What time of year exactly Simon?

I ask as there is no way in hell i’d want to ride that area in June/July/August due to influx of tourists!

I was kind of one of them for my childhood as the family home was nearby.

Seriously though, I can highly recommend Eastern Switzerland (Davos, Lenzerheide, Arosa etc). Was there in 2011 and barely scratched the surface of the riding plus if you stay in rented accomadation in Davos and Arosa then lift tickets are free!!!

    Heading back this September :-)

It’s nothing to do with the pads. I’ve used these brakes for 10 months (with Hope rotors) with no issues like the one you’re describing.

Sounds like contamination to me. There is a known problem with the crimped-on banjo fitting at the caliper which can leak. One of mine did so as did a mate’s XTR ones.

Love my 2012 Alpitude. Actually my second Alpitude. Had an early example but the paint was terrible and eventually sold that to briefly return to a full-sus. Come the time to get another hardtail it was straight back to another Alpitude.

Only complaint is that it won’t take a Reverb…..otherwise i find it faultless.

I always go to the Tarentaise when the lifts aren’t running…don’t need them if you’re on a ‘Backcountry’ week :-) Besides, the lifts down give you access to the best stuff.

My 4th trip coming up on 9th June…..can’t wait.

Can i join the Genesis love-in?!

Here’s my 2012 Alpitude. Absolutely love these frames. Previously had a 2009 frame but sold that on and when i had to go back to one bike for everything i bought a new Alpitude frame. This is a 16.5 which i find perfect for abit of everything from pump tracks to long XC rides. Forks are spaced down to 130mm as i’m currently using hi-rise bars but will revert to 150mm once i sort out a lo-rise bar. Although i’m reluctant to cut the steerer as the XX44 headtube gives such a low stack height i’ll end up with a very short steerer should i sell the forks later on.

I’ve been using Rev’s for about 3 months now….superb. Light, adjustable and stiff (but they’re the 20mm Maxle version). They’re 2010 RLT Ti with the Blackbox damper bought 2nd hand off here.

Fox and RS are pretty evenly matched now that RS do the dual position travel adjust. The old u-turn was a pain really.

We fit these brakes on a weekly basis.

Set the brakes up as normal (centre caliper over rotor etc), set lever horizontal, undo the hose retaining nut, pull out hoses and swap over.

If done carefully then there’ll be no need to bleed. If you have the special funnel to hand then any air can be tapped out the lever using that method.

I had to do this on a Orbea 29er that came with a ‘euro’ set-up.

Storm Control it is then!….going to have to stick to that as i prefer to run a tubeless set-up.

By litter i assume used inner tubes, gel wrappers, water bottles and maybe even some goggle tear-offs are all acceptable things to be left to decay yes?!

The two weeks before my week off see the best weather in months, the week i take off it decides to piss it down….thats about right :(

4th trip to the White Room in Sainte Foy this year but 1st time solo since my wife and i seperated :( although the other 7 guests consist of most of last years group we were with so i kind of know them.

Can’t wait! The trouble i found with quided type accomodation was the frankly ridiculous single occupancy rate i was qouted by a well known Tarentaise based company! The White Room have way more flexible accomodation so don’t sting you just because you’re travelling alone.

I think every year we’ve been there were solo guests and it never made a difference….after all, we’re there to enjoy the same thing so you kind of start off on common ground surely?

+1 for too far. I do a minimum of a 20 mile round trip, more if ride the mtb in and do a night ride. That and being on my feet all day as well as doing test rides (I work as a bike mechanic) left me very tired at the weekends!

I’ve since taken to driving into work on Saturdays so that i can actually be bothered to ride on Sundays.

The single ply tyre is completely different.

The 3C SINGLE PLY EXO casing has the following durometers:
    26×2.50 Minion DHF Foldable 3C 70a/60a/50a EXO Protection 855g

The 3C DUAL PLY casing has the following durometers:
    26×2.50 Minion DHF 3C 70a/42a/40a 2-Ply 1330g

I used the 3C EXO in the Alps last year and they were very good. Ran them tubeless on Flow rims with only one slow puncture in 3 weeks!

My commute is approx. 9-10 miles each way 4 days a week, every week. Exact distance depends on route and whether i take the commuter or MTB.

Saturdays i take the train with a 1/2 hour walk at each end….to give my legs a rest! Allows me to have drink or several after work too.

