Thanks, yes spline 1 and that’s the tape on the back rim. Not punctured the front yet though so I shall have to check. I’m hoping given canyon shipped the bike with tubeless valves they’ll have both rims taped too!

Along the same lines, dtswiss gunk or stans gunk?

How are you putting them on? Not teaching you to suck eggs if you know this, but you’ll never get them to lock if you do it by hand, they’re too stiff.

Put it on the chain but don’t lock it, and bring the link up to the top of the chainline between the cassette and cog. Make sure the link is on properly and lined up, then apply the back brake and stamp the pedal forward, this will secure it in place. You won’t get it off again though without a set of link pliers.

Hope not… I’ve always used SRAM power links on my shimano chains with no issues (10 speed). Just come to fit a new one last night and realised I had none left so ordered a few of the black ones off CRC, assuming the colour would make no difference… :-(

I’d struggle to look past the sub 1K on ones myself, whippet, lurcher and 456 all available for under a grand complete.

It should also come with the office apps installed which are £6.99 each. Basically the equivalent of word, excel, PowerPoint etc etc

They’re free to all users now? I’ve downloaded them on all my Apple stuff for free.[/quote]

Only if you’ve bought a new device – I want them free for OSX as i’ve been using the free ones on new iPad but still have to pay £13.99 a go :-(

Have you called them? I’ve called the twice and spoken to them first time. Don’t think they’re that quick on the emails.

Would be some big winners if they actually made them in gold…. the current sochi medals would scrap in at 25K a piece if they were finegold!

Think you’d probably see a few more of them on ebay if that was the case… ;-)

Wouldn’t trust my lbs with a new set of pikes..

But you won’t spend £15 on the right tool for the job to fit a SFN to a £600 pair of forks… 8O That’s what most LBS’s would charge to do the job!

Honestly, having tried to smack a fair few of them in without the tool, it’s not even worth bothering. Takes a whole 5 seconds with the right tool and it’s straight and easy. I’ve done them without but wouldn’t do it again, the tool makes it that much simpler.

    Wouldn’t personally – I find my C456 best at 120mm, and I love it!

Ahh.. In that case yes pro ride 591.
Got mine from halfords who price matched fordonlineparts for £53 each which I thought was a bargain…

I ignore waterproof shoes, Sealskinz waterproof socks for me. I tend to find I knacker waterproof boots to easily and would rather replace a couple of pairs of £25 socks every year or so than goretex boots you can drop a thorn in on the first ride and ruin.

Just make sure you tuck your tights over them not into the socks or the water just weeps in and puddles in the sock!

Any of them? Just get the thule square bars and footpack and kit for your car.
    Job done.
Unless you have an audi and an orange five, in which case I think it’s the STW thing to get the expensive aero wing bars for that £100 coolness benefit ;-)

    Roofbox.co.uk normally decent on price.

You haven’t got anything to go on with DSR, collecting the goods gives you chance to examine fully. It doesn’t mean you have no rights though, as it simply doesn’t apply to this sale. The only way you could argue otherwise would be if you collected it part assembled or unbuilt in a box, as then you wouldn’t have a fair chance to test it under normal conditions.

Their terms will then be in force, if the receipt states they will give a no quibble guarantee and they’ve told you that originally then that are their terms of business and they will be obliged to do that.

Whether you’ve collected it or not doesn’t matter, as you’re not invoking DSR but trying to make a return under their T&C’s. If you’ve been given the receipt when collecting the goods that states the returns policy that should be enough to claim. If the receipt was given to you via email or something when you first ordered then it might not be as easy. This obviously depends on the wording of the returns policy you’re working on which we’ve not seen. You don’t have any statutory rights to return, but if their usual in-store returns policy gives you increased rights they can’t back out of it.

That’s my understanding of it, i’m not a lawyer but know it pretty well running a retail business with web and shop fronts. It gets pretty complicated when you start involving both sides together.

All said and done though, if you collected it you should have had enough chance to check it all over and make sure it was what you wanted before taking it and then changing your mind afterwards. Would have thought you could come to an agreement with Triton though to upgrade it.

I always ask the seller for proof of purchase or a reference from their LBS, if they refuse or make excuses then start to be suspicious.

I’ve never bought a bike off ebay – but i’ve asked this question a couple of times, once for a bike once for something else and both times got an abusive reply along the lines of ‘are you calling me thieving scum…’

Can’t make my mind up on this one so will drop a message and see what comes back.

For those still troubled with ads, go to you profile page, look for the Premier membership bit and switch them off, enjoy the experience and remember it when your month’s freebie expires

Ahhh….. good man! How much nicer it is without the ads!

