You can take it on an auto, and go out and ride a geared bike.

If you pass on an auto and later decide you want a geared bike, you can do an optional geared conversion course to get the hang of gears/clutch etc – few hours will be about £50 or so – or you can just practise yourself, but it’s a bit dangerous on the road.

I found that my CBT instructors tried to push everyone through on scooters, because it’s easier, and they can get back to sipping tea earlier 🙂

If you want a geared bike, make sure they put the effort in. The quality of instructors at the CBT seems to vary a lot.

The PCX 125 is probably one of the best 125 scooters on the market, but it’s nothing like a big bike.

You twist the throttle on it, and it builds up steadily. You do the same on a 500, and it’s there in an instant.

Also, not sure what your budget is, but the PCX keeps its value well, so not sure how little you can pick one up for.

I’m looking to sell mine via a dealer probably (for part-ex), it’s under a year old, and I’m almost getting the price I paid for it new 🙂

PCX – anything below 40mph and it’s brilliant and nippy. Tops out at about 60-65mph too. I can’t really say anything bad about it, it’s just that im part way through my DAS course, and want a bigger bike for longer trips / motorways etc.

I’ll probably take a live German satellite feed and use the R5 commentary

This is what I’d do, but I don’t think our block of flats is allowed a sky dish, I’m in the stuff em category.

    I’m dead on 13stone now, my ideal weight – that’s 2 stone gone! 🙂

I don’t follow it strictly, i.e. I have sugar, milk, fruit a few choc bars here ‘n there. I don’t go mad on the cheat-day because it tends to make me feel like crap 🙂

Here’s some easy meals I have:

    1) Chicken wrapped in bacon

Wrap a chicken breast in bacon and sprinkle some green chilli in there. Drizzle a little oil on top.

Chuck it in the oven till the bacon goes all crispy.

Meanwhile whack some diced carrot/celery/onion/garlic into a pan with a little oil. Cook it up, add in a little chicken stock, along with some lentils.

    Eat it all 🙂

    2) Chilli with lentils

Cook some red peppers/onions/garlic in a pan. Add in 1 tablespoon of paprika, chilli powder, cumin powder, and a splash of water.

Cook up the beef and transfer it to the other pan, pour in some beef stock, tomatos, kidney beans and lentils. Add a bit of thyme, oregano and a few bayleaves.

I get about 4 meals out of this one, so it’s one of my favs.

    3) Chorizo stew.

Basically the same as the chilli, but with Chorizo sausage chopped up into thick chunks and just paprika. I’ll also use chickpeas instead of lentils and kidney beans.

I’ll be looking into something similar one day after being diagnosed with osteonecrosis last year, unless I can stop it from getting worse somehow.

There’s lots of people out there who’ve had THR who carry on cycling, although perhaps not mountain biking..but anyway, that gives me some hope 🙂

My uncle started banging on about cyclists after I mentioned I rode my bike to work.

Apparently we all jump red lights and kill old people who are trying to cross. Yeah.

My local highstreet is still stupidly busy on weekends, too busy for my liking so I avoid it most of the time.

It is convenient for me though. Easy to get to by public transport, and has parking for motorbikes so I don’t have to faff about. The shops generally open nice and early, so if I get there before the horde of chavs, it’s still a rather peaceful experience.

The big plus points are a) I can get stuff straight away without waiting and b) I can try stuff on.

These are things the online world can’t ever compete with.

I’m also getting fed up with the online experience lately as more and more companies are using the huge pile of crap that is YODEL.

Do be careful about a 50cc. Did my CBT on one last May (pizza hut delivery style bike) and you do tend to get cars right up your backside, especially if there’s any type of incline.

I got myself a Honda PCX 125, and she is really rather beautiful and perfect for my 10mile commute around London, a tad more expensive though.

I was going to opt for a 2nd hand Gilera Runner, but the kids tend to trash them a lot around these parts, and thief’s love them, plus at 6’2 I’m perhaps too big for one 😀

Also consider luggage space, mpg, and leg room (if your a tall chap).

I also don’t follow it that strictly.

Right now I’m munchin on a couple of pork pies.

I have 2-3 tea/coffee a day with milk and sugar

For breakfast, I have a fruit smoothie (with cereal bits) 2-3 times a week, the other times are hard boiled eggs and spinach.

I’l have a few pints after work once a week.

Cutting out the main white carbs seems to be all that I require, plus I don’t go excessive on my cheat-day, but that’s more because I feel like crap after.

