either get the proper stuff from justridingalong.co.uk or go down to bnq and buy some window repair tape. it's ok, not as good as copter tape but not the same price either. horses for courses.

the dave buchanan thing is interesting but write your own story.

when i started on the journey that is cancer i decided very early on not to read anything off the web or listen to anyone else's story as that was their story not mine. i started off as a 15 stone chunk of hair and gristle and yorkshire and i'm now finished chemo and waiting to see if i need radio therapy. i'm now about 17.5/18 stone and as unfit as i've ever been. my story was different to everyone else who's been through cancer of whatever sort and so will your story be.

part of your story is the stw forum and the support and general banter you experience on here. but it's also a support mechanism for you and probably meg and allows you to download some of the sh*t that will be going round your head.

Live your story for you, experience the ups and downs that only you and meg will truly experience and cope with it in YOUR OWN way.

i took a bit from lance's books and a bit from other people when i met them in chemo but most of my journey was made up as and when i could.

keep talking to meg, as i'm sure you will, but a couple of times my wife found stuff out after i'd blogged it! oops, not what you or her need.

your posts are great mark, you'll find it helps so much downloading the rubbish that's in your head to be shared by the stw massive. my blogs did this for me and have been a great support mechanism for my mental welfare.

you will get through, you've got this far and you have a way to go but you will get on with it. don't think about your wonderful chest as was, think about how cool the scars look. i have a great deal of scar tissue sat under my lung which i'm waiting to see if it need radio therapy. it's just the new me, to me it's not scar tissue it's just a challenge to make my lung work as well as it did before. all these challenges are the new climbs, the new 'first downs' and the new singletrack at warp speed. the new bits of life that you're unsure of.

it sounds like with the support of meg you will share the experience. not sure if you're allowed baths with your scar but try a couple of tea tree oil drops in a bath (check with you doc) it'll help with the healing.

sunday wobbler. i appreciate you're not saying dick is rubbish but spare a thought for the people who actually do change the pads on your car. at least dick can string a sentence together and understands percentages and stuff. when my students go on work experience changing pads is a job i see them do regularly……..
jump to your own conclusions. i've maintained my cars since i was sixteen (built my first one after finishing school) and they require common sense and patience and the right tools.

dangermouse, sorry for the slow response. 203mm. whether i need them or not i'm not sure, they are very reassuring on the rig their on at the moment (8 inch travel all day fun rig) but on a hardtail (i'd like to build a bfe) i'd look at a small rear twin pot and some m4's on the front.

to be honest if your pads have another 30percent left why are you changing them now? if you've had the car from new and it's the first time you had to do anything to the brakes then look at the mileage and thats 70 percent of what you could expect to get.

now for a slight thread highjack.
what's the smax like? i'm thinking of maybe changing from the vw touran to the smax just because it's longer and may have a bit more room for kids and bikes. is it any good though?

not sure what peaty weighs but he uses really small brakes. i'd suggest that the v2 would be over kill for the back of a hardtail as they tend to skip around more than a full sus, also when braking the weight goes to the front. i'm 17.5st and have hayes hfx9 on mine which have been amazing so far. crc had them for under 40 quid recently.
my brother in law has some v2's and they're incredibly powerful but there comes a point when the tyres lose grip…..

scaredy pants, how very dare you think that the photos are anything but summer. summer in sheffield looks like that, as does spring and autumn. winter is a shade darker and the light only lasts for a couple of hours. it's why we're hard as and can ride anything in any weather…… so there.

mmm there's always been a comparison between them, i think it's a boutique bike that works thing. i've fallen for the turner trap and am well and truly sunk, if i could afford a bushel of turners then i would but i do love the gearbox bike…….
stick to my highline for now and maybe look at the new rfx when dt is happy with it.

i seem to think you're already lurking in the turner forum on mtbr but here's the best place for your 'friend' to look there's a really sweet polished one on there which is uk based too.

i've heard good things and three people i know have bought one each for silly knock down prices from a large concern who advertise and get slated on here. sheffield, chesterfield and rotherham………
they have a really good deal on.

like foxy says don't apologise. the whole thing is that you have to be just a bit more selfish than feels comfortable and you need to understand that you are the focus.
if you want i'll get some characters together and go and show him how good he is……….
seriously though, let your emotion through, people will understand. glad you like the wedding venue, has it got a pump track?

it makes a marked difference. we did a great deal of research when designing the hartlett. we were amazed at the results. the feel of a qr wasn't that much different to a 20mm in normal riding but on off camber techy stuff it was noticeable. stiffer but also more confidence inspiring. to be honest i wouldn't ride a normal qr front any more and i love a bolt thru rear too but then that's me.

