I keep skinning my knuckles changing chain rings mid ride.
Can anyone send me a link to a chainring QR system?

Personally I feel you need a light HT for the way up at Llandegla and then at least 8″ of travel for the gnarly descent, so it’s a lot easier if you have 2 bikes and a tame sherpa to carry the other one up for you?

Might get bad press on here, but they’re obviously doing something right, book value from nothing to a million quid in 6 years and 200k to a million quid in the last 2 of those.

He’s pumping money into CNC kit, which can only be a good thing if it brings manufacturing back into the UK. Fair play to him.

Yeah I have plenty – did post about it had a couple of replies but been so flat out at work i’ve not got round to ordering some bottles for it yet!

Done it now so if you want some, 100ml official SRAM 0w30 for £6.95 drop me an email should be able to get them to you middle of next week.

A bit of research I did suggested the sram ow30 oil is fairly specific and it wasn’t reccomended to use engine oil given the additives. Not sure how much is truth or fiction but I imported the proper stuff.

As far as the service goes it’s dead simple, as above all i’d add to dirt bikers post is rather than replace the foam rings each time I take them out, gently remove the old oil from them and resoak in fresh 0w30. Should be good for a couple more lubes that way rather than replacing each time. Grease the dust wipers lightly with stendec fork & pivot grease (from CRC) when reassembling.

Not sure if it’s a bit ott but I look for good spelling, communication and on here a decent chat/bike forum history.
I’ve bought a couple of bits on here, turned a load down as i wasn’t sure. Looking for some 9mm rebas at the moment for a good price and those posted earlier caught my eye but had scam all over them so I didn’t approach the seller – could easily of been legit but I’d rather not risk it. Even if the heavy classified only users are not stealing bits, with the heavy usage some of them have they could easily be moving stuff on that has been stolen.

I’m the same selling though, i have loads of stuff I could sell off around the house but I won’t do unless I know the buyer, too easy to get scammed.

I’d go Llandegla blue or red, the red isn’t too bad – certainly by modern ‘blue’ standards. If you’re brum you could also try getting her out at sandwell valley, that’s very blue with red bits, only a short loop but looping the same thing might be good for her confidence and you don’t need to do a whole day.

Cannock blue is very good if you go exploring. It’s only fireroads on the official route but there is loads of off piste around it – if you spend some time yourself not running the dog/monkey, follow the blue and look at all the mini trails dotted around the hills. Brocton coppice, stepping stones to give you a couple of hints. You could put together a nice little route with a bit of interest.

How deep does it need to be? 8mm here:

I’ma having a similar thing, IS52 seems to be not as ‘standard’ as the name ‘international standard’ implies!

I’ve just got a Nikon J2 to try out as a small DSLR replacement. £179 from Argos dirt cheap really. Leaves change for fun things to do to photograph.

I’m a nikon user though and wanted to try the system out. If I was looking for a do everything first camera a mate’s got the Sony RX100 and it’s a fantastic camera, compact but with the same 1″ size sensor as the 1 system. Good optics and PASM modes for taking things further.

As much as I love getting the proper camera out I struggle these days when small compacts can get the job done so well in most situations.

9106 would be fine for the lights, i’ve used one before on an estate and can’t see any way it would impede the lights on a superb. The only issue would be on cars like the old focus estate etc where the lights are high up.
The 9106 should have the tray resting at the the bottom of the glass line.

You know the 9106 only does 2 bikes though? The 9104 does 3.

Giants specs for the 06 trance list a 1 1/8″ head tube.
    The 07 is definitely a 1 1/8, the 08 went tapered.

There could potentially be a full size head tube on yours but I doubt it. Simple way of doing it is to just measure it up and see what you’ve got. The internal diameter is either going to be 34mm or 44mm, so if you add a could of mm for the head tube you know if the diameter of the head tube is around 38mm you can’t, and if it’s around 48mm you should be able to use the hope H bottom cup.

I’m on about number 3 of the superstar one a couple of posts back, I put them down somewhere every 18 months or so….!

I’ve got a few chain tools one of which ‘pro’ level and I pick up the superstar multi tool every time. I don’t know if it’s just me being a bit of a spanner numpty but I’ve bust a couple of proper chain tools and don’t like the other one to use, but the superstar one is great, on the trail or in the garage.

Paisley freight are the usual recommendation for kayaks, which are a good chunk bigger than bikes. Think it’s normally TNT who actually courier it though.
Last bike I had come in a complete box came via DHL.

Ask them nicely again, then move on if nothing. As Jamie says take the refurb and sell it.

You’ll soon see posts about 2 year EU tech laws etc but you’ll not get anywhere with that with mobile phones, and the cost of pursuing a small claims court settlement would at very best leave you with a new phone and costs of more than the new phone would cost.

UK sale of goods act actually gives a ‘reasonable time’ or up to 6 years to return faulty goods. If it was less than 6 months old it’s easier to prove a fault as the onus is on them to prove it was not faulty at manufacture, you now have to prove it was faulty, but the only real way of playing hardball with them is small claims and you won’t get your costs or time and stress back even if you won – so there’s no real point in going down the legal route.