I’ve done 3 trips to the Alps on 3 different bikes( 2009 Orange 5, 2010 Lapierre Zesty and 2011 Santa Cruz Heckler with Lyrik’s) and looking back i think that 160mm, whilst great at just ploughing through stuff, is too much for just trail riding IMO….it was great in Tignes bike park but that was a one-off.

This year it’ll be a Genesis Alpitude with 150mm Rev’s.

Only one person (Agentdagnamit)in this entire thread has mentioned the riding potential that exists to those able to read an OS map of North Somerset! There are a shedload of challenging bridleways and singletracks, all within easy cycling of LW and AC.

The fact i rarely see another rider says it all really although tyre tracks suggest others do ride on my local trails.

I’m not selling the 4X, no chance. The crazy thing about it is that despite only having only 115mm tavel (which is great for bristol’s new super smooth trails) when you charge through rough stuff it feels like it has way more. Soaks up big hits superbly too with no obvious bottoming out either.

Sorry, that doesn’t help you at all does it?!

Sorry, I’m abit late to this one!

Same height as OP and i’m on a medium with a 70mm stem and Inline post. Find it perfect for abit of everything, from DH uplift days to 4 hour trail rides. Only run 120mm forks at the moment but i managed fine on those at a recent uplift day at Hopton.

On the look out for something travel ajustable though as would prefer a higher front end for more DH days.

I’ve used LUST Ardent/Crossmark/Ignitor on both Crest and Flow rims with no issues whatsoever for 2 years, as well as EXO 3C Minions.

Dodgy one off perhaps? Considering the number made is possible surely?

I’ve had two DHX Air’s (both 5.0’s) and had no issues with either. Don’t see the advantage of them over RP23 though. I bought the first because it was silly cheap and the 2nd has come on a second hand frame i just bought. It seems to do the job but an RP23 is lighter and ,i think, more tuneable to the intended frame.

    Short…a little yes.

High…They have a lower BB than most bikes i’ve come across.

Steep…67.5 degree HA with a 120mm fork is pretty slack even by todays standards!

The name certainly can’t have helped sales….much like Intense’s Slopestyle…an amazing bike but most definitely NOT suitable for slopestyle!!! Look at the bikes those guys use and they all have very short travel, relatively steep and short wheelbases.

I just bought a 4X off Hobnob on here and love it! No idea why SC stopped making it though. I think the TRc may be similar in geometry terms but that’s it! If they brought out an alloy TR then that would be great….they have done with the Tallboy so it’s a possibility i guess.

I love my Blur 4X. There is something just right about it but can’t really put my finger on it! Serves me superbly as an all-rounder. I demo’d an Intense Slopestyle 2 the other day and that too had a similar feel…..could be the VPP suspension?!

    +1 for what Stuartlangwilson said!

That’s exactly what i did recently and i’m not regretting it at all. I have to have one bike to do it all right now. The Blur 4X has been amazing. From local trails to recent DH uplift day at Hopton. v

Needs a travel adjustable fork though as 120mm is fine locally but not enough for DH IMO.

Shame they no longer make the 4X!!!

Well worth doing! I ran a 5th Element on my 2011 Heckler and it was lovely. Didn’t notice any pedal bob on mine.

Will be selling the shock on here soon as i no longer own the Heckler.

Interested in trying it for £70? :D

Email in profile or look out on the classifieds soon.

I had to run an extra spacer behind the BB cup when i switched from a triple to 36/24 set-up on my last 5. With-out that extra spacer, the chain was catching the swingarm.

It messed up the chainline but i couldn’t tell a difference in use.

I work as a Bike Mechanic so my hours are the same as the shop opening hours (9-6) but with an hour for lunch.

Usually leave the house around 7 for my on & off road commute, get to work just after 8, shower, make coffee and relax before we open. Sometimes there are jobs to finish from the day before or we have to book service customers in who have turned up early but otherwise we start working at bang on 9.

Very occasionally we have to work late (6:30-7pm at the latest) if it’s been a particulary hectic day but those occasions are thankfully few and far between.

It’s been lovely all day here in Bristol. Had my first ride out on my new (to me) Blur 4X. Went out for 3 hours, riding the best of the local stuff. Had alot of fun slipping and sliding around in the mud!

    Glorious indeed :D

Mikey: Go under the barrier Sharki mentions and follow the singletrack around the top of the woods, with the long ridge of trees to your right. You’ll pass a gate on your right and then shortly after take the R/H track. You will then see the start of three trails all within a few metres of each other. Take any of them and enjoy the ride!

Those are some of my favourite tracks in the area but there are no doubt loads more i’ve yet to ride!
