So, having spent a few days playing around, I’ve found the following:
    – Stava can write activities to Apple Health (and therefore to Apple Workouts)
    – However, Strava can’t read activities/workouts from Apple Health

So, if you record activities on the watch using the Apple watch app (workout), you need to use a 3rd party app (RunGap) to get the data out of Health and in to Strava.

If you record activities on the watch using the Strava watch app, it will add these to Apple Health and Apple Workouts automatically.

For now, I’m using Strava on the watch and it appears to be working fine.

    Cheers

Like others, I was with Cornerstone. Their original design worked well – smoothest shave I think I’ve ever had. Their re-designed blades are rubbish.

Coincidentally, Cornerstone switched to their new design at almost exactly the same time Harry’s launched in the UK. And Harry’s look almost identical to the old Cornerstone blades. I strongly suspect Harry’s were supplying Cornerstone on a white-label deal and had an option to cancel it when Harry’s launched in the UK.

    I’ve just ordered Harry’s – looks good.

OK – so I seem to have RunGap working, but I had to buy the £1.99 ‘swag bag’ upgrade to share/push activities from RunGap to Strava. Seems to work though, but I think I have to manually push activities one-by-one – will see if this can be automated…

Have now also updated the settings as per dave3fc’s suggestion so maybe that solves the problem – will let you know.

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks Simon – I’ve given that a go, but it still doesn’t seem to push any data to Strava. Does it work with the free RunGap app, or do you need to buy an updgrade?

Just took the plunge on an Apple Watch. Went for the Series 2, 42mm aluminium – John Lewis had a few left in stock for £299 (reduced from £399, although the new S3 is £369), so I thought it’s worth a try. Currently installing Watch OS4 – will let you know how I get on!

Thanks Jamie – interesting, and helpful. I suspect the Apple Watch will be a good option for me – too many bad experiences of Garmin devices!

Also interested in this. Trying to decide on whether to buy an Apple Watch (S3 or S2 – I don’t need the LTE bit), or a Garmin Fenix 5. I’m sure the Apple will ‘do’ more stuff, but the Garmin has a much longer battery life. However, experiences with previous Garmin watches does put me off somewhat…

    Any experiences of either/both?

If near Paddington/Marble Arch/Lancaster Gate, then try my old local, the Noorjahan II in Sussex Place. Great boozer across the road too (The Victoria).

Yep, I have a set of XTR dual controls on my White 19 ti. Love them too – will be a sad day when I have to drop them… when I eventually upgrade to a bike with probably bigger wheels!

Yep, all the boats hydralic systems (for boards/foils, wing etc) have to be driven by power generated on board, so in theory the ‘cyclors’ should give a significant advantage as they’ll be more hydraulics available (e.g. for ‘pumping’ the top sections of the wing, as has been discussed online somewhere).

For coverage, I think BT Sport have announced they will show it all free-to-air over a free view channel and on Sky and Virgin, without needing a BT Sport subscription. Yay!

    Edit:
Looks like BT are showing some of it free, but not all:

I have a Bish Bash Bosh too. Love it, and love the bright orange colour.
Customer service from PX was actually really good for me – I wanted to swap the step after I received it and they did it no problem.

A friend of mine just got one and preferred the 53 over the 56 – he’s 5’10” but with short arms. I reckon the 56 would be good.

Not a solution for thermostats etc, but I have a security camera from Y-Cam which works really well with 7 days of cloud storage for free. Their full home alarm/camera kit looks great value:

I’ve seen this a few times in the last couple of weeks. My profile is private, as are Flybys (check, they were set to public by default). Bit odd – I’ve unset and reset all my privacy settings to see if it fixes it.

I expect I’ll do the Volvo, but I’ll probably take a ‘no-paid-options’ approach as it levels the fired with others I’m likely to be playing alongside.

Gap now down to 42 miles – Alex has taken off another 15 miles in 3 hours. Getting very interesting – I wonder if Armel has an issue??

This is looking like a more exciting finish than I’d anticipated – amazed that Alex closed the gap by 11 miles in the last 3 hour update. At that rate, he stands a chance – fingers crossed for him!

Also exciting in the virtual fleet:
    – Stapleford Flyer, having been over 1,000 miles ahead of me (Kapow) and Ampthill, is now just 100 miles or so in front.
    – Ampthill and I have been within about 50 miles of each other for the past month – he’s pulled a nice move to the North to re-take the lead which I think he’ll hold until the end, but still only 20 miles between us!

    Exciting finish ahead!

    COME ON ALEX!

One of the guys in my office bought these on Amazon for about £13. He runs with them and reckons they are very good:

@Ampthill and @Rorschach – it’s all a bit close isn’t it! Every time I think I’m getting closer, you manage to eek out a few miles… I suspect catching you, let alone passing, will prove elusive. But I’m still trying!

Anyone tried the Garmin Quatix 3? Looks like it’s based on the Fenix, but with marine/sailing functions (tides, racing times etc)?

    @ampthill – you’re still doing better than me :?

I think I’m now about 300 miles behind – lets see how it goes!

Overcanvassed or not (and I’d agree that was a lot of heel), he’s doing a great job of hanging on to Le Cleach and has now reduced the gap to under 8 miles! That’s close racing after almost 10,000 miles, and another 15,000 to go!

@sharkbait – I’m watching your hitch south with interest, and I see ampthill is doing the same.
I’m tempted to follow, but for now will continue on my current course – be interesting to see where we end up in a couple of days!

Ice exclusion zone. Don’t go below the line!

@ampthill – looks like we are on a collision course – will be very close in the morning!

@ampthill – you can save friends. When you select a boat (either by clicking on it or searching for it), look for the small ‘head-and-shoulders’ profile image at the bottom left. Click that and the boat gets added to your list of friends.

I bought two. I quite like the design, but despite buying the 31mm clamp option it still won’t fit on the bars of one of my bikes. Anyone want to buy one off me – it’s the black one, still in sealed box, £15 posted??

I love mine too – also in bright orange. Bought during one of their discount offers, it was great value and makes a great do-it-all bike.

Oh, and I quite like the graphics

I’ve got a BBB – it’s great fun! It replaced an old Kona Jake the Snake (also in bright orange!). So far no complaints – I find SRAM a bit ‘clunkier’ than Shimano (I have the Force CX1 HRD model), but it’s a fun bike to zip around on – both on road and on the trails and paths locally. I commute on mine including trails around Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common.

If you’re local you are welcome to come and have a look – I’m off the bike with a broken toe at the moment!

@Gotama – if you want to sell, I might be interested, depending on details and value of course. I was in a similar situation when my dad died about 10 years ago, but now have a licence and 3 of his guns. No time to shoot them, for the time being at least, but I’m sure I’ll find the time one day!

Let me know – email in profile.

I was there last week (Saturday night to Tuesday night). It’s best described as ‘mixed’, but I wouldn’t leave the airport to go for an explore at 3am.

I was staying in Makati, which is the business district and feels reasonably safe. There’s some surprisingly ok malls that feel like walking in to Westfields, and decent restaurants in the area (Blackbird was great).

However, central Manila – even in daytime on a Sunday – was pretty depressing and a very uncomfortable experience. I decided to try walking around for 3-4 hours on Sunday afternoon and felt about 6 feet from being mugged for most of that time. Lots of stray dogs, loads of people sleeping on the side of the road, hawkers everywhere. I eventually managed to find a taxi who told me it wasn’t wise to be walking around on my own, and I was glad to leave.

Oh, and yes, the traffic is awful – 90 minutes to travel a mile or two near the airport.

Best to get a good book and stay at the airport!
