Intended use is local hacking around the woods type stuff which means no big climbs, all pretty flat stuff.

Pretty sure cassette range is 11-25 but will have to double check that.

I was hoping i might be able to use a Middleburn Uno set-up.

It was Ian Luff that took legal action not the centre owners! Anyone would think the cafe was the major attraction not the actual trails 😯

I’ve been commuting 10 miles each way on a 2011 Genesis Vapour since mid August. I used a mix of green lane, bridleway and field tracks, the bike’s been perfect for that. However, it got way too muddy and the bike was getting in right mess as was i so won’t bother going that way again until the spring time. It’s good fun but became abit of a chore after a while.

I also, at least once a week, take a more cross-country route on my mountain bike but that takes alot longer and is alot more muddy.

Keep serving the same food and keep the portions the same size….nothing to get wrong really. Ian is rarely around whenever i visit anyway so i don’t think he is key to the continued success of the cafe. Yes, he has made it what it is now but the hardwork is done surely.

The Skyline boys will no doubt do a fine job even though they did try to secure the new lease behind Ian’s back a few months ago!

Mind you….will Ian’s mum continue to make the amazing cakes??!!!!!

My last bike had the FIT cartridge (32 Float RL on a 2010 Zesty) and i also didn’t think much of it. It did seem better on the very long and rocky descents i encountered in France (and down Snowdon) but during ‘normal’ riding they didn’t seem anywhere near as good as my open bath RL forks on my hardtail (also Float RL)!

I had the upper crown assembly replaced under warranty due to creaking from the steerer tube/crown interface (actually returned to Mojo because i found the bushing tolerances to be unacceptable!). They said the bushing play was within Fox’s guidelines though. The FIT forks were the ONLY ones i have had with that much play in the bushes, having owned numerous sets over the last few years.

Nothing cheeky about ‘Hearts Bypass’ or ‘Slot cars’. Both are National Trust bridleways but therefore not marked on OS maps as they’re permissive.

Well my Flow/Ardent LUST combo went up with a track pump….in less effort than with ‘proper’ UST rims IME.

Geetee: Just read your post properly. 32.5lbs with CCDB and Fox 36!!! Surely not, one of us has used duff scales i reckon.

I’m not convinced the shop scales are actually calibrated but despite 32lbs sounding alot, it certainly doesn’t feel like it when pedalling.

Redundancy sucks….after twice being made redundant from the furniture industry i applied for several jobs in the cycle industry in Bristol. Bike Bristol were the first i applied too, the day after i left my last job. I must of made a good impression as despite having no retail experience i got a job and absolutely love it!

I think it really makes a big difference how big a shop you work in. There is rarely a dull day in my shop. I have to deal with deliveries, warranty issues and also general shop floor stuff which makes for a busy day. Our shop has 5 mechanics and we still have a 2 week lead time for servicing!!!

Getting a job in a bike shop was the best thing thats happened in my working life! Having a job i actually care about and want to get up for everyday is joy. The money is actually pretty reasonable (for me at least) but that’s very dependant on where you work.

I work in a very busy, city centre shop that has various bonus schemes and other incentives that help us all work together to provide a good service….don’t think it’s all about looking at cool bikes all day, that’s not what sells!!! But if you do love bikes then being surrounded by them all day is good fun, there are other ‘perks’ too by the way 😉

Up Llanberis and down Rangers was how i did it earlier this year. Rode most of the Llanberis path, it was surprisingly easy except two long sections of pushing! Rangers was superb and well worth the effort.

Another option would be to park at the bottom of the Rangers path, climb up as far as Telegraph valley(?) and then up Llanberis and down Rangers or Rhyd Dhu to the bottom.

geetee: I’ll bear that in mind when fitting mine soon….I’ll be using a headset press as i work in a bike shop.

Fitted tyre straight on after putting tape on….no need to faff around with tubes and tyre first.

Tape for UST tyres and rim strips for all other tyres AFAIK.

Stans are wider and lighter than equivilant rims IME. Just come from a Mavic XM819 UST rim to a Flow. The Flow is lighter, easier to lace up, wider and was actually easier to get inflated than the previous rim.

No long term use yet though.

I’m still undecided on these. I wonder what spares supply and reliability will be like? No travel adjust feature isn’t ideal i think, considering the amount of climbing i’ll be doing on my new bike.

Rockshox more reliable??? You’d be amazed how many Rockshox forks we return to Fishers!

This change in design may or may not have anything to do with Pro2 axles snapping with alarming regularity 😉

These are getting VERY hard to resist at that price! Could be perfect for my Helius AM frame.

Waiting impatiently for mine to turn up! Got a pile of bits ready to go and i can’t wait. Price is pretty reasonable considering the quality and attention to detail IMO.

+1 for Hope Pro2 and Flow rims. Simply unbeatable for value but be careful if using with a rear Maxle as the Pro2 axle will almost certainly fail.

I used to think Thomson components were just over-priced bling…but then i started working in a bike shop and was introduced to the world of trade pricing.

I’ve settled on Maxxis 2.35 Ignitor LUST front and 2.25 Ardent LUST rear(2.25 Crossmark LUST rear on the summer).

We too are down to one car but the change isn’t too big a deal as i only bought mine when i took a new job that involved a 100 mile commute everyday, before that we always had one car. The job i started in mid-July now involves a nice 10 mile ride each way and we’ve sold both our cars and bought a van.

The only downside is that i can’t be arsed with week night rides but do take extended routes home when i can be bothered.
