You’ll need to use 1 spacer behind the drive-side BB cup.

Re Badgers Arse: If looking down towards cheddar, which side of the road is the FP? Left or right?

There is one starting on the right, beside the Callow Hill quarry and another starting on the left, just after the Shipham Hill quarry.

The on on the left would appear to bring out virtually opposite the petrol station.

Why stop at wearing a helmet? More common bike injuries are surely ones that could be prevented by wearing full armour?!!

Exaggerated comments always seem to come from people who don’t do the sport in question.

I remember my father teaching me to ski when i was about 3 or 4 (pretty common in europe), never badly hurt myself skiing in 10 years! Started snowboarding at 13, didn’t hurt myself until i was 21 when i broke my wrist. Helmet would have done **** all there!

I always wear a helmet whilst cycling as you are more at the mercy of others (cars etc) than i feel when i’m snowboarding.

People getting carried away are the problem. Freak accidents will always take place, in every part of life.

Where’s badgers arse? and Gorge rock garden?

I’m local to blackdown area(Lulsgate to be precise) but have never bothered with cheddar gorge area.

Looking at OS map right now but can’t work out where Badgers arse might be?!

Velvet bottom is footpath only so late night or early morning i’d say unless you want to take the p*ss.

Santa’s grotto is in Roeberrow warren i think (looks like there if not). Logging has made a right mess of the place though.

Converted my Vanilla R to 15QR lowers and the difference is huge.

So much more precise over off camber roots etc. Just the right level of stiffness.

Used to run a pair of maxle pikes and found them too stiff (and heavy).

    Gotta be Ghetto!

About as cheap as you can get. Mine cost me £15! It can be done cheaper but you’ve got to have bigger things to worry about if you can’t stretch to £15!!!

I think weight savings are minimal with any tubeless system.

Increased grip, no pinch flats and no thorn punctures are the bonuses.

I have just done done a ghetto conversion with Maxxis Minion 2.35 onto a DT E540 rim and it could not have gone smoother. I am very impressed with the results. Running 30psi and so far so good.

JRA recommend Maxxis and from my experience they were spot on.

Just need to wear out my rear Kenda Nevegal and then i can do rear tyre. Don’t fancy going ghetto with Kenda as it has very thin sidewalls.

At £5 a tube/rimstrip, re-doing with a tyre change is hardly the end of world, tyres last me ages.

200g is not far off 0.5lb. I’d not call that minimal TBH

Seeing as i don’t own a Float R with 15QR i can’t say for sure what the weight difference is! It’s probably less, who cares?

IME yes they are less maintenance. Lack of air seals makes them plusher too.

Weight difference is very minimal, 200g perhaps? The feel more than makes up for that. My Fox 32 Vanilla R are great. Set rebound and you’re done.

Take sintered. They seem to last forever! Afan area can be very hard on brakes if its wet.

As long as pads are bedded in properly, you should be alright.

Having tired SSC pads (not going there again) i now bulk buy hope sintered for my my Mini Mono’s. Can’t remember when i changed to the current set. September i think!

I was running Kenda Nevegals but due to the amount of punctures they had recieved i went with Maxxis. Used tyres may require longer to get that initial seal thats all.

Just Riding Along highly recommend Maxxis for tubeless conversions. In my experience, so far, they seem great. They took seconds to seal.

Ghetto conversion could not have been simpler to do.

I have no intention of running pressure that low. I did it to stop thorn punctures and to stop using so many tubes and patches.

Currently running mine at 30psi. Seems perfect for me. Depends on where you ride i suppose.

    Go Ghetto!

Just did a Maxxis Minion 2.35 on a DT E540 rim with no trouble whatsoever. One local test ride, a loop of Brechfa and 4 hours this afternoon and no problems yet.

2 tubes and wheel milk from Just Riding Along for £12. Didn’t need a compressor to seat the beads, track pump was fine.

Why bother with any “normal” tubeless kit?

    Google Mojo Suspension.

The point to leaving it flopped over the edge is so that you only cut off whats not needed.

How do you intend to accuratly measure the inside surface of the rim?!

Just did my first conversion today. Stanley blade worked better than scissors.

Used Maxxis Minions 2.35. Went on so easily i was convinced it would all go pear shaped later on but one test ride later and so far so good.

Went with Just Riding Along Wheelmilk in the end as i was getting the tubes from them also.

Not sure how long it’ll last. Time will tell.

A big adjustable wrench works fine also.

As stated above, torque is minimal.

i run a 2007 with 36/24 set up. The chain kept catching swingarm pivot so i fitted a spacer behind the driveside BB cup and problem sorted.

This should be the same for 08/09 also.

    Thanks guys.

Looks like Maxxis Advantage could be it or just stick with Kenda Nevegals.

Not unique to 5.1 rims. My DT E540 rims are the same. I noticed a strange rattling noise when spinning the wheels in the work stand.

Took tyres, tubes and rim strip off and shook the rim, loads of tiny ball bearing sized bits fell out!! I was able to crush them between my fingers. They appeared to be made from some kind of powder!???

Regarding good riding near Geneva. Portes du Soleil is only an hour or so away by train. Champery and Les Croset are the places to head to. Verbier is pretty close too.

This thread is seriously making me consider going back…

Me too! Going to Zermatt for a 2 week honeymoon in early May. I’m praying enough snow has melted to make it worthwhile bringing bikes. It’s our plan to move there in the next few years.

Switzerland is a fantastic place and anyone with the chance to go should do, not that i’m at all biased!

I can highly recommend Engelberg for biking, some amazing trails there. The only real downside is that many trails get very busy with hikers during the summer. That depends on where you go though.

Ahhhh Valser, thats something else! My family business have several offices/warehouses in the Valais. Brig, Sion etc. My uncle has great difficulty talking with some employees there!

I’m not too familiar with Graubunden, one area i’ve not seen much of.

Sorry Molgrips, shouldn’t have assumed it would be a no-brainer. It would be for me as we have no kids, rent a house and i have my entire family in Switzerland!! You would be surprised how easily you’d pick up the language. Zurich is very international, a friend has just returned from a 6 month placement with Unilever, and loved it. She had no problems with the limited german she knew.

Could you rent the house out? A growing demand i would imagine at the moment. Depends where you live i suppose.

Crouch_Potato – Are you Swiss also or just well travelled?

New version can still be used to carry a waterproof.

Just unzip the flap that covers the reservior filler cap and then you can put jacket underflap and hold secure using the clip thingy!!!

French won’t be much use in German speaking Zurich. If you have the chance to go to Zurich then go!! A no-brainer surely?

By the way Zuri-deutsch is as close to german as you’ll find. Try learning the dialect spoken around Bern, Thats what i speak and when chatting to a guy from Zurich he told me that people from Bern were considered slow?! The swiss version of a west country local!

I should point out that i am Swiss!! So don’t really see this uptightness people talk about.

Good biking around Zurich? There’s loads although the summer season is short as lifts don’t stay open during the autunm. Snow is a problem also.

At the time of converting my 07 32 Vanilla R, colour choice was White or Black. Titanium was on order i think.

Went with white as Vanillas aren’t available after-market in White. Looks abit different.

Fitting would have been free if i had sent them in for a service.

As stated above, lowers are removed for a service anyway.
