He said: "There is a grumble and a rumble in the air from some of our regulars that we have lost the plot, we've disappeared up our a***s and we're predictable.

Well at least they know what the problem is, maybe they can fix it 🙂

igm – anything sold for under 40p does not count towards the charts. Your 29p just went to Sony. Same as the money spent on xfactors.

Really sticking it to the man there.

The 29p version does count for some retailers.

The 40p minimum is the price the retailer has to buy it for. Some retailers (Amazon at least) sold it at a loss.

I've gone over 500mb a month, but only because I stream music from last.fm morning and evening during my commute, and watch youtube vids on my phone.

If I wasn't doing this, 500Mb would be more than enough for me.

    Hero here.

Our office is pretty divided over andriod/iphone based phones at the mo, but the iphone crew were moaning a lot about the tesco prices yesterday.

    I kept quiet.

Yeah the google thing is a godsend! Just put all your contact details into gmail, then your phone will sync them all, additionally you can link your contacts with their facebook profiles – then it adds a picture for each contact, and gives you easy access to their photo albums.

Ah was just browsing on the ole hero this evening and came across this 🙂

    Couple of useful forums here.

Jojo, the app things, some you can pay for, but majority are free. You can probably do anything you want with the free apps – I've not paid for any yet.

The apps are available through the Market icon – you can just browse by category or search for something specific, and download them via wifi or mobile internet.

The apps are rated by popularity and also by release date – so it's easy to find the most common/useful apps.

You might need to register the phone to access the Market – I did on tmobile (they want proof you're over 18).

    Oh, and my favourite apps.

last.fm – Stream music from the popular music site

Maverick – A brilliant mapping app that caches the map data, so you don't need to wifi/mobile-net You can overlay google maps/open -streetmap/bing and some others. It also has some waypoint/tracks functionality.

Good events on justin.tv tend to shutdown pretty quick, or just are too busy!

    Try this combo:

    1) Download http://www.sopcast.com/download/
    2) Head over to http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=58324&part=sports

If that includes data then yes ave it.

I'm not clued up on the Iphone, but it's good to have at least 500mb a month data (the more the better).

Lately I've just been streaming from last.fm over 3G on the train and it's eating up my data (as expected), but will last the month 🙂

Most Iphones seem to be on contract for about £35 a month – at that price I personally wouldn't bother. I pay just under £20 a month for unlimited (but fair) data usage, 100mins, 100txts on t-mobile with a G2.

I've only recently got a console (xbox last week) after playing games on the PC solely for the last 15 years (ouch!).

What I found with the console is that I can plonk myself on a nice comfy sofa, put my feet up, switch it on and get playing straight away. I've also got a big TV to view the games on (better than my 19" monitor at least – and no, it's a pain to hook that up to the PC!).

I don't have faff about with any other issues (shutting down crappy software that starts up when the PC boots up, checking firewalls will let the game play).

On the xbox at least, the servers also seem quite reliable. I don't have to spend time finding servers with good pings and people in them.

Also, a load of people in the office seem to have consoles (well they all have xbox), so I can link up with them.

The downsides are that I really suck playing FPS with controllers, but this will just take some practice, I also can't use a steering wheel that I brought a while back for driving games.

wow danger mouse, that's a good deal from argos. I got the £200 jobby from game/gamestation last week with a couple of games.

I'm currently faffing about getting an hdmi to dvi converter as my 'hd ready' tv doesn't have an hdmi-input! I assumed it had, doh.

Then I need to get myself on xbox-live, then I can start kicking ass on modern-warfare!

Why not just re-use existing resources on 'how to ride a bike', rather than spend time writing up a 93 page book.

I have a Rendezvous with Death, by Alan Seeger

I have a rendezvous with Death
    At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
    And apple-blossoms fill the air
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath
It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
    And the first meadow-flowers appear.

God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where Love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
    Where hushed awakenings are dear…
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.

My dad had laser eye surgery done last Monday via optical express – it was just a single eye, so not sure what the above post means regarding only doing it on both eyes. I didn't ask how much it cost, but it seems to be working a treat.

He's now going through a short period of using a variety of eye drops to stop infections etc – sadly he said that he felt nothing during the surgery, which saddens me as I expecting at least some gory details! 🙂

Same here, my hdd with windows on died last night, so i'm stuck with linux for now. Tis the fresh 9.10 ubuntu install and working nicely so far 🙂

oh, and as for things to install – this page is quite nice:

I also install wine, closely followed by downloading http://www.spotify.com/ for all my music 🙂

The large white font (impact style) looks a bit ragged to me. It might just be my monitor, but the font doesn't look that smooth (compare it to the menu headings which are images – they look better imo).

Could well be buggy software – check you're using the latest firmware for the unit (you can download it from the garmin site).

One example fix that was introduced to for my etrex-venture

Changes made from version 2.60 to 2.70:
    1. Improve distance calculation in odometer.

    😉

I have a Rab Photon (got it half price in Field and Trek a week ago).

It's really nice (wearing it now to avoid putting on heating), but perhaps too warm if you're on the move (I would be anyway).

I don't know why you say it must be down – as Alex says, Primaloft is definitely worth considering.

Yup, frontline deployment training is very good – my brother is in the TA has recently been deployed – to me it seems like he's had non stop training for as long as I can remember. I'm also pretty impressed by the kit that he got supplied too.

Most outdoor shops sell spare poles, but they are may not be the same size / shape / material – that may not be a problem though (pole on my old tent broke so I replaced it with a cheapo one and it's fine).

First thing to try is to call some stockists for MSR (or MSR direct) and see if they stock them – MSR might even send you one for free (terra nova sent me some free spares).

I've never had a car but do fancy getting one just for the convenience.

I get the train to work, and use the bike to cycle to friends / family / shops.

Speaking of which, it's pishing down and I need to bike it to the shops to get my weekly grub 🙂
