Conan – how much did you exceed the maximum by? Do you think it was the carbon that played a part in it?

Getting a little worried about this 10mm again…

I feel better about this 10mm now.. Thanks!

Mike – do you have any more detail on this zero plus IS to Post mount adaptor please? Can’t find much online and if there is one out there it will save me £30 on a big rotor.

    Cheers

Thanks Paul. Looks as though I’m gonna have to go for a 220mm disc after a quick convo with Hope….

Should look ‘super rad’ but worried it may be above spec for forks…

Thanks for the info. So how do these 10% codes work then and how do you get them? I’m gonna be ordering a fair bit of gear over the next few days potentially from CRC and want to get the best deal…

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess the answer to the question ‘Is it worth it?’ is it depends… on the scheme being operated and the intentions of the employee as to what sort of bike/riding they want and how long they intend to lease it over.

Cheers for the info ppl. Was frame only stumpy sorry i didn’t make that clear. That link does look promising kayak. I’ll give them a buzz tomorrow especially as its 100 sheets off! That hotlines site seems to mirror the crc stock levels.

    Ta muchly for the replies

All 3 finishes out of stock on crc… And wanted yellow as it reminds me of my old Raleigh Max Cromo!

Thanks for your advice ScottChegg. I will definately have to read the manual in my hire car next time. The handbrake on this car had a mind of its own like; it would release when you didn’t want it to and not release when you did. It was just an observation that every Vauxhall I have driven has been poor at best even to a clot like me.

That makes sense, guess vauxhall never thought of that on whatever it was I hired… might of been a meriva.. had these crazy suicide rear doors! I still don’t understand why they replaced the old fashioned ‘hand’ brake. I’m of the ‘if it aint broke don’t fix it’ camp – more stuff to go wrong.

I’ve got an 04 plate Passat 2.0l 20V petrol and its never missed a beat from 60K up to a current 110K. It’s pot luck with second hand cars like, guess I’ve just been lucky… It doesn’t get much better than 35mpg tho!

I really don’t understand all this electronic handbrake stuff. There was nothing wrong with the old fashioned types and if they went wrong were simple things to fix. The one i used in a vauxhall hire car a year back was the worst I’ve experienced. You had to have your foot on the footbrake in order to release it, I was in it with a colleague who was not comfortable jumping from the footbrake to the bite point on a very steep hill and we must have rolled a good car length back…

Some interesting points above. I had never really considered the low average speeds and the abundance of bikes which means drivers expect cyclists. Maybe I should get a Boris Bike tomorrow instead of a tube ticket…

I guess keeping calm and expecting everyone to kill you is a good strategy! It just looks so dangerous!

Thanks for the ideas ppl. 25% reduction in mpg’s does worry me a little tho! Especially as my 2.0 petrol passat currently only gets 35 at best…. I may need a different solution like a van…

Cheers was. I was already slightly worried mpg’s anyway…. I may have to start looking 2nd hand

My mate who wanted to get into mtb’ing asked for my advice on a bike and then went on to say “I’m gonna buy a DH bike cos I like the look of them and put 27 gears on it so I can go fast up and down”

I tried to explain but he had none of it. Luckily he has since seen sense and bought something sensible.

Its gonna be a yellow one especially as my first full size mountain bike as a kid was a bright yellow raleigh max cro-mo with canti brakes! God I loved that bike! Cheers again for the info ppl

Thanks for all of the responses STW’ers! Some really good info here. I’m leaning slightly towards the medium now… But I have definitely decided on a colour! Just need to soften the blow to the missus now that I’m about to spend £1500 on a frame and various other bits I need 8O

I bought some Troy Lee Grand Prix’s a good few years back now and they’re the dogs. Good durable glove with great grip and decent amount of protection, not a XC glove but still not over sweaty on summers days

Thanks for the information fella. Some good food for thought there. I wish I was over cumbria way sometime soon as I’d take you up on that. I’m across in Newcastle at the mo but working away lots. Its quite annoying as I’m right on the borderline between frame sizes and at 900 quid I wanna make sure I get it right… Out of interest what forks you running on the mega and what drivetrain? I’ve got some 160 coil lyriks sat in the garage and thinking of setting up as a 2×9 as I already have 90% of the drivetrain parts

Which rack have you got legal alien? Cheers

I would not be towing anything else it would solely be for the bike rack. So… If I get a rack that mounts onto the plate I could save money by not buying the ball bit and wouldn’t have the extra bit sticking out the back of my car? Thanks for all of the info ppl!
