You’re ahead of the curve. Judging by Peter Sagan and his 100% goggles on the podium and post race interviews at the tour today you’re not the only one thinking about it!

I’m currently eyeing it up as can’t really justify a work scheme as I’m the only cyclist (colleagues see us more as target practice than other road users but hey) but I quite fancy a speedmax. I’m interested also to hear how people got on with the single purchase scheme.

Can she have her phone with her? Would a garmin footpod do that if she did?

Try amazon, bought from there before around £15 for the kit with the limit screws and top lever bolts. I’d recommend the full kit as the main mech bolt can go in your spares kit – I’ve ripped 2 mechs out from the hanger now and the first time I didn’t have a spare bolt so it was a ball ache and had to put a whole new mech on.

Aosta might be a bit trickier logistically with young kids to get to all the good stuff. Awesome for actually doing everything just you’re going to need to drive.

Tignes for family fun. Rough it on the motor home park for free right next to the lac and your smack bang in the middle of everything with loads to do off the town lifts. Judging by all the work last year there might even be a bit more in the way of facilities there this year, they were putting new buildings in hopefully they’re going to have showers and loos and charge a few euros a day for parking the motorhome.

Simpler than that, just create the route you’re doing as a course on connect or whatever course creator you use and set the speed you want.

I use bikehike normally – when you save the course as a file it asks you for the speed you want then I stick that on the garmin. Works perfectly that way.

Still turbo season… smart turbo used as much now as I was in the winter, means I can get some structure to my training rather than just riding. Just need a bigger fan and ride early or late to keep cool!

Definitely go direct mount, wish I’d spent the extra myself it’s definitely not as good with the wheel and turbo tyre.

All you need extra really is a speed/cadence sensor, hr strap and zwift subscription… mine runs on a 10 year old MacBook Air happily.

Mines going to get cheap click vinyl floor tiles. Put them in the kitchen and they were great, easy to lay but garage would be about £400 and I want a cheaper option.

No it’s not a theatre, but I spend more time in there than any other room I the house bar the bedroom and I want it to be a nice place to be. Just gotta plasterboard the ceiling and paint the walls first.

If it’s a proper conversion then you want the offside sliding not the near side, assuming kitchen stuff is going down there. Both mine open but it’s only the offside I use when cooking etc. If I want air on the near side I just open the door. Obviously depends on your layout.

It’s just another thing to leak.

    Tried the facebook group?
There was a very similar post on there a couple of days ago, no idea if it was answered. Its a bit roadie, but probably your best bet for some real world views.

You’ve missed out this year, but take a look at the Swiss epic. Paired riding so may not be what you’re after but worth a peak for the future.

Post/is mounts, what size is on there now and what what adapter is there now? Guessing it’s a modern stumpy you’d need a 160-203 post adapter, but need more info.

Yeah it’s a pretty big one. L’equipe say hip, femur, elbow, ribs, for a femur to break let alone an open fracture you need some major impact and there’s going to be a lot of trauma that goes with that. 8 hour operation to put him back together.

Apparently straight into a wall at 40mph – it’s not going to go well. Don’t think we’ll be seeing him for a while. Hope it all goes well for him.

Perhaps mods should alter the thread title to make it a froome thread, it deserves it I’m sure it’ll be ongoing.

Not the best imo. I’ve been, it pissed down, I crashed lots, beer was expensive. I’d nip back for a day but not a full trip. Some rooty old school lines which I usually love but i didn’t really gel with the place. Oh and the cable cars are terrible. Compared to the modern setups for bikes feels very antiquated.

Course you can. Just define competitive.

I’ve started using all the tech recently, hrm, power, structured training etc and I’m getting quicker faster no doubt. But I’m sure a lot of it is I’ve got it, I’m gonna use it, so I’m riding more. I’m really missing having power meter on the road though, so it makes a difference. To be at the top at elite level you’re going to need it but there are quick riders who are quick without ever touching more than a 20year old tt bike.

Saw an email earlier about our club tt records, the oldest one is 1987 and still standing. They barely had a cycle computer back then.

For an all day xc bike 27.2 is the best post size. Old school maybe but my xc bike is 27.2 i have a dropper and a carbon post for it. Its a lot nicer with the carbon post than my other hardtail if youre bouncing around on it for 100k.

I do sweet spot and tempo sessions with erg mode on zwift find that works really well. As above, strength training helps off the bike and make sure you fuel and hydrate well.

Can you buy one spacer and get some more 3D printed? I’m sure there’s a few guys on here that will do it.

I’d struggle to look past the planetx ones to be honest, I think they’re £15 atm for the enduro ones. Billy bargain.

