Someone broke into my car and stole the hazard warning light switch out of the dash once.

picked up by the fuzz later that night for ‘flashing’?

We both-as far as I know- received simultaneous sms and email notifications about “someone might be using your account” the sender is indeed MS- and the twofactor aspect to both our msgs would suggest this isn’t a scam. If the OP had logged out and then seen a password update msg when he tried logging in again, this would be typical of the MS account protection. Don’t think that is particularly suspicious.

I just got a mail telling me that someone had accessed my Hotmail account and I need to click here to reset my account. Haha! I thought – I’m not born yesterday! – that’s a stupid scam to trick the naive into compromising their security.

However, when I logged out of Hotmail and logged in again, I got a similar message insisting I change my password, and confirming it with a SMS to my phone. So it seems legit

But – what is hard to undertstand is how someone could have hacked my account, given that I have 2-factor authentication activated that requires a code from an app on my mobile. Unless Putin mobilised the entire computing power of the FSB I don’t see how it could be hacked. But maybe I am just a naive sucker?

FWIW, i had the same msg via text and email yesterday morning. Changed the password as per the instructions, and similarly via the text verification two factor. I happened to believe this particular notification, as I’ve found MS pretty reliable on the mail security front-and this is the first notification of a security problem I’ve had in many years. Might be a mass security breach/data compromise affecting a lot of users. Of course it could be coincidence but it’s funny that I see this msg from the OP after my own experience yesterday. It may well be reported in coming days that there was/is a problem. Would be curious to read if any other STW outlook or hotmail users had seen anything themselves

boss has a habit of bursting into the area I work (not an office) in full song at about 200db. And i don’t work in a theatre. Typically a single line form a song he’s clearly heard in the morning. You’ll hear the same line later in the day, under his breath and then later, back at full Wembley vol.

Geezer’s pinning it all down with galloping bassnotes, running from the frontline to tell us that all this time we’ve been lied to by our generals, our politicians, our parents, our TVs.

is a very nice line for a review, especially a schoolboy’s efforts. well done that man.

Another vote for the natural MyProtein. 5gk bags are always on offer. Plus, I believe it is very slightly richer in protein compared to the flavoured versions. Also, be prepared for frequent night pees.. I found that a while ago when I upped my daily protein (not just shakes) I was peeing in the night a lot more-something I’ve never previously had. I had read that the extra synthesis of protein by the body puts your kidneys up a notch hense the extra pee.. it certainly was my experience-it did subside after a couple weeks Ymmv.

OP, it says online new customers 12 months BT Infitiy 1 at £39.99 incl rental.. Im currently a BT FTTP customer as of last year- no problems with their service, speed has been 100% consistent as advertised. Although the initial set up as it was a new build was a royal PITA. They tried to install copper lines 3 DAMN TIMES at a fibre only property. Took a total of 14 calls over 4 months totalling just over 7hrs on the mobile phone to make it happen. £90 of moible data charges too. In that regard, total f*cking idiots. The Openreach communication by the engineer surrounding the blowing of the fibre into the property was spot on i must say-kept me well in the loop.YMMV.

very nearly went with Sky as they were cheaper and i had a good experience with them as a TV customer. The bundled tv deal was attractive, but sadly my first contract had to be with BT in order for the infrastructure to be installed at the property as a truly new install. Will be shopping around certainly if re-contract is massively higher.

is it known if existing contracted customers face a price hike during contract?

alright ya faggot what you up to?
what ya doing that for ya faggot?
turn this shit off you faggots?

sometimes he softens it to ‘fagchops’

i genuinely dont think he knows what it means outside of his own bubble tho!

has there been a ‘things my dad says thread’ yet on STW? i feel your pain here. The last one there is brilliant in its unashamed horror.

classic. a thread about meditation you’re whining like ass hats? wise up people. Reminds me why I avoided STW for 18 months. Give the OP a break. Another vote for Headspace from me, I pay the sub and enjoy it- although I haven’t stuck to it religiously, but I found it good. Not sure i’m doing it correctly mind you- might switch from the evening to morning for the sessions and see if that boosts it. Found the iOS notifications good too. Some of them are surprisingly effective, especially at work for breaking up any stress.

