So who’s the rider found in a bad way on the Pennine Bridleway near Rochdale today then?

I’m all for proper risk analysis rather than scaremongering. It takes no effort to wear ID, no more than wearing a watch, and costs very little, less than a watch. In an accident it may be invaluable. seems a reasonable trade to me.

    So where is it? Austria?
I thought it was going to be sweaty northerners from the title. Maybe it was. My German isn’t up to much.

Northerners haven’t worn clothing that lurid since the rave scene round Accrington died in about ’89

so, out of all the people saying just put it in a pocket, how many of you have entered a race?

me. your point? oh, that’s right. there isn’t one. -10 internets to you.

it’s inexcusable and I like the banned if caught idea.

in a race less than 2 hours you won’t even have exhausted your glycogen stores and needing a gel FFS

Still, at Mayhem I usually end up with a years supply of inner tubes from Kenda picking up other peoples litter.

disc brakes on tandems are dangerous.

That theory is debunked by practical experience.

After sintering some HS33s on our tandem bringing it to a stop from just 40mph and nearly sailing through a Give Way we went out and got discs (big ones) for ours and it’s the best thing we ever did for it. Never touch them to see how hot they’ve got though. ooyah

I did it on a tandem. but that was back in 2001 so not relevant to today’s track. we bottled the jump at the bottom. quite scary hauling it round the bends at the top and seeing Boxxers twist.

What you have to ask yourself is “at what point am I cycling between Glasgow and Fort William and not actually doing the WHW?”.

I plan on doing it as part of an end-to-end so cycling between Glasgow and Fort William is all I’m doing anyway. Being able to ride a chunk, even if not all, of the WHW would be a nice bonus. TBH even if I started at Tyndrum I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Anyway I’ll be carrying more than that ^^^ though not much; a Viscacha and handlebar harness. No Camelbak ‘cos it’ll just get wearisome over the two weeks I have available.

Did I say carbon already? Can’t wait for Messier-Bugatti-Dowty to get involved…

They are efficient and offer high performance: … maintaining a constant level of efficiency whether hot or cold, at both low and high speeds. Its absorption capacity is between two and three times greater than that of steel, making for substantial savings in material and representing gains in weight.

they are lighter (around four times lighter)

…Carbon/carbon beats all records for endurance, increasing the longevity of the brake discs and lengthening the intervals between replacements.

    My emphasis

Just to say I’ve found the iPad and Apple wireless keyboard is great netbook replacement. There’s less compromise in screen and keyboard size. Use both at a desk for productivity, but on the train I just revert to using on-screen keyboard. And the keyboard pairs up to the iPhone* too, which I admit I’ve only used a handful of times but has been handy.

The increased screen resolution on the new iPad is going to make RDP into remote servers so much more usable too. iPad with iTap is the only non-Windows RDP client I can find for some servers as I can’t find an RDP 7.1 client for my OS X or Ubuntu ‘pooters 🙁

    It’s not just me…

Planning on getting the ferry to Tarbert from there and continuing by road to Tyndrum myself.

Shimano and avid sorted boiling brakes years ago with two very different braking fluid. Magura to have it sorted from word go.

    Ahem. You could boil HS33s.

It was a demo bike, so you’d like to think there was some thought in the choice of components.

    It was his (poor) choice.

You don’t put moped brakes onto a sportsbike – that’s effectively what he did.

If you want thinner depth rotors you need to increase the diameter (see Buell). Small diameter rotors are wrong for lots of reasons such as frame loading, torque required to provide a given decelleration, heat dissipation.