In the past 2 months or so I’ve lost nearly 1.5 stone.

    Happy experimenting 🙂

The fourhourbody has a bit about losing the last few kg as iDave mentions.

Basically quantities get very strict, as do the timings of the meal.

Your meant to eat something like the following every 3 hours (pick an option).

    a) White non-fatty fish, some nuts
    b) Chicken / Turkey, some nuts
    c) Red Meat or fatty fish
    d) 5 Whole eggs
    e) Whey protein, some nuts

Go easy on any oil, i.e. a table spoon.

Any amount of spinach / cruciferous vedge.

Then one cheat meal every 7-10 days.

Sounds utterly horrid to me, so I won’t go this far 🙂

When my Natwest CC was blocked I struggled to get verified when on the phone to the operator person – even though I had my passport, and I was actually IN a Natwest branch with an employee sat next to me telling the operator that it was in fact me, and they can in fact see me.

    Bloody shambles.

I’ve had some similar symptoms described here. I seemed to get flu-like symptoms by just doing light weights. Essentially I’d be ok during the exercise, then I’d be knocked for six a couple of hours after. This was something that I could reproduce, and it wasn’t just muscle aches. It felt like proper flu but would only last a day.

Have you experimented with diet? It’s the one thing you can take control of and do something about.

Both myself and my brother have had some of the symptoms above that have been helped my changing diet.

We’ve both gone towards slow-carb foods (avoid white-carbs/sugar basically). Anyway, don’t like to harp on about diet, but you’ve got nothing to lose, and it’s something you can control without having to go back and forth to doctors.

Got it today on the PC and pretty impressed. I was quite a fan of the 2010 version and this seems a bit better already. The DRS and KERs are fun, and I hear they’ve fixed lots of bugs 🙂

There’s probably still issues, the AI is good, but not perfect. There’s some weird corners (like in 2010) where the AI cars seem to go way too fast, or too slow.

There seems to be quite a bit more detail too with the gfx.

Just got myself one of these, not too shabby and I think it should fit a lappy and work clothes (although maybe not shoes as well).

Comes with a nice yellow rain cover too, plus the air thing helps a bit with a sweaty back.

re water – isn’t it just that your more likely to get dehydrated on a low-carb diet?

Week 2 weigh in this morning..same as last week! still on just under 3 KG from start weight though. Don’t know what happened last week. Only thing i think i did differently was i may have not have drank enough water. Anyone else had similar result..ie, same weight after a week?

Similar to me, but I only have myself to blame.

I lost about 9lbs in 3 weeks, but nothing last week. I do cheat though, and have had tea/coffee with milk throughout the whole period.

Last week maybe I had less water, and more coffee, and more nuts, so that could be why.

I’m also going to experiment with a bit of fruit to see what I can get away with 🙂

+1 fourhourbody/idave style diets work well with little or no exercise.

I’ve managed to get into the 13 stone range for the first time in about 10 years, without really trying hard at all.

scrambled egg/hardboiled eggs with chorizo/bacon and spinach
    chilli-con carne + vedge + lentils
chicken wrapped in bacon + vedge
mackerel + green beans or salad
    chicken salads + mixed beans
    nuts
    water
    grapefruit juice

I do still have fruit/sugar, but avoid white carbs and snacking on bad stuff.

I’m doing the fourhourbody/tim-ferriss diet, which I think is the same as iDave’s.

Lost almost half a stone in 2 weeks, very easy diet to follow as well.

I do find I’m eating more meat mind, and this seems to be putting up the cost of my shopping a fair whack 🙂

It probably doesn’t make much difference.

Some browsers are kinder to memory when you minimize windows (by swapping out to disk), but I imagine they use the same technique for tabbed browsing.

Chrome open tabs as a new process, so I imagine tabs and windows will use similar amout of memory.

For a snappy feeling, I use Chrome with a Flash blocker. This may not be the kindest combination for memory though, but as I said, there’s conflicting benchmarks on the net.

Lastly, if you have free RAM, it’s fine for applications to use it. Generally I see that Chrome has high memory usage, which probably explains why it’s fast, because lots is already loaded in RAM.

    Ditto on the exercise thing.

If you have you’re physical health, use it. I can’t do anything without being in pain of late and it’s bringing me back into my depression years.

Can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve been biking now 🙁

My way of coping is ‘find something you enjoy doing, anything, and do it lots’.
