune (fork still needs tuning for correct weight if you are as light as my mrs) as well as subtle geometry differences.
The suspension is obviously going to make a difference but that applies regardless of gender and if you are outside the designed weight range this is the case regardless of whether you are a man or woman.
Ended up going for the Liv as it was a heavily discounted 2019 with excellent spec inc. carbon frame, wheels, fox 36 etc. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been bothered.
Fits luverly, but that was based on geometry of old bike which was not women’s specific and knowing broadly what would fit and work.
Only concern is resale as you are naturally narrowing market – but it was a great spec at a very good price.
nicknamelessFree MemberCarp recent experience here too via e-bay. Item showing in stock – no item shipped and no communication in nearly two weeks. Phone up to be told it had been cancelled as not actually in stock – was actually a lie – they cancelled the order after I got off the phone, as the e-mail then came through. Refund processed quickly.
Easier to cut slack if they communicate with you and don’t appear to lie.
nicknamelessFree MemberMe and the mrs are having a go. On day 7 but have practiced several days rather than go straight through the lessons. Progress is slow but definite. The mrs had told me she couldn’t ever see herself managing it and has put in several 3/4 pedals in and is consistently getting the front wheel lift better than before. Will take a lot of time and practice but determined to crack it.
nicknamelessFree MemberI disagree with the above. You can advance the pistons with the wheel out by pumping the lever and get the starting point closer to the rotor to reduce throw in the lever. It’s a fine line between rubbing brakes and less lever throw and you have to play around with it. This is with guide rs BTW but sure it will apply to level Ts. I’ve ridden them on a hire bike and they had very little lever throw.
nicknamelessFree MemberIs this just cheap bikes and parts.
Just taken delivery of my new full sus and was going to keep the bird 120 LT it augments but if now is a good time to sell I may reconsider.
Are we talking people buying cheap s***e, or are decent bikes selling too?
nicknamelessFree MemberTry this thread
Suggests charger 2.1 compression damping very soft therefore not suitable for heavier riders. Sortable with tune.
Annoyed as waiting on a bike with new pike ultimate and so I may be in the same position shortly.
nicknamelessFree MemberYou don’t actually say what PSI you are running. Max to get 30% sag??!!!
I say forget sag altogether. I can get 5-10% variation in fork sag in successive attempts to measure it.
Check how many tokens fitted first. Try recommended air pressure with rebound test as described above. Go from there.
I’m 90 odd kilos on an old pike. If I was running max PSI it would feel like a rigid fork!
nicknamelessFree Member@tuomoe Many thanks – that is very helpful. Do you have an issue with the heel rub on the stays that some of the reviews mention?
nicknamelessFree MemberWill test ride Aether9 if it comes out soonish but also interested in the Commencal if anyone has any direct experience?
nicknamelessFree MemberLet’s hope this this thing doesn’t mutate. Spanish Flu anyone? You would think that 100 years later we’d have been much better prepared, collectively and individually.
Staggered by some of the responses in this thread. Presumably those going on group rides haven’t seen the news in the last few weeks?
nicknamelessFree MemberCommute to brum would need to have some priority. I work at a uni in quite a specialist area and so whilst jobs may come up at some point in Leeds / Sheffield / York etc., in the short term there is no guarantee.
Sounds like Sheffield or surrounds?
nicknamelessFree MemberMany thanks for the ideas.
@tuboflard job is near the centre, within walking distance of the station.nicknamelessFree MemberIf you are talking about code rsc then I found the contact adjuster dials stiff when I first had the brakes. They have freed up over time.
Fantastic brakes if a little fiddly to get right as the pads wear beyond the point where the adjusters are useful (need to advance pistons with wheel out).
nicknamelessFree MemberMany thanks.
Had to take apart to get at the tag under the battery. Now all working fine. PITA.
nicknamelessFree Member@cb200 – I got 9 which were too small so would take the 9.5s off you?
nicknamelessFree MemberDo freerider pros size up smaller than freerider? Have 2 pairs of 5-10s in uk 9 and these feel very snug indeed. Will they wear in?
nicknamelessFree MemberSorry if being dim but don’t understand how this gets to £41. 30% off £85 does not get to £41???
nicknamelessFree MemberDo these come as 170 out of the box? Anyone know if spacers are included to reduce travel?
@sparkyrhino which pike are you comparing them to? I have a 2017 with the original charger damper. Have added debonair spring but the small bump is still atrocious. Would the DVO be a significant improvement with the OTT in that respect would you say?nicknamelessFree MemberIsn’t that an e-bike?
If so the pink dmr deathgrips I’ve got on my analogue bike would suit it perfectly.
nicknamelessFree MemberMine’s useless – nearly killed me on Friday.
