Big stanley toolbox for everything and all the big stuff, then a smaller light 16″ toolbox for all the general stuff which serves for most jobs and goes in the car for biking holidays etc, but goes in the big toolbox if i’m being tidy. Given up with the internal trays, just chuck it all in and then keep all the little bits like bolts, ferrules, brake bits etc in bait boxes.

How big is the garage? Would have thought LED tube lighting would be your best bet – maybe 3x T8’s would do a single garage? 3 5ft tubes 66w, which would give you 16hours light on a 90ah leisure battery I think…?

If you keep it all 12v and don’t need proper power then solar chargers on the roof? Or what about rigging an alternator to a turbo…

I think I prefer Dalbeattie as there seems to be a bit more about it, I liked Ae though but I know lots of people slate it. I pick Dalbeattie of the 2 when I want to have a ride on the way up North but happily do them both if i’m having a few days in the area.

Because we’re British. Let’s have less of that European nonsense in here… We also drive on the right side of the road and serve beer in pints. Imagine asking for 568ml of a pub’s best bitter? Just wouldn’t sound right!

As someone who’s gone ‘out of the front door’ while testing a new pair of forks with a fully uncut steerer – I can safely recommend no more than 5mm spacer on top! I’m convinced one’s still smaller than the other 3 years later..

    Your setup will be fine.

    I’ve got a 70mm on 780’s and a 100mm on 740’s no problems. 6’2.

It’s all par for the course isn’t it?

Recently CRC have not managed to get an order out to me within a week, I’ve given up on on-one for various reasons, another bike shop obviously didn’t want my business (payment up front for out of stock items through an insecure site, anyone?) and was rude enough for me to pay more money somewhere else, and another bike shop told me my wheels would be here last monday – they’re still not.

I like to get anything I can these days from Merlin or Superstar, they’re just about reliable & deliver quickly.

Although Superstar have sent me self destructing brake pads and Merlin sent me a set of friday afternoon forks last week that had been assembled so you couldn’t turn the adjuster properly, so it’s all crap really.

Edit: apologies for the lack of random capitals, correct spelling and vague coherence – rant score 1/10!

Look on here for the £5 off promo code it still works. KSVAZ or something like that?
Then split your order into parcels of £50!

Search on here – there’s loads of threads about it.
Mine don’t do it but I think they’re one of the few that don’t. 5mm of travel sounds more than usual though?

Never found water worked – it’s like chomping a chilli when you assume water will fix it and it makes it worse! Try some aftersun, or maybe some germolene might help a bit?

Sleep on it it’ll stop by the morning and be glad you didn’t used to play rugby with us – deep heat would get passed around the changing room pre game, slapped on just about everywhere then we’d all wait and see who went to the bog having forgotten to wash their hands..

    CUBE Frame from AliExpress

Not really a cube frame though is it? At best it’s a maybe decent frame with cube stickers on and at worst, well…

Not really sure why anyone would buy a fake branded frame tbh – would you not just rather take the punt on one of the chinese frames from the suppliers that have decent feedback on here which are the same money? Especially for the wife! I’ve thought of giving cheap chinese carbon a go – I might risk a punt for myself but i wouldn’t plonk someone else on one!

My Elixir 7 4 pots knock spots off my shimano XT’s & SLX’s in every way, apart from being a bit more difficult to maintain. Mainly in that I need to bleed the avid’s when I change the pads and I don’t always get a good bleed first time.

Shimano i’ve never got a bad bleed and do it less frequently – I’d prefer not to have the extra faff but when they’re working the 7’s are a lot better. Probably a better comparison to saint/zee?

My order turned up today – a week later as usual! Containing lots of nice OEM kit – so it’s going back and ze germans have an order instead for the proper stuff at less money.

The tight barstewards didn’t even give me a discount voucher.. :(

Also do you def know they’re 2011? I’ve got a set of 12’s I bought in ’11 and they are 106ml. I have done the same thing myself thought they were the wrong year and tried to put 123ml in.

I have used a pair of these and have a similar pair of silicon ones somewhere, I find foam ones aren’t any good for gigs these have the hole to let sound in, when I remember to wear them I’d go as far as to say the music sounds better with them in!

Standing away from the speaker isn’t always an option – try The Wanch in HK where they insist on full on stadium gig levels of volume in a room that’s probably 15ft by 15ft with most of that space taken up by the bar and the stage!

Local one-stop doing 3 x 660ml bottles of Peroni for £5, unfortunately they weren’t chilled, the guy behind the counter gave me a tip that if I wrapped the bottles in wet kitchen roll and stuck them in the freezer they’d be chilled in a matter of minutes. Bloody well worked too.

This tip has made my day!

Lock should be fine – the scrotes are unlikely to go after an empty bike rack that’s locked to the car.

Maybe try a rack guard – these are kayak protectors, long piece of cable with a loop one end and a toggle one end. You wrap it round the rack or bikes and chuck the toggle end in the car and close the door. Job done.

I switched to 170 from 175 to try and rectify a knee issue and it made a huge difference. I can now ride more than 20k again!

It’s not the cranks that fixed it its just not aggravating the issue as badly (I should fix the root issue really), but for me it’s a winner. IF you have no issues with 175 I don’t see why you’d bother though?

