Don’t worry, by the time you reach 60 H&S will have stopped you from entering a blazing building anyway, so you won’t have to stay fit 😉

Glad they are striking. They do a harder job than most, get shit on more than most and pay tons into their pension scheme (so deserve them).

I used todo inline skating (about 15 years ago). Check out the local parks, lots of ramps were built back in the day, and probably aren’t used now 🙂

    Lots of skateparks still around.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about skating the other day and checking out youtube vids, seeing if my childhood skate hero’s were still around…and lots of them are!

Got this last week – Sensa Romagna via merlincycles – 105 groupset throughout 🙂

Have to say, an awesome finish on the frame, and it’s great to a bike where everything works so smoothly. Only downside is some toe-overlap, which I hear is a common prob, so I’ll just get used to it I guess.

Probably this! Seems like a good spec, and Sensa get decent reviews.

I’m hoping to order a Sensa Romagna Special later today 😀

Similar rules to riding a motorbike, but without the safety net of being able to accelerate out of danger…so where this is most annoying is when you need to change lanes in fast moving traffic.

You will get used to your route and learn where it’s best to change lanes — usually the earlier the better. One tip is to learn the timing of traffic lights, and use them to aid changing lanes (i.e. when traffic is stopped or at its slowest).

Prepare to get shouted at by all forms of motorised vehicles for not paying road tax, and prepare to get enraged by other cyclists being dangerous 🙂

^ I have a Versys 650 as my first bike and still have it 10,000 miles after 🙂

If your a tall chap, then you really need to sit on a few, because some will just feel too small. Something like the versys is perhaps more comfy for taller peeps, and a bit more friendly around town as it’s high up. It’s a great all rounder.

Consider what you want from the bike? Commuting? Town bike? Touring? Track days? If you fancy a bit of touring then you might want something with more luggage options, a bigger fuel tank and more wind protection.

Had a go of a fazer yesterday at ‘wheelie school’…was pretty impressed with them.

I don’t think you will go far wrong with any bike to be honest…fazer, bandit, sv650, hornet, er6…

If it was me, I’d probably go for a hornet 🙂

Honda PCX – just sold mine on ebay for a stupidly low price, oh well 🙁

It’s a perfect scoot for commuting, can’t really fault it.

Mm ta for heads up. I’ll poke my head in as I only live around the corner.

Would be good to see some better branded bikes in there 🙂

Or just grab a full sus frame from ebay and swap it out. I’m looking at some old spesh epics or stumpjumpers which probably suit XC style riding.

Wish the police put them away for good.

Now the NHS is going to have to fix them up, it’ll get dragged through the courts for ages, and they’ll end up in prison (in probably OK conditions), while the country they hate pay for all this.

RIP to the innocent victim that lost his life here.

Since your asking questions about road positioning, you should probably go for a CBT which will cover that. It’s better than nothing, and not that expensive…

Thread seems to have go a bit de-railed – I think most people would agree that filtering at high speed is stupid and risky. The OP said he was filtering at a slow pace – dunno what that is..but on the M25 it’s hardly going to be fast is it 😛

Anyway, hope the OP gets well soon.

    Get a taster session done (www.geton.co.uk), then a CBT + 125 scoot.

Probably the easiest way to get started.

A scoot gives you the luggage capability without needinga topbox or lugging around a rucksack, plus you don’t have to faff about with gears.

London is a little easier to filter with a scoot, but not by much to be honest. I haven’t seen a big difference – there’s very few days in the year when the traffic is so smegged that bigger bikes can’t get through 🙂

Next up think about cost – CBT (and optional full-license) + bike + clothing/helmet + insurance + fuel + servicing.

Oh, and it hurts when you crash..and you probably will at some point – so extra training + full license + spending £££ on helmet/clothing gear is a good idea 🙂

I had an incident last year where I went into the back of a car – was my fault. I gave the driver my details, but he never got back to me. He probably had about £200 worth of damage on the rear of his car, so maybe his insurance sorted it (even though I had no insurance on my side).

I did however end up with a broken wrist ‘n broken frame. :\

In your case it sounds more like the driver was at fault, although they can always say you were following too closely (just re-read what u said though about them just pulling out), so unlikely.

Would be interested to see how they resolve your case here (only reason I’ve joined BC is to protect myself against incidents like this) 🙂

Montane Minimus – cheapish and very cheerful 🙂

I’ve got an old montane atomic d2 which is also rather good, but the velcro cuffs have gone now so I’ll need to stitch on some new ones.

I’m most likely gonna get a minimus as well…

Gonna go out for a few drinks in a couple of hours – no one seems that fussed so it’ll be a few pints then back home for a curry – can’t be arsed with people up in London and packed trains on the way home!

I have a Deuter cross bike one which is great, but I’m looking to get an Alpkit gourdon – which is a lot cheaper and probably better for commuting purposes, as you can just shove stuff in and not worry about the the rain cover..

    Bad:

    1) Spent a year avoiding impact sports due to onset of osteonecrosis in one hip

    2) Got knocked off my push bike twice (well, once was my fault)

    3) Got knocked off my motorbike once

    Good:

    1) Made progress with that ole iDave based diet, and am now at my best weight ever

    2) Took up indoor climbing and now adding that to a list of cool hobbies

    4) Had some wicked fun on the motorbike, lots of thinking time on it and lots of good memories.

    5) Got the all clear on the osteonecrosis, back into proper sports now! 🙂

Now I just need to meet a nice girl ‘n settle down!

Also looking to get a XR or a DRZ as they look fun 🙂

    I got a 16Kg last week – http://www.amazon.co.uk/16Kg-Kettlebell-Strength-Fitness-Training/dp/B004XM0YPM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1346790002&sr=8-3

Quite surprised about how much of a ‘cardio’ workout it’s giving me with all that swinging about. Worth the money I reckon 🙂

Looks like Wiggins has said a few words:

His words won’t sit well with many cyclists though.

Condolences to family and friends 🙁

re helmets, just make sure you get some advice from a decent shop – what you think might feel a good fit, might not be.

i.e. I found arai helmets really comfy, but the chap in the shop demonstrated how it wasn’t a great fit – shoei on the other hand fits perfect.

also with helmets, try and get one with a pinlock, they make a world of difference for me (no steaming up!)

Have a look at richa textiles. The adventure trousers work great for me. As for the jacket, I went for a furygan, but the richa rix2 was high on my list too – consider ones with a back protector (most midrange ones do) . Gloves – make sure they are waterproof, maybe invest in summer and winter ones.

I didn’t have fear of sudden death, just a fear of death in general a while back. Maybe this time last year.

It just kept sneaking into my thoughts on a daily basis.

I think it was todo with some underlying anxieties that I had – in general I’m a fairly anxious person in some situations.

Anyway, it went away – basically I gave myself some goals, filled my life up with things todo, now it doesn’t ever get into my mind.

I’ve just gone and brought a motorbike too, so maybe it was a mid-life crisis thing going on 😉
