Bloody hell what a nightmare. Mine are a slightly different size to that but non-RFT’s (despite not having a spare wheel…). I’d be interested to know exactly what they fit this weekend.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the Eagle F1 Assymetric 3’s aren’t available in an non run flat for BMW’s anywhere (as far as I can fathom)

Funky Dunc – Is it the assymetric 2 RFT’s you’re getting?

BMW dealer said they could fit the 3’s but I’d need to sign a disclaimer.. Tyre place said it didn’t matter a hoot!

I bought an XBox One S a couple of months back and I’m pretty well hooked on Forza Horizon 3! Top notch game. It’s got proper driving sim dynamics (for the most part) in an arcade open world environment. Perfect balance and the other games (some of which are very good.. F1 2017, Destiny 2, etc) have barely had a look in.. I nearly bought Forza7 the other day but will wait til it’s come down in price a bit and I’ve took some of the other games out the wrappers!!

The off road races with the Ariel Nomad as weapon of choice are great fun and quite challenging.

Why on earth was the on-board from Stroll’s car not available to the stewards in the post race evaluation of the incident?! Something not quite right there – the stewards should have access to anything and everything immediately.

I’m not normally one for conspiracies but Vettel has been racing cars for long enough not to do something like that by accident. I think that may have been intentional.. and also taking his steering wheel with him was odd.

Retrieving a semi-decomposed rat from beneath the floor.. sadly I experienced this first hand and the smell will stay with me forever. Truly horrific stench is a dead rat.

It just doesn’t feel right when it’s to my left and the guard catches (maybe I can adjust the guard though). I’ll give the crab a blast though. Also going to borrow another strimmer from someone and see if that helps with my analysis of WTF is going on..

Although it’s still not completely outside the realms of possibility that I’m using this tool in a totally inappropriate and nonsensical manner. I’m due a good owld strimming sesh at the wknd so will report back..

Reet – I think we’re getting somewhere now after you’ve said that Si. I would also usually strim with the border to my right so the leading edge cuts but I think the head spins clockwise thus throwing the clippings into the border not away from it.

Ha! I should probably just get a gardener (left of right handed) and let them sort it out..

Sweepy – that makes sense aye. Same logic as them floor buffers.. twist the left down and it pulls you forward and right down it pushes you back (or vice versa).. maybe.

I’m gonna have to get a pic or something as this has got me heed well and truly pickled!

Ed – the head swivels a bit (maybe 30-45 degrees worth of range) so aye it’s one of them.. I take it you didn’t get on with yours?!

Just to be clear I can walk the other way but I have to swap arms (the one on the trigger at the top and the handle in the middle) but it’s not comfortable as a righty.. (and the guard gets in the way)

Cougar – you wanna buy a left handed strimmer? Two careful owners..

    nickewen

Walking in the border fixes it but then I get my trainers all muddy and leave footprints in the soil..

It does have a guard yes and one direction partially obscures the sweep path (don’t think you can move it but will have a look).

I’m starting to question my own sanity sat here at the moment!

Next time y’all strimmer the borders can you all make note of where the thing spits the cutting and if it’s comfortable or not please? I can’t be alone here..

LOL @ all of that lot ^^^! It’s not symetrical (the strimmer) if you know what I mean.. so not just a case of walking the other direction as the guard catches as you move the head.

I’m pretty sure we have the 34cdi classic. Think we paid about £2800 all in for new boiler in the garage (old boiler was a back boiler from the 60’s.. located behind fireplace) and new radiators and pipework for the whole house, so aye £2800 is steep for a simple swap.

In terms of getting a higher rated boiler as above (for running mutliple showers etc.) it also depends on your cold water pressure into the house.. this is the limiting factor for us as it’s shite! So getting something more powerful wouldn’t have had any gains.

Martin Brundle has just put a very good article (titled “Vettel losing risk game”) that nicely summarises the start line incident on Sky sports news about half an hour ago. I can’t help but agree with:

“Vettel squeezing Verstappen, who is not his championship rival, so hard in those conditions created a high risk of contact, a puncture, or being turned around. He should have kept more to the outside and swept into turn 1 on the ideal line. Moving significantly across a wet grid is always high risk”

He also says the following, which some people have already discussed (i.e. Vettel should know better having raced cars for a long time):

“Vettel had no way of knowing Raikkonen was there as he aggressively went to cover Verstappen. Equally, especially in those conditions, he should not have assumed nobody would be there”.

