    Send it for a service.

Do not take it apart whatever you do! You won't die but when you remove the rebound dial you won't be able to get in again. Not that i've ever done that..no no 😳

    Where are the pads from?

I have read of others who have dicovered their pad material was thicker than the originals.

Where exactly around the shell? From the edges inwards?

I have seen one photo of a single crack in BB. It looked to me as if it might have been caused by the BB bearings being pressed in on the piss, which might cause that.

Mine's fine and that's all that matters.

I like them, even my wife likes them…..and she normally hates these types of drink! It does contain about 60% Dried Milk so i guess that helps it taste better than others?!

We had a free sample with a wiggle order…we'll be getting some more i reckon.

I tell you what Hobo….How about i email you a detailed account of our finances and then i'll leave you to suggest away in which we might buy a house!

And please do not resort to suggesting MTFU! It's pathetic and means nothing.

I have to say that i'm very sceptical of these 50/50 type deals.

Ollie….can you get yourself to Bristol? I have a 514 in Medium you're more than welcome to do a (short) test ride on.

    Email in profile if interested.

Nzcol….I didn't intend to sound like i'm whinging and i wasn't looking for sympathy 🙄 It's just painful to not earn much and feel like we're pissing it away in rent. Don't tell me 'thats life'…i've had some shit to deal with in my time (especially now) so i'm entitled to get down about things from time to time.

Northernstar…As above really, when you don't earn much it would be nice to know that at least what we're paying every month is something we'll get a return on. You're right though, renting is good. We have a lovely cottage with a massive garden, close to some nice riding. Things could alot worse. Thats how i look at most of the time TBH.

Creaking has gone and no cracks either. Hurrah!

That is certainly the bike, well a picture of it at least!

Not sure what the Police can actually do though.

EDIT:….or …agree to pick it up but with a shitload of mates 😈

+1 for that lunch of yours! That sounds alot to me.

I eat little and often during the day and never have dinner after 7pm (only later if i'm doing a night ride).

Breakfast is nothing more than 75g granola and 200g of natural yogurt.

Our previous landlord was most certainly of the 'in it to make money' tyope but he was a nice bloke too. He bought it cheap (for £100k), rented it out for 3 years or so and sold it for £165k in early 2007.

Oddly, after we had moved out it re-appeared on the rental market for the same monthly rent we had been paying, only for prices in the area to drop £20k!! Prices still aren't up to what the purchaser paid 3 years on.

Thanks for that Stevo! I have a big ol' chip on my shoulder regarding owning a house, as you can probably tell!

I get so frustrated and depressed because around us friends and family have bought houses due to living rent-free with parents, financial help from parents or just not having a life for 2 years!

Unfortunantly, none of those options are available to us. Cutting out bikes from are life would probably save us £2.5k max a year, but give us nothing to do at weekends!!!! That and we are very low earners and a huge chunk goes into paying rent we'll never get back.

Oh well, we have our health and a holiday to The White Room to look forward to 8) …..

I reckon prices in this part of the world are pretty stable actually.

How can a lack of 95% mortgages not be a contributing factor?

Doesn't really matter anyway as it simply won't happen for us with 1 income at the moment!

My LBS has some in at £40 each!! He'll do well to shift 'em i think.

    5' 9" here and on a 17.5.

Fox Talas (95-130mm) which i do use but would be happy to run 120 all the time as i reckon thats the best compromise, 130mm is good on longer technical descents but i wouldn't miss the 10mm!. Some Fox F120 is what i would really like on it.

The trouble is the lack of 95% mortgages…….not everyone who borrows 95% is irresponsible. 5 years of paying rent proves we can make the repayments, surely?

Still seems an unattainable dream to us though 🙄

Coffeeking….Just out of interest, how much did you save and how long did it take?

You obviously made sacrifices and fair play to you. Not having kids is the least of our money problems though!

Lucky you Coffeeking….we would love to buy but rent for a reason. It pisses me off something chronic as without a deposit we can't get a mortgage and because we rent we can't save!!!!

The stupid thing is we've been paying rent for 5 years….and many mortgages are less than our rent right now.

How would admitting it's due to cost savings be tripping themselves up?

In 2008 i was made redundant for exactly that reason. Furniture manufacturer with 30 staff and no work. Bye Bye 15 staff!!! Isn't that normally why redundancies are made?

Do you have to use lifts?

Several companies offer 'Backcountry' style weeks in September using Van uplift….but i'm guessing thats not what you're after if Morzine was your preference.

Should get my Formula pads today too i hope.

I havn't gone near Superstar brake pads since i bought some for Avid Juicys about 3 years ago….they were awful and didn't last a ride around Whites Level (but i'm happy to admit i may not have bedded them in properly!).

Willing to try some again as i've been really impressed by the Nano-Tech pedals i bought and i simply can't afford any other brake pads!

+1 for Llangors & Bwlch which i assume is the route Bushwacked linked to. We did this on Sunday and it was great fun with an awesome technical descent and a great long stretch of singletrack too.

The Blorenge route from Llanfoist is great too.

I saw those forks myself and thought they would be perfect for my wife…..until i spotted the G2 sticker. G2 is not 29'er specific, it's just the 2nd version of Gary Fisher's geometery.

CRC really should change the description as the forks are not designed for 'normal' bikes.

What is the difference in offset between 'normal' and 'G2' forks.

EDIT: Doh! Just realised they have a tapered steerer too so definitely no good for me!

    -1 for the Cheltenham branch!

Managed to take 2 hours to swap over bars/stem/seatpost on my new Orange 5 (which came with the Performance pack that i hadn't even ordered)despite being told it would be done straight away. When i got the bike home i discovered that BOTH stem bolts had been stripped!!!!!

Did someone say they have 2 really experienced mechanics 🙄

I don't get the cardboard references in regards to 5.10's. They've been my only riding shoes since July last year and i'm no fair weather rider!

They've had numerous soakings and always dry out on the raditor just fine and have no noticeable wear to the uppers.

That looks great….just what i'm looking forward to riding. Going to have to back off abit if on my own though! Although my wife will be waiting for me the bottom if it does go pear shaped 😯

Nano-tech and 5.10 Lo-impact user here. Superb combo. Been using this combo for almost a year now and the soles are holding up very well indeed.

Edit: Feet First are the people who re-sole shoes in Stealth rubber.

No because you can grind/file off the bent part and still remove from underneath. The 'Grub' screws don't usually have enough left to actually get hold of.

    nickegg

'Thru' pedals are the one to get. At least you can actually replace the pin if it bends or snaps off (by removing from underneath). Any pedal that has 'grub' type screws seems pointless IME.

Well aware of the ban thanks. I like the way people always assume no one else knows about the ban! It'll hopefully play in my favour anyway as there'll fewer people in the way, i hope.

Punctures shouldn't be a problem as i have UST wheels.

I reckon i can crack the climb in less than 2 hours….can't wait to do the Rangers path knowing i don't have to climb back on Telegraph Road.