Wait a minute that might be my utter total lack of talent.
Mine’s ace – saved my bacon on Friday. Would have died on another bike.
Owner for 2 and a half years. Well built, reliable, great service from Bird always.
nicknamelessFree MemberI’ve got RSC codes on a trail bike and the speed I go I could probably put a foot out and stop. Who cares, awesome brakes with great modulation. Levers are much nicer with the other code / guide versions and the contact adjust works really well to allow you to keep consistent bite point through the pad wear.
If you’ve got the moolah you’ll love em.
nicknamelessFree MemberWife takes 7 year old on family trail whilst you take 11 year old on verderers.
Can always turn back on family trail if distance becoming too much.
I wouldn’t take a trailer on very inexperienced 7 year old on some of the verderers. Not worth putting them off it for good.
Or just enjoy the family trail for what it is? Have been round a couple of times with little uns and it’s still cycling lol.
nicknamelessFree MemberMy two penneth.
None of those really match minatour for kid friendliness;
Brechfa green / blue – quite a lot of climbing in comparison, even a lot on the green. It is bloody good fun though. I think the blue descent after the big climb is awesome but not necessarily something I’d take the young uns on unless they were proficient.
Blue scar – again quite a lot of climbing in comparison to minatour. And most of it in a big winch fashion.
Llandegla blue – wouldn’t bother.
Verderer’s – fantastic track regardless of ability. Comment about last descent is true. If they are reasonably proficient you can cut out the last descent and track round to launch pad (orange graded) which is massive fun but not too gnar at all (designed for 4 wheelers). Ensure they can control speed before taking them on this though.
nicknamelessFree Member@gnusmas no problems. I too have the 120LT in graphite. Love the bike. We got the reconditioned kickr core – it was £599 so a little pricey. Happy to keep you updated on my progress with trainer road.
Were the sessions useful? Everyone’s GP is different – some helpful, some not. Have you got a helpful one who you could talk to about it?
Apologies in advance if the below is all old hat, or not of use, or not wanted at this time.

nicknamelessFree MemberHave just invested in a kickr core and trainerroad. Wanting to get fitter in my late 40s and complete a ride thinking I am not about to have a coronary!
I think you have an aeris 120, as do I and the mrs. Happy to send you a pick of our set up if that helps or let you know about experience of set up etc.
Maybe think what you are wanting to get out of this. We’ve decided on trainerroad to try out a structured fitness focused programme. I know some of the other platforms are not as focused on following a specific plan. It could be a good focus for you and perhaps a target or motivation such as measuring fitness gains might help a little with the eating i.e. all tie together.
Finally, hope you are getting some other support or have had some support after what you have been through recently? No idea what has been offered to you or what you have accessed but there are sources of support out there.
Anything I can help with further just let me know.
Still wish I’d got the Blue aeris!!!
nicknamelessFree MemberLooking for one of these for myself and the mrs to use our respective mtbs on.
Can someone cleverer than I let me know the best solution to swapping between a bike with SRAM GX 11-speed and SRAM GX-Eagle 12-speed on one of these things?
Cheers.
nicknamelessFree Memberp.s. the English vs Scottish (or vice-versa) stuff in this thread is categorically nonsense, but undoubtedly will continue ad infinitum lol.
nicknamelessFree MemberNot going to comment on the issues. Just wanted to say that if anyone has ever had any dealings with Ben and co at Bird Bikes they will know that they would be the last people and bike company to ever intentionally do something that might cause issues or offence. They are the one of the best companies I have ever encountered and I am not just talking about in the MTB world.
nicknamelessFree MemberSure it’s been covered but there is no “should”.
Hydrate well before if possible, which will mean different things for different folk. I drink a couple of pints of water a couple of hours before a ride and you will pee out the excess and know you are hydrated (colour of pee).
Then simply drink to thirst. I am a big sweaty beast and so that probably means more fluid during the ride than other people.
That is essentially what I understand the latest science to say.
nicknamelessFree MemberHave ordered from them 3 or 4 times. All shipped within a day or two and have even received things a day after shipping via DHL who are a country mile ahead of any of the other couriers.
nicknamelessFree MemberYes very reliable and cheap on certain things. Come from Germany via DHL. Order away.
nicknamelessFree MemberBought the camelbak repack LR. All is good other than a little bit of lower back ache from it vs my osprey backpack. Am I wearing it too low I wonder?
nicknamelessFree MemberCan’t link on this beep forum – search Avid Disc Brake Mount Adapter, Post to Post +20mm Adapter, 180mm Rotor, Ti Bolts on ebay lol
