Freegan….I'm not 'ragging' Fox. I love their forks, having tried both Pike and Revelations, IMO Fox are superior.

I know Stevo and Iona and they'll be riding all day, 5 days a week for the whole summer so taking the lowers off every 15hrs or so is something they have to consider 🙄

I have no idea what service intervals Lyrics require as i've never owned some!

Losing that commute means i regain 2.5-3 hrs a day and about £200 a month spent on diesel! Not including running costs of the car i had to buy just to get there everday!

This really is a blessing in disguise!

    Clubber….there are hills near Gloucester???

The company in question are about 7 miles south of Yeovil! At least i can say goodbye to the 106 mile round trip every day!!

Only downside to the Fox might be the 15hr wiper seal clean (if that applies to the 36). That would be about twice a week for you guys!!

Whereas on my Zesty it's more like once a month!

I've never heard of NX 6 or Pro e but i do see alot of aerospace jobs in Bristol advertising for Catia experienced people.

Yeah, the company went with Autodesk Inventor which is rather too complicated for designing fitted furniture!

When the software companies came and did their sales pitch, i actually preferred Solidworks.

Edit: I'll leave 'em to it i think….move on i say!

It was only once i bought a Cove Handjob that i found myself unwilling to take out my 5 and instead always grabbing the Cove.

Perhaps the 5 was too similar to the hardtail??? as someone mentioned above. Whereas my new Zesty feels completely different and a total contrast, as it should be!

I've already decided to leave the furniture industry behind but try and use my skills in something else entirely. I've been involved in the industry for 13 years and i think it's reached it's logical conclusion. The furniture industry is fragile and the pay v's skill level ratio is totally at odds with other industries.

    Thanks Project….

Well it's left me feeling pretty stupid to be honest. This year was supposed to get better after 3 funerals in 3 months! Obviously not!

The trails are currently great. I was up there for a couple of hours this afternoon and was pleasently surprised.

From the research i've done so far, it's not looking good 😐

They claim it's for poor performance although there is far more to it than that. I worked as a technical designer for a furniture manufacturer who had just made the switch to 3D software. My two colleagues(who have been with the company years) had recieved their training. I was next in line but they postponed it until my skill level was abit higher. They then decided to advertise for another technical designer. So a new chap started, already experienced in 3D, and a couple of weeks later i'm sacked for poor performance despite being under the impression that i was doing fine and would recieve my training in the near future.

Whilst all this is going on the company has taken some big hits to their profit margins on 4 big projects including losing just under the equivalent of my salary on 2 of the 4 projects!

The whole thing just doesn't seem right to me at all but it would seem they screwed me!

Lapierre Zesty's are not BB30 Bruneep.

    How would the above work?

I can imagine how bad the trails will be if it does rain like previous years! Certain parts will resemble the somme.

6 months use is twice what i got out of the Race Farce BB on my 5!

I'll try the Enduro Forkseals one when my Zesty's BB dies.

Brechfa or Cwm Rheadaer….because they're not trying to replicate 'natural' trails.

That said, Penmachno was great too.

I'm happy to ride my bike full stop but if you're going to make a purpose built trail i prefer mine to have big table tops and stupidly big berms 😆

I've had a couple of dogs get abit aggresive whilst on my bike.

Trouble is i own a dog and therefore know that it's a product of its environment. It's the owner i want to kick in the teeth not the dog.

Never used DC's for MTB but loved them in my skating days…..

I wouldn't discount 5.10's….Mine are approaching a year old and are the only shoes i wear for riding. Use them with Superstar Nano-tech pedals and the soles are showing very little wear. I ride in all conditions, never get cold feet even when wet and they are holding up fine.

    Really?

I bought a 2009 5 Pro back in August which came with XT shifters, they had the covers fitted as did the SLX shifters on my Zesty.

Strange….oh well, you got it sorted.

    And the winner is……….me!

We have no kids, my wife is as hooked on biking as me and i get to ride when i like as i just lost my job!…..Bugger!

No covers??? That's odd as my last two bikes cames with them (Orange 5 and Lapierre Zesty) and the first thing i do is remove the windows so that i can get the brakes set-up for one finger braking.

Yeah…i wouldn't go back to a true single pivot either. I tried it, enjoyed it but found something better. I don't regret owning my 5's and think everyone should at least try one.

Yeah that was point ScottChegg…..The 5 is a great bike for sure.

After owning 2 i decided i wanted something completely different, simple as that.

Like i said….search around and there'll be an example of a frame from any manufacturer failing.

The warranty back-up is important in those cases for sure but i'm not concerned by that thread, interested….yes, concerned….no. You'll always find an instance of a product breaking, unfortuantly the internet can lead to rumours and people often getting facts very wrong.

I'm not aware of any frame failures…..although i'm sure if you search around you'll find an instance of nearly all frames having suffered from a failure.

Brake jack is not that noticeable at all, my previous Marins were far worse IME…..nail on the head there Jambo 😀

As for over-priced…thats rich coming from someone who bought one Hora! Frame only it's about equal to a Santa Cruz Heckler which is far east manufactured in (possibly) larger quantities. Anyway, I loved the 2 Fives i owned and i do believe thats about as good as a single pivot gets.

However, a linkage activated single pivot like my wifes 575 or the horst link (i think) Zesty i now own are that bit better and in the case of my Zesty, has no pedal bob in any gear where as my 5's were both awful in the granny ring and did need constant use of the propedal lever!

I found the new geometery on the 5's that fraction too slack and i rarely found myself using it on local more twisty singletrack but i find the Zesty is great on everything i have ridden so far.

Havn't sold much on here but IME it's usual first dibs to whoever posted first……

Well done Pitduck…you've just gone from churlish to something far worse.

Thats an 'E-type' mount i believe.

It may be worth looking into whether or not Shimano's SLX Dual specific mech is available in the 'E-type' model. Thats a great mech as the cage is shorter as it doesn't need to accomodate a 44 tooth ring.

I appreciate that using your LBS may be impossible for some…especially if you only have one or two.

I was basing my comments on the fact i live just outside Bristol so have at least 10 bike shops to choose from!!! If i need something in a hurry then i'm prepared to pay more if i can find an LBS with said item.

If i'm in no rush then it'll be mail order and hopefully cheaper. In my opinion thats worth a wait of 3 days or so.

However, the fact remains that i buy very little mail order or otherwise. I just never seem to own a bike long enough to buy anything for it! Clothes are probably the one thing i buy the most of and my nearest LBS has a great range of Fox and Race Face which keeps me happy and isn't much more (if at all) than CRC.

Hope that doesn't sound too defensive……

    +1 for M&S contents insurance.

Any one item covered up to £4.5k. We pay around £28 a month for 'Away from home' cover, that includes Europe i think. Considering we have 3 very expensive bikes the price is pretty fair.

That is superb….although i was 9 years old and still rode a BMX when you did that.

Also, the chap second in from left looks like Peter Kay/Brian Potter!

By odd do you mean it's a direct mount mech?

Seeing as double and bash specific chain guides only have the lower roller i would imagine you should be okay. Although if it is a direct mount mech you may not have enough adjustment up/down on it to accomodate a 36 tooth middle ring (if you're not just sticking with the normal 'triple' chainset middle ring)

IIRC CRC are very limited in terms of mail companies what with them being in Ireland. I recall Andy@CRC going into some detail about the lack of options regarding postage.

Having to wait a few days for something you ordered, without even getting off your arse, is pretty reasonable to me.

Stop moaning and get down your LBS instead, if CRC are getting that tiresome 🙄