*Edit – that’s twice in 2 posts i’ve gone back and altered a grammatical error… Is that what you do when you become P? 8O

99% isopropyl alcohol … Where do I buy this stuff. Been looking for it and found some in Maplin for £15 a litre… Can I get it cheaper?

Ebay. I wish people would stop calling it IPA though… I keep having visions of people wasting a decent ale on their metalwork… ;-)

    Quick search: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-1-LITRE-IPA-ISOPROPYL-ALCOHOL-ISOPROPANOL-LIQUID-99-9-TRIGGER-SPRAY-HEAD-/251257842187?pt=UK_BOI_Medical_Lab_Equipment_Lab_Supplies_ET&hash=item3a80226a0b

If it’s a continuous listing, or a buy it now from someone obviously trading, then you could deem it a business transaction. Look at their history?
If it’s classed as a business transaction then full DSR applies. Obviously if you’ve done the full ebay/paypal dispute thing you’re well out of DSR dates, which could make it trickier. I’d have a word with trading standards or do a bit of googling – if you’ve raised the issue within 7 days you might have somewhere to go, although given it’s an airbed it’s probably not worth it, unless it’s an expensive one.

I wanted the Octavia next, had a good look but it’s got a boot lip.
For me an estate has to have a completely flat load area, no boot lip and enough room to swallow 3 bikes, people and kit.

I’ve got a Focus estate currently and it’s great if a smidge tight 3 up, Mondeo would do all that, both for sub 20k. I’m leaning towards the new Leon estate next, 180bhp diesel with all the toys, no load lip and flat boot floor.

You’d be amazed how few estates can actually do flat load area and no boot lip – my favourite was the Hyundai i40 which I would have had but they ditched the flat load area for the ability to recline the rear seats by 15 degrees. I mean how many people have that on their hit list when shopping for an estate?!

If they can shift ’em you’ll struggle. You might to better to look at finance – they’ll likely make a profit on that to help cut a deal and if you can pay it off straight away with no penalty then that could help you out a bit.

RAM. You can’t upgrade it yourself and it’s the most benefit you’ll see. The 1.3 chip is plenty enough for what it’s designed for and the SSD space is adequate. Unless of course you want to store a massive amount of data on the machine, in which case SSD would be a better upgrade for you, but then you might argue you’re moving away from what the MBA is designed for and the 13″ MBP could be a better bet given travelling with a usb drive will add bulk and power drain when plugged in.

I love mine but i’d like the extra RAM, if I replaced it i’d definitely upgrade that. Given the amount I use the iPad these days i’d probably go MBP next time though.

Hmm duster could be a good shout, let’s go and find some numbers. Edit: That’s some steep angles… how does it descend? Guessing it’s more XC orientated.

    Any more?

Magento and then look at extensions to link in with amazon and ebay. Quick google gives: http://m2epro.com/

There’s not much that you’ll find that will beat magento for the money, you can be up and running with a decent shopfront from about £1000 up done properly, less if you can do stuff yourself, more if you want to go more spangly.

Don’t worry about PCI compliance – if you’re just doing little stuff and outsourcing card details through a 3rd party (I use sagepay & paypal) then compliance is £11.99 a year and 10 minutes to fill in a questionnaire.

I’ve got a couple of shopfronts using this same system, bang me an email if you want any help or recommendations.

Yeah I know there’s loads more to it, just always thought 175 would be where I should be. Ordered a set of 170’s and shall try those out. Sounds like I could even go shorter.. 8O There’s a massive difference in the angles etc (160mm slack full suss compared to 120mm carbon ht). Cheers!

Hi Loco, small hijack if you’re still on here… Can you machine the leg now (without the fabled parts) and if so can it be reinstated to 140mm with new parts afterwards or is it the CSU/lowers that get machined?

I run a couple of clicks LSC, about 75% fast rebound (which I vary between 1/2 to full fast depending where i’m riding) one token and probably a bit more air than i need too, but I like it to stay high. Very rarely come near the bottom of the travel. That’s at approx 85kg no kit.

mine only 3 months old though, so i’m still fettling.

Nomad – I was sceptical and begrudged spending £200 at first but its worth every penny!
Invaluable in winter for me as it means I can clean the bike before sticking it in the car as i can’t clean it at home, and on weekends it’ll happily clean quite a few bikes twice on a single charge – just add water!

Yep – mine came with the normal MMX clamp, but you get with it a little block which takes place of the brake lever if you want to run it independently.

North wales, they have a barbecue hut which is great, you can get a good size group in there and make meat and fire, good size drying room if you take bikes and go carting just up the road.

Not great for a town though, 2 miles from the nearest pub but only 8 from Betws-y-coed if you can taxi it.

The owner Lynda is very helpful.