I have to say, I don’t get the issue with £300 for a stag unless it’s someone you don’t like. The fact that it includes “including paintball, karting and zorb footy hotels + club entry spread over a full weekend” and so you’re only paying for beer makes it a bargain in my eyes.

Yes, he could have just gone to the local but where’s the fun in that? He can do that every weekend.

Plus, if you don’t like it, don’t go. Easy.

I think this nails it. Personally I’d have to really like someone to afford that, but then I am a tw@. I have turned down Ski trips before (I’ve never skied for starters) for a good mate of mine though as that was north of £500. He ended up having two stags… ridiculous.

Mine was, like others a quiet affair. I never even had a formal best man such is the retarded nature of my friends circle/males in my family. So it was about as pared back as it could be. Still had a brilliant time. The best stag i went on was a bit pricier but involved a ‘Wilderness Skills weekend’ in the Cairngorms. It was excellent fun and a real laugh. Ex military guy teaching a group of ‘lads’ how to best use their wood, at night, in a forest. As it happens I’m sadly not mates with the groom any more, but his effort was perfect and I think it was only about £150 a head.

Be glad you have a sense of identity, i like that folks that come from Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Yorkshire etc, seem to be proud to be from there, i grew up in Hampshire, you never really hear people talk of being passionate and proud of being from the Home Counties!

Always enjoyed political geography, my own family has constantly moved about, mostly for work.
On my mothers side, her mother was of Glaswegian stock, but she was born in Sunderland with father in dockyard, then raised in Sheffield as he then went to work in steel industry, she married my grandad and moved to Wiltshire, then Hampshire.
My grandad was born in Italy, then came over in the late 30’s, and worked on farms in Wilshire, East Sussex and then Hampshire.

On my dad’s side, they came from Larne in Northen Ireland, to Birmingham and Solihull.

I was raised in Portsmouth, then lived for years in North Yorkshire, before marrying a Norfolk girl and settling here, i’ve never felt settled in one place and i believe my heritage is a large part of that.

Wait what? OP is this a private school? I’m confused now, I can’t see where you said it was but everyone else seems to think it is?

I think I made that mistake, so apologies for the confusion. The point similar things go on in fee paying establishments however all the time is further to illustrate that it’s no guarantee of a more efficient ‘service’ being delivered- and that these things in my experience often have a simple ‘human error’ factor to them.

That the OP and his child is having to deal with incomplete, badly handled resources is the problem-and he has every right to be annoyed at that. I hope it is addressed OP, it isn’t good enough and should be brought up. My bluster was aimed at the fools above who started blabbing about copyright.

am more bothered at the fact that they have had a huge cash injection, splashed a load of it on sodding iPads, but can’t be arsed to at least provide a decent copy of a reading book!!

of course, and I understand that.. This is why I highlighted that it’s highly likely its just poor work carried out by an assistant in a hurry.. If it was the teacher then, they should know better- and would likely be embarrassed to know your feelings truthfully , but I’ve lost count the number of times my wife has mentioned carefully set out work and resources that have been butchered by an assistant who cant operate a departmental printer or copier. It happens. It shouldn’t but it does.

The allocation of funds in private education is too murky an area to delve into for you and I. It may well be that its been mis-spent to your liking, but this is about some photocopies and a lack of care taken when providing some homework resources. Look of course, I could be wrong maybe there are bigger cost cutting issues but… its unlikely. I got narked at people above distracting your original concern by bringing in copyright issues..and that would only make your life ALOT harder of you chose to take that stance on the matter!

I cant believe some are still hyping up the ‘copyright’ angle to the OP’s issue- its not helpful to simply state “they’re breaking the law” – you know, they and schools across the land probably are every damn day but that’s not the frigging point of the OP’s issue. I work in print production in Higher Education- trust me, I know about copyright and who is likely right and wrong here. CLAIMING AN ABUSE OF COPYRIGHT IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR THE OP. Trust me mate, going in with both feet like that will have you ‘black listed’ by said teacher and colleages for being a massive prick about it. Grow a pair and mention it to the teacher as others have said. Show some empathy while you’re at it to those who are working harder than most of us here to teach our little blighters and you’ll get a straight answer, or at least one closer to the truth.

