Newrobdob – you cannot have a civil partnership unless you are gay
I actually didn’t know that. Now that IS daft. Seems like it would suit a lot of people on here much more than a wedding.
newrobdobFree MemberWe were sorry about the compression dent we left in the other car’s front door, just not very sorry.
I don’t condone this personally, but LOL at that statement!
newrobdobFree MemberI couldn’t resist replying to someone having ago at none Christians for getting married and then completely getting their facts wrong.
I didn’t express facts, I gave my opinion. I wasn’t having “a go”.
I know you can get married in other places and it can be non-religious, but the image of a wedding in a church is still the dream for a lot (not all) of people and they go and have a religious wedding where they say things they don’t believe just to have nicer wedding photos in a pretty church.
Which you’ll find is no different to non religious people getting married except there’s no mention of a make believe deity involved.
I didn’t say it was.
newrobdobFree MemberAs a Christian I have no idea why people who aren’t religious get married – just seems an excuse to have a big party to show how much money you are able to spend to most folk. Why not just have a civil partnership instead? That’s all you need to get the legal/financial (if there is any financial ones left) benefits.
Making wedding vows in a church to a God you don’t believe in seems a bit pointless to me.
Making my wedding vows to my wife and God was the most serious commitment I’ve ever made in my life as it mattered to me deeply that I do not ever break those vows.
newrobdobFree MemberPouring over geometry charts,
This is most peoples big mistake. Select a couple of bikes which seem to be suited to the riding you like, try to test ride them if you can (no idea how people are able to do this) but then just buy and ride it and try to enjoy yourself.
I’ve never had much money to buy bikes so I don’t have the luxury of selling on a bike/frame for a loss after a few weeks so I just make sure I get used to it and change my riding slightly to get the best out of if necessary.
newrobdobFree MemberReport to 101. Doesn’t take much time, other people may have done the same and it all adds up to stats which might mean resources are allocated to tackle the issue. You’ve done your bit, reported a problem and can then forget about it.
newrobdobFree MemberAny wood is ok for the structure as long as it’s strong enough, just use anything you can get your hands on cheaply.
Ply is still used as it’s cheap and easily bent to the curvature you need. Make the sides of the ramp with the profile you need (make one and draw round it to make the other side) then brace across with strip timber then attach ply for the ramp surface onto that.
Bear in mind you need different radius curves for different types of sort. Skating tends to need tighter bends, the larger the wheels the gentler the slope. Not a hard and fast rule as it depends on what sort of ramp you are making but it tends to be true.
Good practice to have some sort of metal protection for the top and bottom of ramp to avoid wear to the edges.
Oh, and a kicker? To flat? Is this the 1970’s? ;)
newrobdobFree MemberBucking the trend, Mrs B and the two eldest boatettes have never managed to so much as scuff a phone, let alone lose one. No matter how much alcohol is involved.
My wife is the same, shes never damaged a phone. And her name is Louise too. Make of that what you will.
newrobdobFree MemberI hurled a Nokia
Well we we can all see how you break so many phones then!
I treat my phone exactly how I would like a £6-800 item that be treated – reasonably carefully. I don’t understand why people would expect them to be very durable when the manufacturers don’t really tout them as being such and more importantly experience shows them them not to be.
I went through a few phones before my iPhone 3 and I’ve had every one up to my 7. I’ve never even cracked a screen on a phone never mind smashing one. I’m not super careful and I don’t have a military grade case – sometimes use an Otter box commuter case but now I have a Quadlock case all the time. I mount my phone on my bike, the car dashboard, I take it on all cycling and running adventures and never had a problem with one.
Maybe it’s because I can’t afford to replace my phone – it makes me more careful with it! Some people must spend a fortune every year replacing phones.
newrobdobFree MemberIf you think of the business cost of getting a car back from Malta to the uk its pretty mental! You’d have to fly someone out there, pay them wages and expenses, ferry crossings, toll roads, hotels etc etc. It’d mount up so much it’d be unreal.
newrobdobFree Memberthe seller does have a small responsibility
Not unless he sold you something that he misrepresented/lied about.
newrobdobFree MemberSorry to piggy back onto this but I could do with some help. My wife and I are off to stay on the shore of Loch Awe and I was planning on taking my touring bike (Genesis TDF with 35mm touring tyres) and my wifes Specialized Vita (28mm touring tyres – nothing bigger will fit!). I could do with some help assessing the “gravel” routes.
We are ok on fire/forest roads but not proper off-road – I will be in the bad books for sure if rocky downhills start to crop up. I would take the MTB’s but my wife hasn’t ridden hers for a while and prefers her Vita anyway – she’s ok offroad, but only on the right bike!
The forestry commisions leaflet above looks good but is it for MTB’s? Can’t really figure it out. Looks like a MTB guide. The blue loop from Crinnan looks perfect if it isn’t proper off road.
Any help on some 10-30mile loops in that area would be great – mix of road and forestry roads would be great.
newrobdobFree MemberOn One via Planet X is your first port of call in these situations.
They seem to have a lot of weirdy beardy Nitto bars (were they just bars the factory had bent for a joke?) but nothing stands out.
newrobdobFree MemberAll my cycling life setting up the front mech has been my nemesis.
I’m glad they are gone.
There’s not many things on a bike that are easier to set up in my experience. Bolt it on, attach cable, set limit screws. Done.
newrobdobFree Member
Would fs make decending easier

pretty much the whole point of them!
newrobdobFree MemberManaged to get a place in the end! SE side of Loch Awe, 3 bedroom (sleeps 6!) reallt nice looking place with views over the loch for £436 – they had taken off £109 for a late booking.