Why not just drop in one of the OEM knock off’s on ebay?
    I.e. something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ES7086VGB-7-Car-head-unit-DVD-GPS-sat-nav-IPOD-DVR-CanBus-VW-PASSAT-SKODA-SEAT-/131035822608?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1e8257fa10

You’ll find one for the Mk6 golf, it’ll look OEM, sound good, give you the connectivity you want and you’ll get sat nav. They’re not perfect but for less than £200 they’re great value.

They are getting pretty useless! I’ve got an order coming hopefully next week (says dispatched so fingers crossed for monday, but I expect to get it for Christmas)…

If they include a mystery voucher i’ll mail it to you, I am banning myself from bike bit shopping now!

Try logging in first – I’ve had codes before that haven’t got on at checkout but have then worked when logged in, codes from other people too.

Generally speaking you won’t be able to build a bike to the same spec as you can buy it for off the shelf. This is only simple if you find one that’s exactly as you want it. Start changing a few bits and you can quickly be better off building, and check none of the parts are OEM scrimpers.

TBH you’re listing expensive brands and 3K isn’t going to go very far. Money will go further with the likes of Canyon, YT etc but you won’t get a demo. If you stuck to established big brands like Spesh, Giant, maybe Trek then you could possibly demo the new models and then find last years similar geometry in the sales?

Take a look at the Kinesis maxlights?

I’ve ordered a pair so no feedback yet but for a bit less than hopes you get an arch weight wheel with flow size and stiffness. Bit less money too, but you only get 9/15mm front options and spindle QR/142×12 rear, so may or may not be any good.

I was thinking the same as you re. hope arch or flow before I came across these.

Sorted it thanks for the pointers – in the end mole grips were (carefully) used!
They’d used red loctite on the compression bolt – why you’d use red loctite on a 2mm grub bolt that’s supposed to be removed is beyond me.

I used to follow CFH’s post, albeit not quite as nice a sight…

Now it gets done at the end of the ride using a Nomad pressure washer. Low enough in grunt not to damage seals etc if you’re careful. That or I do it on the road or in the carpark at home, either way same kit. Bottle of muc off, towel and brush all fit in the storage compartment on the Nomad so it’s nice and easy.

I have just cleaned the jizz out of 3 tyres in the bath though…

Top bolt refuses to budge! it pushes past the first click and feels like i’m going to break something, i can’t get enough grip to hold the adjuster in my fingers either. The top cap on the Pike comes off easy as pie.

    Colour me unimpressed!

That was my first thought, but I could see a ball bearing and spring shooting across the carpet like the last time I thought i’d clean a pro pedal shock lever!

What size? I’ve got a large 07 stumpy elite 120mm sitting in a box that needs rehoming.
Owes me £175 for new bearings and a a shock service I’d let it go for that, my collection of frames has grown by one, I could do with reducing it by one!

It’s been used once since the full service for 45mins, and is complete with headset.

Careful what you wish for, i moved the company phones from EE to voda earlier this year and it’s been nothing but administrative balls ups & crap service.

I’ve since put complaints in writing and I can’t believe some of what i’ve had to endure on the phone. Some of my favourites are:

“No, sir, we don’t have email you have to call us or write to us” OK, i”l put it in writing. They then call to tell me the letter I sent has been scanned in by their post team and emailed to them, but they can’t read it as the resolution is too low, and could I please email it to the email address they don’t have.

Then I get, “well, we’ve tried to contact you several times to discuss your service issues with you, but have been unable to get through so put the case on hold.” No sh*t sherlock, I wonder why that is!

If you’re used to the long drive get it out of the way and nail it down, I do it in one normally. If you’re not used to long drives then break it up.

I’d say either have a couple of days en route somewhere nice, or find a hotel F1 on the way. Really wouldn’t bother pitching and sorting gear for an overnighter if it’s just breaking the journey up for the 20 euros it costs to get a hotel there. Just don’t pay for breakfast!

What do you want, adventure filled holiday or just deckchair in the med and a weeks sleep? There’s quite a bit you could do on the way down with minimal kit, i.e. bouldering in Fontainebleau, via ferrata/hire a bike in the upper alps, or go down the west coast and go for booze and food?

I get excited when I see 45 mpg in my focus 1.6 TDI that’s supposed to do 70.
Then I remember that i’ve had to do 40mph for 3 hours to get it to 45, and normal service of 70mph @ 35mpg resumes!

Is having an app for it less sad than a spreadsheet?

Yeah, i’d say RC from the frogs and change the inners over would be your best bet, then get the lowers on ebay to recover £100 or so.

Would the RC and air spring drop into a Lyrik fork? If so you could probably get £150 or so for that maybe?

Not sure on going on the drive, but they can go. Depends on car I think.
I took my astra in to the garage just before a long road trip to norway a couple of years ago, just to get bit of a knock from the rear end sorted before the trip, the knock had been occurring for a few months.
Both rear springs were in 2 pieces! 8O Speedbumps are to blame!

Not a big job, only cost me 2 springs plus bout £30 in labour IIRC so hour or so work?
