Just get a mate to pop into reception and ask if anyone has handed in the £20 note that his child may of dropped outside a few weeks ago.

    a mate?

surely this is the PRIME opportunity of the OP to indulge his inner Angus Young. Duckwalk into that school office like a boss.

We’ll you’ll not be doing major renovations then I guess. Hang a few pictures and some curtains?

more or less yeah, some bespoke but simple MDF shelving for cupboards/airing closets are on the to do list.

Thanks for all the responses people, some things cropping up that have caught my eye. The mention of concrete lintels DOES apply funnily enough. Goosed a drill bit recently on a lintel hanging the lightest of blinds- user error there and lessons were learned. SDS/corded drill is on the list..

Will the OP please clue us up on what a “typical” job is?

I’m a new home owner, its a new property and I’m limited in my personal tool collection. I want to see what ppl have found most useful around the home over the years of average or ‘typical’ home ownership and what they would consider the most useful in terms of investment. I’m not talking about knocking through walls or converting a loft etc or building a replica Parthenon- just yet. Whilst i understand most typically buy as they need for a given job, I’ve been curious if there’s been a certain item that stands one in good stead. Simply, good tools to have for the amateur DIY’r.

Do you mean the owner of a newly built home or new to owning a home?

both, I’m the new (first) owner of a new build property.

I don’t think I’ve ever bought tools because I “wanted some tools,” rather I’ve bought them over the years as jobs broke out which required them.

Neither have I- that’s why I didn’t say i “wanted to by some tools” I’m looking for experience and wisdom of those that have gone before me in the home DIY game. This is not based on having lots of spare income lying around because see above.

I have a pragmasis set up, and can vouch for the company and their service. The installation of, in my case a resin ground anchor, along with the chain was very straightforward. Chain is a beast. All in all a great service and very knowledgeable company. They have some great youtube videos too.

Kryptonite FAR from best in any situation. Look up Pragamsis locks and chains and Allmax if you are in any way serious about security.

We’ve all been here. I also happen to ride a bike that I first got in 2006. It is my only bike. It’s a nice problem to have if there are ppl worrying about “buying something that will be an evolutionary dead end” although I understand that POV. Its BS though. Its riding a bike in the dirt. It’s still fun and I still wring every ounce out of the 11 year old bike I have.

Riding frequency is the point for me. I know I couldn’t justify that Tues AL I want today, but I would say if you have no mortgage, Kids or serious financial commitments (as I and many others do).. f*cking go for it, put it all on red, pick up that phone now and get spendy. You cant take it with you after all lol

My wife was asked this question about 8 years ago, or something along the lines of “what do you want out of life / where do you see yourself in 10 years”

She responded with “I see myself with 3 children and a dog at home”, bizarrely it didn’t impact her career at all and she continued to move up through the ranks and is now at Vice President level / national head despite having has 3 children in the last 5’ish years and spent well over half of that time on maternity leave, the last stint being 11 months off.

It’s not like it’s a small company she works for either, think the eagle of banking.

Personally I see myself as regional head in the not too distant future and that’s about it.

    no dog then. quitter.

“Nice Cotic, mate. I’ve got a Soul. Ace bikes!”

That’s cool. I like when that happens- it’s rare though. I presume the same thing happens at Tennis courts/golf clubs/climbing walls etc…?

Worst heckle? You don’t get out much.

‘worst’ as in poorly executed, lacking in creativity, humour or wit. Not in terms of offence intended. I was so dumbfounded by what he was blabbing, I found my self wishing he’d sworn at me. Would have been funnier. Just seemed a weird thing to shout, even sarcastically.

OP should never attempt a ride on a fat bike if he’s uncomfortable with people shouting comments about his choice of components.

    no danger of that happening.

tip it out on the local bowling green.

Alternatively, if not feeling the anarchist vibe that day, pop the whole lot-whilst inside the pot- in a bin bag, drive to a forest somewhere and tip it out. They’ll rebuild a colony in no time and you’ll get your pot back. Surprised you didn’t think of that before spending £10 on reboiling a kettle 5 times..

My neighbour, a Pakistani, is a Police Officer

Why is it important we know that he’s Pakistani? Can’t see a connection to the part about him being on a cyber crime detachment in the police. comin’ over here, solving crime in our communities.. i dunno.. :-)

In Scotland those hills used to be hooching with people and their cattle. The Highlands were not a wilderness.

I think its about turning the clock back further than domesticated cattle and managed agriculture. Think thousands, not hundreds of years.

Love the wild boar wandering around the forest of Dean

Have they not caused ‘mayhem’ with local gardens/greens, digging them up etc? or is that somewhere else down south? agree on the introduction of former indigenous species- a good thing. Though i think i read recently of problems with beavers (calm down) causing problems in areas where they’ve been introduced.

Wife’s gran got done this way too, the lovely helpful men even drove her to the cashpoint and back so she could pay them in cash arseholes

Wow. That is despicable. All these examples are. Curiously today, there was an article on the BBC news about some UK arrests involving the Microsoft/software scam. My father who’s in his early 70’s now sees them as a sort of sport.. He even had a cold caller call him back asking to apologise for the torrent of f-words he had to listen too which was impressive and brazen at the same time. Gets the MS one a lot, but again has no internet at this property. He has sadly though been talked into a new call package at one point by a cold caller telephony provider… tried the BT Call Guardian but after 6 months couldn’t work it out properly. It was a lottery when family called if he could or would pick up. Sacked it off in the end. Unsolicited call marketing across the board SHOULD BE ILLEGAL imo.

What’s the consensus on linen? It’s often 30+ degrees in the lab as we’re not allowed air con.

when not in the lab, are you responsible for the running of a large multinational fruit canning operation?

No misquote, the thread is mostly about floating rotors (since almost all rotors are vented) and you didn’t say which you were referring to so it was a fair assumption

Read my posts more carefully. There is a distinction in the context between the usages of vented and traditional rotors. The post of mine you quoted was in direct reference to those contributors immediately prior who hadn’t addressed why-in my view- there weren’t a ton of professionals using them currently. “Almost all rotors are vented” shows a misunderstanding sorry-The vented rotor discused above is of the type hope produce of a sandwiched layer making up the rotor disc, not in reference to machined cutouts in the braking surface.

The op asked a direct question about the vented rotor not just tradional floating rotors. Semantics are important when talking about two distinctly different products.