My view is that Vettel made a very bad judgment call and it cost him dearly. I don’t think he should be penalised and agree with the racing incident conclusion but as above, he was the only one with the ability to have changed the outcome.

    Brundle talks sense once again.

Second that ^^^ about the price match. Drove down to Halfords picked up 2 x 598s and paid the price I showed the fella on me phone. I’ve done a number of trips with them and despite the mpg hit they’re spot on.

Lol @ “getting my arse handed to me”

I’ve never heard of the lean toward the outside of the bend. I’ll have to remember that tomo. I think I probably do brake too much as well.. I’m going to try and find the limit much earlier in the practice session tomorrow and really try hard not too lift off in the faster bends!

Turns out the half price offer is just two time attack style sessions.. so no racing tekkers required. I’m gonna focus on creating space on track for myself as noted above and try to get dialled in as early as poss.

LOL @ that ^^^! “I’ve never gone fast enough” :D

On a serious note though, the wind noise thing worried me for a spell before I decided to not give a shit and overthink it. A lot of life’s problems can be solved by giving less of a shit.

Aye it’s a right bastard is tinnitus. Had chronic tinnitus in both ears for about 9 years now. 32 years old now. As above – really battled with it for a couple of years and used to really affect me/get me down.. Not sure what “clicked” but I seem to be able to ignore it for the most part nowadays.

Obviously if I’m in a quiet environment I can hear it and have to wear earplugs for loud clubs and motorsport events. I hadn’t heard of the 3D scanning technology for custom plugs – I’ll have a look into that thanks. I have some custom ones from many moons ago (via the old fashioned method) and they’re not a great fit anymore.

My advice (easier said than done) is just to keep yourself busy (mind and body occupied) and try to forget about it. Although it sounds like yours is louder than mine. I have hyperacusis as well, horrible stuff.

As for the cause probably a multitude of things, I was quite close to an aerosol explosion as a lad, lots of loud clubs (abroad is worst due to no one giving a shit about regs), job in heavy manufacturing, motorsport events, etc.

Haha – I went through the painful update process last night.. The flipping controller of all things needed an update! That was after the console main one and then the F1 50GB one.. Was sat for quite some time before I could even get a single lap of Silverstone in! (Spa was still downloading..)

I did my bathroom a couple of years ago and whilst I’m really happy with the result it took a bloody age! My two penneth worth:

    > Tiling stressed me a bit because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I was constantly balancing out getting them up at a reasonable rate within the adhesive open time (~25 mins I think) and getting them spot on/flat/even etc..

    > Do walls first IMO. That’s what I did and seemed to work (i.e. not worrying about the floor the whole time doing the walls).

    > As above: plan plan plan. You don’t want a daft slither of a tile top/bottom or left/right. Start 1 row up from floor level with a batten fixed to the wall to keep things nice and level, go all the way up to ceiling and then bottom row later.

    > Make sure to scrape out any excessive adhesive from grout lines immediately (I just used a tile spacer).

    > Buy loads of those £1 orange buckets from B&Q, using 1 per mix and then just bin them. It’s not worth the hassle of cleaning them (half set adhesive is a pain to clean out).

    > As above. If the walls are flat it makes things so much easier. I dot and dabbed (with screws through dabs into masonry) all the walls and tanked/taped the area where the shower is. I wouldn’t even try tiling an uneven wall as a DIY’ist.

    > Pick tiles not too big not too small.. Too small and it’s more time getting them up/grouting and too big they will be a nightmare on anything bar a perfectly flat wall (they’ll “rock” on any bump and stick out at the extremity of the tile more than a small one).

Think that’s it from me.. IANATiler just some of the things I found out along the way.

I actually bought an XBox One last night.. Basically as above really re the new XBox X – Good justification for your fancy telly if you have one… I’ve got a 10+ year old Panasonic plasma so it wasn’t for me. I’m not worried at all about my new toy becoming obsolete in November.

GAME are doing the 1TB S with 7 games for £290. I traded back a couple of the titles I was less interested in immediately and stuck an extra £20 to get the new F1 game. I was pretty happy with the deal and ended up with the following games:

    Destiny 2
    Forza 3 Horizon
    F1 2017
    Fallout 4
    Doom
    Dishonoured 2

Not exactly cheap but that lot ^^^ should keep be me busy for a little while!