About the best resort there for family fun.
Loads to do for the whole lot, youve got loads of activities around the lac to do, biking wise kids pump tracks and brilliant green and blues, but theyre long so be prepared to do them in stages and work up. I would say the length and way theyre designed steps them up from morzine – obviously dependent on the kids skill level and age. Easy to get carried away with the speed on them and tire as theyre so long.

Camping isnt great, there are sites in val d,isere and tignes but val will have lots of construction going on as its in town, tignes brevieres is basic and high so it can be cold and wet. Nice big communal room with games etc for when its a bit grey.

Biking is afaik still free this year, staying locally should get you a tignes card for free access to pool etc and some activities.

Personally, id do an apartment there with a family, i dont really rate the camping and its a lot cheaper than winter. Actually thats a lie, i just park the van for free in the car park and try and bum a shower as required but thats probably not an option for you.

    Dont hold your breath.
Was involved in the access to water plans a few years ago and they got momentum and were killed off, can’t see this going any other way tbh. I’ll be amazed if it changes anything.

Even if it did, you’d still have the main issues of aggro to contend with and busy footpaths.

As far as I know, there’s no way of switching maps. One file name, so you’re better off with an sd card for each map – they’re cheap as chips now anyway why would you want to faff renaming each time you want to swap (granted – if you’ve got as many as 6 it would make more sense to have one card).

    Yeah, buy a road bike.
I’ve just come back and I had to do a double take when I saw a hill off the ferry. Ace flat roads though and a biking culture we could learn a thing or two from.
    Oh, and beer!

Saleve for riding on the way but it’s not far enough from the alps to halve the journey.

Have you stayed in a hotel f1 – cheap and simple but they’ve got big gated car parks and you can normally get a room you can see the car from. I’ve left bikes on cars there never had an issue, just lock them up.

Just replace the lower headset – its only a bearing and a crown race.
The tricky bit of that bearing is the inner angle, easily solved by fitting a different race, only tool you would really need is a flat blade screwdriver and a bit of care.

Id fit a cane creek forty personally. Theyre not sealed at all well though as youve found out, strip and regrease them every couple of months.

Might surprise you – my 2011 air has has had a new screen, new clam case and keyboard and I’ve just fitted a new battery to it after the last one decided to swell up – that was a bit scary. The thing refuses to die. They’re built to last.

£300 for a new screen or £100 used – I’d be getting a bit more life out of it.

Youll be fine with the u clamps, ive fitted them to loads of bars no problem as long as you avoid those really wide whisper bars.

The t fittings are a bit easier and neater but ive never bothered, tbh i cant really tell any noise difference once youve got a bike or kayak strapped onto the bars so i just get square ones.

Although as far as I understand it the angular bit is all about loading wear – it shouldn’t itself cause play in the joint I wouldn’t have thought if they are backwards straight away – maybe after a few rides?

Check with the supplier but if you have blue and black seals I would put my money on them being black outward as their probably all coming from the same place.

    nickdavies

Same on my strive – canyon told me they were different so I’ve always used their bearings but I’ve since learned the d stands for ditchung which is German for seal. So 2RS is 2RD – should be exactly the same bearing.

Kinetic bearings do a kit which I know works fine – obviously your kit maybe different but their kit is black seal out not blue seal out.

    Yes youre mad.

What car? Assuming its a nearly new dq200 box, yes theres plenty of problem stories out there but also much much more are fine. Theyre not that bad a box. Problems with a modern car are all expensive, and youre much more likely to have them in a car with 20k more on the clock. Clutches wear – if you get it sorted under warranty why do you think it will go again? I have a manual vw same milieage and im assuming same age as yours with a woeful clutch, guaranteed to cost me about the same money as it would have been to have a dsg from the start. Id stick.

Check the service book for intervals. 4 years sounds reasonable to me for a work van. Unless of course it’s the 2 litre, those aren’t belt driven so he’d be pulling your pants down – but iirc 2006 should be 1.9 belt driven.

Aye, but mine is a works van. I use it for my furniture making business. I couldn’t still do that, insure myself for business and sdp and call it a camper could I?

Course you could – mines insured for business use. Use it happily for work. As long as you get a layout which suits work use too, would assume that would be fairly straightforward with your requirements, if you spent your day moving 8×4 crates around not so much.

The only issue you’d have is if it was a company car – taxation would alter and on a t5 it’s pretty eye watering difference between panel van and ‘car’.

Insuring semi converted campers is a pain. Especially when you want to do a kinda camper with seats/windows etc cos then you can carry more people.

I’d look into a full conversion- you can do it really easily to satisfy DVLA, still keep it flexible for work and you will then get vastly reduced insurance premiums. Small kitchen pod and clever bed system and you’re away. £300 a year on mine – the kombi it used to be would be double that.

Unless they’ve come from a fork specialist who’s done it, do it yourself. Can’t hurt to give them a check even if they are well lubed it’s such a quick job.