If the school is anything like my wife’s place of work, who herself- for the snobs reading here- works ‘in a private, very affluent, high preforming la de da’ school, her temporary T.A is useless… that’s all it is. Shitty disinterested support staff, who are often overworked and undervalued even in the most wealthy of institutions. So guess what? It’s almost certainly a human issue, NOT some overarching political cost cutting move by some one diddling you out of your fees.

In Aberdeenshire, where they have lived for years, some of the old locals still speak Doric as noted above – is that a dialect of Scots, are both dialects of English, or are they all languages?

I’m from Aberdeen/shire, and as with Donald above (who seems to know his stuff!) can confirm Doric is a Scots dialect- although it has such a strong identity that it could argualby be its own language. Track down some writing by broadcaster Robbie Sheppard, he has written columns in local press in Doric. Even better, try finding some traditional Doric language on YouTube. I know very little of it from a historical and linguistic POV but it makes me swell up with pride with my roots being in the bleak farming land surrounding Aberdeen via Sutherland and..er Montrose… I’m actually in a kilt writing this right now.

FWIW, my mum is a Highlander and English was her second language when she moved to Aberdeen from Melness as a 15 year old in the early 60’s. She had to adapt pretty quickly, even then, to get a job etc.

As an aside for the OP’s benefit, its hacks me off when searching iPlayer for programs that I cant filter out BBC Alba programming from the results… if someone knows a way to do that id be grateful haha!

The UK didn’t, 17M out of 60M did. The young, as ever, are on the right side. The old fogeys have the power, but they’ll die soon.

I just look at my kid’s school – 250-odd kids, from a couple of dozen different countries, speaking loads of different languages, and they couldn’t care less about race or religion.

The Fear game is not one I subscribe to I haven’t got enough time left to waste on it !

But your previous statement about how the idiots ARE now in charge and there’s nothing we can do about it, and that it “all points to apocalypse”.. is fear. is it not? Do you mean something different about the fear game or am I misunderstanding your point?

No point worrying about it. I just hope that if such an event occurs I’m at the centre of the blast. Would much prefer being vaporised over an existence like that portrayed in the film ‘The Road’.

Ps – If you think I sound depressing, don’t watch the film. I was ready to get the noose out!

I would urge anyone to watch that film, it is bleak but it doesn’t pretend not to be. The humanity in the film certainly stayed with me. Its not as bleak as Threads though..

I was born in 1983, an auspicious year in the Cold War history and have grown up with a fascination with that period, beyond the mighty Culture Club and Adam and the Ants. By comparison to then, we are living in a safe period. The book ‘The Dead Hand’ is worth a read if anyone is interested in how fragile the whole thing is and how close human error brought the world close to M.A.D.

    Remember though, duck and cover..

The issue is that a “physical” wall isn’t actually very useful. As proven in Berlin many years ago now, you need a wall PLUS armed guards with machine guns with an uninterrupted line of sight, which means thousands of guards and guards posts.

This. It’s almost cartoonish in its naievity. I am looking forward to seeing how “beautiful” it looks though, that is of course key to its success. Hope Tommy Walsh is available, would be quite a comeback episode for Ground Force. I bet they thought they couldn’t top Mandela. Ratings winner, in the chasm left by GBBO? Good luck Ant & Dec in 2020, you’re f*cked. I’m on it fellas, don’t worry.

    I expects its this

I would add that schools are experiencing a massive funding crisis at the moment so going to the school and moaning at the teacher for having 30 kids and only 20 books is going to be unhelpful at best.

This. As it happens my wife is a primary teacher at a leading school in the NW and I happen to work in the print industry in Higher Education, and I would think its nothing more than the above temporary situation. Tracking materials and books handed to children is a battle of wills. They get lost. Regarding copyright, I wouldn’t go in with that angle personally, however they are likely infringing a law there for sure. A teacher wouldn’t let a kid go without, to adhere to a copyright law when it came to a handful of resources. They’re not likely being tight.