i slipped a disc about five and half years ago. pain like you wouldn't (maybe you would) believe.
I found riding actually the most comfy i got but only on road as i had reduced mobility and getting on and off was difficult.
i ended up going and seeing a fab physio terrorist at the white house in sheffield and she put me straight, literally! i have then done pilates every morning and evening since and it's been pretty good the odd twinge now and again but much more stable.

i hate them with a passion but got talking to a regional manager one night and it was a very enlightening conversation. they don't advertise, other than on their litter. they pay fair wages and look at keeping their production sustainable.
perhaps for a workshop the people running it are wanting to provoke thought and debate………

sorry i've not been paying attention and i think that someone else mentioned the teachers benevolant fund http://www.divide.org.uk/charitydetail/36/ also don't forget to get your union involved, they can be useful.
the decision to get married has to be made by the two people who know the most. go for it, love each other and live your life.
it's really hard, neigh impossible, to be positive all the time. it's much easier to be honest, the people who understand you and love you will understand.

aawww boo hoo. get out and ride the thing. i'm off the bike for however long while chemo sorts stuff out and there's a massive thread by a guy going through something similar. i won't speak for him but as far as i'm concerned you have a bike, you have legs (an assumption on my part i know) and you can breath. go ride. ride and get the love in the legs, the wind in the hair and the adrenalin through the veins.
either that or sell it and by a chess set.

loads of people handle the news in different ways. my mum had breast cancer so felt guilty and thought (completely illogically) that she'd passed it on to me. i know i have man boobs but thats a bit harsh. someone else i know of his wife didn't speak about the cancer at all all the way through his treatment!
dyna ti is right as in you don't need extra sh*t to carry around emotionally. try talking to your dad, if it doesn't work put that part of life on pause (as with so much more) and pick it up after the journey. you may not have the emotional energy, keep your love and smiles for meg. she'll be the one that is there when you feel cr*p, when you're knackered, when you're struggling. make sure you tell her how much you love her and keep some smiles and laughter for her, she'll deserve it the most.

i've just come home after being in for three nights as the chemo knocked my immune system for six and i got a cold or something.
you have as much chance as anyone of beating it and coming out the other side. that's what i tell myself everyday and i work towards that. the strength and fitness will drop off but they can be worked on after the treatment and they will hold you in good stead initially as you'll be more resilient as you start your treatment.
it's sh*t, really sh*t, but every time i go to hospital there's someone worse off than me and usually they show amazing courage and humour. it's a humbling experience the love and best wishes you get from strangers is a strength and they do it without concious effort.
megan i can't imagine what you're going through as my wonderful wife is going through the same and being incredibly strong. but i'm sure there's hurt going on and an inner turmoil, like others have said it's almost easier being the patient.
i wish you all the luck that i've had so far and it's a sincere offer of getting in touch if you want. i understand if you don't. the blog for me has been excellent and very cathartic being able to down load my head. it also allows friends and family to see how you're doing.
    best wishes

there are some nice little trails around the back of cardigan but it's not a flowing place and the preseli's are a bit bland and boggy. llys y fran is ok but not a hard trail to ride.
you can go further up the coast to nant yr arian or inland to brechfa which i have on good authority is good.
the best i've found is by buying a couple of maps and looking for contour lines!

    good luck to you.
if it's a decent company they may allow some flexibility in the hours you work, there was something in the news not long ago about it. if it's not so decent company then you'll be looking for a new nursery etc or job!
our circumstances changed just after number two arrived (i lost my job and had to retrain) and it ended up being a right ball ache for 6 months or so but you get through it and it sorts itself out to a greater or lesser degree.
    can you go part time?
    can you get another job?
    can you work from home?
just questions i'd ask myself in that situation
like i say, good luck! oh and good luck with number two

do it for six months and save the fuel money in a box under the bed. if you decide you can't do it then get the box out and you have the start of a deposit for a car.
we were carless for a while, it died and we didn't need to get another, public transport for the wife who doesn't drive and i rode to work or cadged lifts. it was great to be honest. the only problem was as the wife family live in wales, we're in sheffield, hiring a car was ok but not ideal.
we now have kids and the need to get them to various places make having a car not essential but very useful.
having said that while i'm on chemo i'm not driving much and we're surviving without using the car as much. if car hire was easier and cheaper then i'd be tempted in the next couple of years when the kids are bigger (able to ride further) to try living without a car again. having said that i'd love to buy a van brew my own diesel and convert it to a camper style thing.

ok so i'll add mine. it's not getting used much due to cancer at the moment but fit fids buffed it to within an inch of it's life recently or which I thank him greatly. oh and by the way it's my only off road bike and it does climb lighter than it's 40lbs suggest! (i could do with losing some weight too!)
