im hugely relieved by this thread. so thanks to the OP. I’ve already mentioned one of mine above, but another prominent one is pouring boiling liquid on myself/others.

    cant explain that urge.

nickhit3 – where did you buy those from?

bought new on ebay. consistently the cheapest way to find some brands i’ve found so far. the seller in my case was ‘mrpainterman’

wearing them now. toasty feet on this filthy day.

Perhaps you’re not in as good a nick as you think you may be.

This – inevitable with parenting a young child!

But i don’t think there’s much that combats picking up infection from explosive vomiting etc.

normal. I’ve never had vomiting and the runs like it before child one appeared.. and yes, she only started getting sick at nursery. Both parents affected. Its brutal.

just bought a pair of DM Gaucho commando soles online- bargains can be found, about 45/50 off RRP. Had to replace a 18 mo old pair of 1460’s only because the sole was like a mirror in the wet.. but there’s a ton of life in them. The commando sole is great. Love DM’s

seriously though to the OP, you’re not alone. Had similar thoughts. I recall the comedian Richard Herring making a remark in one of his podcasts about falling down the stairs holing his new baby- not out of fear, but by making a conscious decision.

    experienced similar morbid thoughts.

Yeah, because all good children’s stories make complete logical sense.

yeah, because people don’t read threads properly.

Great fresh and original point there, well done.

I fail to see how a kids book can get people so wound up. Out little ‘un quite likes it, it doesn’t really bother me.

I’ll let you into a little secret: I wasn’t being entirely truthful about how annoyed I was. I still maintain its a terrible children’s book, but as you point out if my child likes it I’m all for it.

Agree 100% – memorably bad, charmless book. I’ve read a few books to the kids where you think this is so bad it must be some sort of hidden joke, but they’re all forgotten titles. For a book like this to endure from the 60s is really strange.

    Nail meet head.

Dude, you should never, ever watch an episode of Adventure Time.

    Like, ever.

You’d have a stroke or something.

or Uncle Grampa….or Sanjay and Craig….or The Amazing world of Gumball.

Surreal entertainment is where the kids are at now.

I suspect, you’re like, right on man.

I was raised on things like Vic and Bob from the youngest years owing to my surreal comedy fan older brother, and I loved that then and I love it now. I get the surrealism. This is just a terrible book. Turns out I’m just , like, not with the program.

Or it’s a story about a tiger coming to tea, because kids love that shit

the tiger coming to tea is fine, even what it gets up to is fine. The ending is rubbish. The trouble is, you don’t see it coming. It’s like that moment in Dallas when an entire plot all revealed to be a dream. I nearly thew it out the window in such a rage I was.

    No it doesn’t.

    yes it does. its sh!t.

Then you see a picture of the tiger playing the bugle

ah yes. That’s cleared it right up. Mods, please delete this thread. Turns out I was wrong all along.

If you think that’s bad – try one of Judith Kerr’s other ones: ‘Mog in the Dark’

We have a bunch of these. Waste of paper.

it doesn’t need a morality tale.

true, it does need to make some kind of sense. Talking greedy tigers, fine that’s not the issue. The ending is piss poor, and doesn’t relate in ANY way shape or form to the entire story. I felt sorry for wasting her time it was that bad.

Just be thankful you don’t have to read Mr Men stories every night, those go on forever.

we do, in French, as she is half French.

I’m up the road in Lancaster, Binners but did live and work in Preston a couple of years ago. Wife still works there. You are so right, my heart goes out to those affected and the knock on effects for the region here. This will have a significant impact to the economy as you say. A black day for the NW.

FWIW i just finished reading VULCAN 607, a retelling of operation BLACK BUCK 35 years ago. It’s by Rowland White and was published in 2002 iirc. Well worth a read for anyone interested in the period and/or aviation.

theres plenty of NHS Dentists around”

    yeah sorry that’s BS.

there most definitly isn’t plenty, and if you find one- its 18months to get on the surgery books (north Lancashire here), this was the ONLY way to get any non emeregency treatment after moving here i was infomed. I’m facing the prospect of a crown on an old Root canal molar I had done on a Denplan plan in Scoland- I’m currently with a ‘MyDentist’ practice plan locally which even still is going to be in the region of £500 all in. I pay £15 a month and im on the ‘least’ problematic/healthiest patient banding.

This all relies on retaining the pass from my wife to go biking….

careful now. I was just told to “lose the tag “pass” and ride yer bike when you like” in another thread. Apparently i have a terrible wife too.

Julliette is what I’d like my next daughter to be called- don’t know the sex yet but find out soon, if it’s a boy… probably not that. I also have a M surname. It’s a bad one to find names that don’t sound odd too.