I would definitely go for single seater over supercar as you get more laps for your money. I did one up at Knockhill many moons ago it was excellent – not sure if you need a driving license though?

I’d probably second karting. 12 of us did a qually + race thing recently for a stag do and it was incredibly good fun!

Thank you for the responses all. The points made re. goodwill should something big go pop just outside warranty are really important and not something I’d really considered, cheers.

Also – Turns out the £297.50 also includes a pollen filter.. Bargain eh?! Anyway, a bit of negotiating on the phone got the price down to a slightly more palatable £250.. so it’s all booked in at the dealer I bought it from.

To respond on the posts on the previous page, yes 322bhp does tend to shove you down the road at a good rate in a 1 series! There’s an older fella (in his 70’s I think) on Youtube running one with 560bhp 8O

It has methanol injection, some turbo stuff, a heavy handed remap and some sticky wide tyres.. other than that I think it’s stock! (brakes, engine internals, ZF box, etc.)

I do the clay bar > polish > wax thing once a year.. takes a bloody age! Last time I used bilt hamber clay bar as you can just use water as a lubricant but it wasn’t as good as the meguires clay bar and special lubricant IMO. I’ve always followed up wth autoglym super resin polish and then sealed with autoglym liquid wax (not HD the cheaper one) with great results.

The Autoglym aqua wax is worth a go for regular washing. Just spray on after rinsing while still wet and dry as per normal with a microfibre cloth.

First time I clay barred a 5 year old 3 series I couldn’t believe how well it came up. The whole car was like a mirror. Even the owld lady across the road noticed it and said I had the shiniest car in town! :-)

Funny you should mention the car getting a clean.. Me and this particular dealer have previous about them washing my car on account of me being a pure fanny..

It was in about 12 months ago for some warranty work and I explicitly told them NOT to wash my car and they did anyway. There was a couple in the showroom when I picked it up looking rather perplexed as I booted off with them for washing my car!

Nope definitely no service pack on the car from when I purchased. I’ll try a couple of other dealers as well as ATS and see where that gets me.

Good point above re. the extra £150 vs the layout for the car itself. This will be the 1 and only service inside the 3 year warranty as well.

Perhaps I’ll wait another year or two before taking it to the indie.

Not sure if they’ll let me supply the oil. I guess not as this is probably where they’re making the money. I’ve logged a request with ATS for them to quote me a service so will be interesting to see what comes back.

I’ve come across this CBS thing before on the Mrs’ Mini Cooper. I was adamant it needed an oil change but the BMW indie plugged it in and said it wasn’t due but it did need brake fluid doing.. I’m sure the car has some clever algorithm based on mileage/rpm/runtime etc etc.

    nickewen
    Free Member

Some interesting points above. I’ll try that ATS online quote see what it comes back as. Even if I can get them down to £200 it would sit a little better with me.

For info – this is the first service it’s needed and it is a 2 year / 20,000 miles one. Nonetheless, that shouldn’t be an excuse for them to pull your pants down!

I hadn’t considered the fact that I don’t seem to have a hardcopy service log.. cheers for the heads up. I guess the first question is, does my indie even have the gadget for logging the service at all..

I haven’t commuted for a little while by bike due to some close passes and general aggro for having the audacity to want to cycle on a road.

It’s really sad because I love cycling and travelling into a city centre in rush hour is quicker than using my car, free, great for my health and kick starts my day just lovely. But I just can’t be bothered with it at the moment.

Haha re. old people at the cash point! When they get a second card out you know you’re gonna be there a while. A comedian was talking about this once (can’t mind which one) but his comment was “it’s not winner stays on!”

Aye the speeding in supermarket car parks thing boils my piss too especially when people do it across empty bays and not the designated roadways to get ahead of other cars, nobheads the lot of em.

On the topic of contactless there’s 1 cashier at th local spar who tries to take my card and tap it for me.. had a full blown stand off wth her! When she finally presented me with the card machine it was upside down and at a bad angle for light so couldn’t see the amount and when I said I couldn’t see the screen she said “do you not trust me like?!”. Just show me the ******* screen I’ll make payment and be on me way FFS. For the record they manually type in the amount on the card machine as it doesn’t ring thru from till and no I didn’t trust her to do it accurately..