    Always worth the effort!
A loop of FTD + Monkey is currently 20K so a few closures but not too bad. I’ve been missing out a couple of the monkey sections cos the best bits are diverted, so it’s a bit more if you do those.

If that’s a bit short and you want something to bolt on to it turn right up the fireroad before the last descent on the monkey (marked insidious incline if you don’t know it, with a log block and ‘V’ gate), take the next left going back on yourself, follow the fire track round to the right and the push up pash to stile cop is on your right, go play up there!

Netflix. Has some great shows plus really good original programming, and no adverts!

Never watch terrestrial tv these days. Used to watch bbc news in the morning but even that’s turned into a load of drivel that has no bearing on anyone, interspersed with a bit of self promotion from whichever manufactured pop star is flavour of the month.

Suzanna Reid is the only good thing about it!

How much kayaking have you done? If you’re able to get yourself down grade 3 you’ll find it pretty easy to go to the alps with your local kayak club/ (uni club if you like a bit of rather unsafe drink fuelled carnage. )

Or book yourself on a guided/coached trip. June to mid July you won’t have a problem finding people to go out with.

Check it’s all running through the mech ok, the jockey wheels are narrow wide too and can jump out of sync.
I find mine quite rumbly under load, either putting power down or if it’s muddy, I think this is a lot to do with the narrow wide stuff just being a bit noisier.

    nickdavies

Clean looks and less clutter, no front mech to get caked in crap, more chainring clearance, less cables to clean and lube and nothing to spike you when you impale your leg on the chainring, one lever to worry about and simpler shifting. From a design point of view it does enable different designs without a front mech, some bikes do use this. Short stayed 29’ers for example.

These were the reasons why I went 1×10 years ago. When 1×11 came out I saw it as a way of getting all the above but with a couple of extra bailout gears to protect the old knees. Considering a full group set X01 is now under £500 it’s a bit more stomach able if starting from scratch. There’s no way i’d convert my other bikes to it though when a one up ring does a pretty good job for a lot less.

I’ve never really got 2×10. To me if you’re going to hang a mech off a bike, at least use the 3×10 and have the full range, and as most riding is done in the middle you’ll have a perfect chain line most of the time, and the benefit of top and bottom when you need it. It does look prettier though!

I’ve use 1001 carpet cleaner with good success on both clothes and carpets.
Oily muck from bikes seems to have an attraction to both of them, the stuff’s a godsend especially when all bike maintainence gets done in a rented carpeted flat!

    Caged XT Trail.
You can pick them up for £35-40ish if you hunt about. Currently £50 seems to be about the best though.

The 530’s are the ones that look very similar – these are £25 from on one?

Love mine, hammer it around with absolutely no skill, technique or flair and it’s been ace.
Apart from the headset, that’s a crock of badly sealed crap.

Edit: Although i’ve got the rockshox equipped version – not sure on the quality of the fox components – i think maybe the 34’s got some bad press?

You can still get that bike fax new from cordee for 17 quid. New on ebay for similar money posted I think cordee charge delivery below 25.

Yes the VP book is also good, I’ve got it and rate it, there is a big day out in there around the Berwyn hills, 50k.

If you struggle to find routes then you’ve also got the Mach trails a bit further south which you can buy cheap trail maps for but it’s not way marked, the full loop is a big day out.

This is UCI, British Cycling banned cameras.

The rule has been in for years that only essential equipment for racing is allowed. The have just clarified it for cameras.

I thought this, but Manon Carpenter was wearing one in Cairns… have they backtracked?

I’d leave it – does it really matter the old grass is geting long?
I tried a couple of times to get grass to take on bad bits of garden and struggled – if it’s going i’d be putting up with the longer grass rather than risking ruining the hard work.

You’re allowed 2 out of 3 to be patterned, so if a white shirt and a very fine pinstripe id go with a herringbone or other fine pattern. Purple or red. Gold if you’re feeling flash!

I’m assuming the shirt will be double cuffed and using cuff links?

Would anybody wear a single cuff with a suit?? 8O

I use Conti Rubber Queens in black chilli flavour for the same riding as you, not found anything i like better (now called Trail Kings). 2.2 both ends but might be tempted by a 2.4 front next time.

Just gone to the race sport version which i’ve heard bad things about but i’ve not had a puncture yet, I run them tubed though.

Can’t find anything on here regarding spec. I’ve asked canyon but their response is to sell me a new headset for £50, asked again for technical info but nothing forthcoming yet.

Which type did you go for from superstar – seems type 2 or 4 is IS52/40 which is correct for the frame, but there are slight differences in the specs.

Options seem to be 52mm OD 7mm height 45×45 angles
    51.8mm OD 8mm height 36×45 angles

I can’t work out which is which, the cane creek headset fit tool lists both as options.

    Thanks