Result!
newrobdobFree MemberI’ve had wooden stuff before and it is nice – I would very carefully check the upstairs windows for rot as one of mine was in poor condition with rotten wood even though the downstairs ones were fine – it must have gotten slightly worse weather and maybe the inaccessibility of the window as it was higher up meant they didn’t treat/varnish it as much or at all. It would be very easy for a surveyor to check the downstairs ones and assume the upstairs were the same.
newrobdobFree MemberNewrobdob, £500 is £500. It’s not like my 1 year old and 5 year old are paying their own way. Believe it or not we have less money now than when it was just the two of us!
Sorry i I didn’t mean when you have kids you have more money – the exact opposite! It’s just that there are a lot of 2/3 bedroom houses catering for families. When there is 2 of you you end up paying for that extra space you don’t need. Doesn’t seem to be many that are just for 2 people, and they are rarely cheaper anyway.
newrobdobFree MemberAlso, home bargains? Have you no shame?
Its actually really cheap for quite a lot of things.
newrobdobFree MemberI think it’s difficult for 2 people like us. For a family £500 isn’t so bad but there are very few places that cater for 2 people and they aren’t any cheaper when they are avallable.
newrobdobFree Memberbut heaven forbid they post the update they’ve just written on their own **** forum. Y’know, where the people who use the forum might see it :rolls:
+1 :-D
Maybe if they had to put up with this platform instead they wouldn’t be so nice and level headed.
They have to post it on FB because they keep getting logged out here – durrr.. ;-)
newrobdobFree MemberIt is mind bogglingly difficult to find anywhere as well, there are a million websites showing places to stay, some were designed in the 90’s and not been updated since (like the houses themselves too), the availability options are all over the place too so you have to send off loads of emails.
newrobdobFree MemberJust had a cancellation on ours. West Coast of Wales – 1st week in June other than that we are full until October.
Errrrr. Thanks?
newrobdobFree MemberI was looking at around £450 for 2 people for one week. Always seemed to get somewhere nice for that but I’ve been trawling round the decidedly ropey end of the market the last week. Need a nice comfy bed and lounge, somewhere to put bikes too.
Maybe we shouldn’t have been so nice over the years and made sure we left a place clean before we left it, seems like no one else does if they are having to put prices up so much.
EDIT: I think my wife would rather stay at home than go in a bunkhouse or hostel!
newrobdobFree MemberI’m going to go back and have a look at Wales which is where we normally go. We had a great holiday on Mull last year which wasn’t too badly priced but I think we might have to look elsewhere now.
Been talking to a colleague – we’ve always wanted to go to Barcelona and that might actually be cheaper!
newrobdobFree MemberSorry I’m in Yorkshire.
I promised myself I’d never buy anything from PX ever again, sorry. Hubs are a bit crap too which is what we are trying to get away from with his current wheels.
newrobdobFree MemberI’d respectfully suggest that if you were thinking of being on that 53 mile section of the trail this weekend, that you consider adapting or changing plans.
On the other hand I’d respectfully suggest that if you were thinking of being on that 53 mile section of the trail this weekend, that you go right ahead as you’ve just as much right to be there as anyone else and maybe they should go and race somewhere else more appropriate/less busy.
newrobdobFree MemberI think I’ve had 10-15 credit cards over the last 20 years and I’ve never paid a penny in interest, with cash back deals I’ve probably earnt more interest getting them than the interest on my savings recently. :/
When you get the new card register it then cut it up and throw it away. Don’t thjnk about it, just do it. No point in getting a new account then spend lots on it as “it’s 0%” – you’ll be worse than before. The temptation is very great – I’m normally very sensible but when I got a 0% card for house renovations last year I was so close to buying a new TV because I thought I’d pay it off later – save up!!
if you still have the account you can get a replacement card in 2-3 days if you really need it BUT it’s probably long enough for you to think again about what you were buying anyway.
newrobdobFree Membermassive scrotal trauma
I’m trying not to think, let alone google, what sort of incident would lead to this description of injuries.
newrobdobFree MemberSo no answers then so far
You must have ignored mine then, which eliminates all vibrations from your hammer like fingers.
newrobdobFree MemberDamascus +1
Members of the public would not be expected by a court to be held to the same standards on investigation as law enforcement bodies. If you knew you were being lied to and the only way you could prove it at the time was by recording a telephone call then that would be a reasonable thing for you to do and may well be accepted as evidence.
If I did it in my job without following RIPA I’d not only have my evidence taken out of the case I would probably risk the entire case collapsing and probably losing my job too.
newrobdobFree MemberTrain them properly so they don’t act crazy?
If they are wearing out trenches in the lawn running around they really need more proper exercise though. Any dog bred from a collie will need serious amounts of proper walks, couple of hours a day I’d say. Our springer used to get nearly that and that was only just enough.
newrobdobFree MemberThere’s too many people who earn a fair bit of cash finding ways to duck out of jury duty. Everyone needs to be represented in our justice system, not just the poor and low paid. Just go and do it, take it very seriously – it’s a privilege and it’s something you’ll never forget.
newrobdobFree MemberWhy not just look on gov.uk?
https://www.gov.uk/jury-service
Lose £3k???
So that means she earns £365 a day after tax? So that’s £95k a year AFTER tax?
If that’s the case £3k should be pocket change.
newrobdobFree MemberYes. I do, as do millions of people around the world; but hey, you stay there cocooned in your own, special little world so you don’t infect mine.
WHOOOSH! Missing the point of that post completely.
newrobdobFree MemberBritain is so beautiful, that’s a great picture.
After being injured for 2 years I went out on a bike for 30mins as part of my rehab. Went down a shirt off road bit and felt like I was 15 again as I was just in normal shorts and a t-shirt and Vans with no helmet, in the fading light of a lovely Yorkshire day. Bliss.
