Just had to resort to the chat facility to find out they can’t supply anything I ordered.

They offered me a 10% off voucher which I have no intention of using as if they can’t organise selling a few £5 items I wouldn’t trust them with anything more.

Sounds like a bait and switch operation to me.

    and also used?

Are you saying it has been bought as a used item or you have just used it and it was new when you bought it?

If the former then rights are very different, if the latter is doesn’t matter if you’ve used it if it is faulty – how else would you know its faulty??

No email for me yet, still wondering why I got the refund

I really wanted one of those merino hats too. 🙁

Not if it was constructed poorly! I’m fairly sure building control (and probably planning due to the height) would want to speak to you if you just chucked a balcony up.

Overlooking your neighbours will be the issue for planning permission.

It will be constructed properly with the appropriate permissions. I have already spoken to my neighbours who wouldn’t have a problem with it and loads of houses along the street have one already so there is a strong precedent set already.

The big priced balconies are normally because firms offer a bespoke service designing/manufacturing/installing them. I don’t want a complex one or a designer one and can do a lot of work myself or employ my builder for x days if professional help needed.

None of you have tried pork scratchings, then.

Otherwise known as snacking bacon….. It’s a very very good call sir.

Oh for crying out loud you lot are a bunch of morons.

Quite clearly it’s bacon. Bacon is infinitely satisfying therefore gives infinite happiness. So even if bacon was millions of pounds per rasher it would still win on the value argument.

    😉

toast and butter is a winner.

I expected more from you Ton, I really did. 😉

Bulldog clips are ace as you can hold so much paperwork together with them. Make a clipboard out of any piece of scrap wood, hold small things together when assembling/gluing stuff.

    I don’t like the modern world and I’m only 40. 😉

I’ve got an email from PayPal saying I’ve been refunded £5. I’ve no idea what for (I ordered 2 items) and have had no contact from the shop itself. No idea what’s going on!!!

It sounds like you have quite a few options and getting some solid quotes and design ideas would be the best way to choose?

    Is the garage integral?

I’ve looked round LOTS of houses recently when we were searching for a new place. “Improvements” done solely add value are always crap and it’s obvious why they’ve been done. HOWEVER improvements done to make a house nicer/easier/bigger/useful to live in for the people living there always add value. I know that’s a bit of an odd pair of statements but basically do what makes the house better for you family and as long as your requirements are fairly “normal” then value will be added naturally.

Things which don’t add value are things that only a few people want. So a full workshop probably won’t add much value unless it can obviously be used as a “normal” room too by a possible new owner- i.e. Windows, carpets, heating, normal access to the house.

Personally, and I think this is an increasingly popular opinion, conservatories don’t add value as too many people have bad experiences of them. Adding a properly built extension with lots of windows and skylights is miles better and possibly not much more money. It feels part of the house too.

We looked around a lot of houses with loft conversions. Some were brilliant, the stairs to them were in a place where no room was lost on the first floor (makibg a bedroom into a corridor by putting a staircase in it and calling it a study is a bit pointless!), the room upstairs was light and had decent headroom and you could easily see yourself using it. If it doesn’t feel like a normal room then most people will just see it as a storage or play room and it won’t add loads of value.

In my experience a garden room away from the house won’t add value. It might make a property more attractive to sell but the same house next door would probably go for as much money without one unless the one you build is extremely impressive!!

If I were you I’d have a nice loft conversion done if you can fit an ensuite into it as it’ll be good for you now and when you come to sell the house itll be seen as a “getaway” for the parents or more independence for an older teenager. The added bathroom would be the key if you already had 4 bedrooms though.

If you did this there would still be the possibility of an extension later on and you’d keep the garage space to use yourself.

unbelievably there is a world out there away from the tinterweb.. knock on the door of your local independent fitters they ll happily do deals mine always says he ll beat any price and he does.. . no one makes any money on tyres they are nailed down tight as a drum..

Not my experience, they were all more expensive for the same thing.

Aaah is someone a bit grumpy post festive season?

Not really, just wondering why you keep bragging about the price you paid. The tyres I wanted were not available at the price you paid when I needed them.

I was never charged more than £30 for 7mm tread big brand part worms, £25 for 6mm.

    Good for you. 🙄

    £25 isn’t what I would call expensive

I looked extensively for some partworns in 205/50/r17 to save money, cheapest was £40-50ish each. Same price as the new ones I bought.

I looked into partworns too – expensive for anything branded and therefore about the same price as some new mid budget tyres. I’d rather have new than unknown history tyres any day.

I had some tyres fitted by a local gagrage who were partnered with a few of the online tyre places. I got mine via BlackCircles and when I went to get them fitted the guys there said BlackCircles budget tyres were the best budget ones by a mile, more modern tread pattern and better compounds.

I’d definitely use BC again, I paid £200 fitted for 4 205/50/r17 mid budget tyres

I think they should be lauded! Sensible people taking sensible precautions because “you never know” what th weather will do. Even more so they decided to play it safe and stop where they were and survive rather than plunge over a cliff trying to walk out when they couldn’t see/navigate properly.

We shop at both regularly. The meat in Aldi is very good, as well as things like packaged pizza and ready meals. They also do great European style foods. However they aren’t as cheap as you’d think as their package sizes can be different. They are cheaper for a lot of things though. Their bread is very nice and a good price too.

However I think their fruit and veg is not good. It can be cheap but doesn’t stay fresh very long, noticeable going off/soft/mouldy quicker than the Sainsbury’s stuff bought at the same time and in the same fridge (we share a fridge and we still get fruit and veg from Sains after trying Aldi). Their apples/oranges aren’t great I don’t think. Bananas are the same though. 😉

I think the main reason people spend a lot less in Aldi is lack of selection. Not a bad thing but if you’re the sort of person easily lured into buying premium brands or fancy ingredients (none of us are immune but to varying degrees!) you can end up spending loads at the traditional supermarkets just through having more choice!

A friend of mine changed to shopping at his local co-op as even though the products were way more expensive they saved money as there wasn’t much choice and they didn’t get lured into buying loads of the fancy stuff they used to buy in Sainsbury’s!

The couple who we live with at the moment (while our house is being done up) were bought one last Christmas. Lasted a few weeks before it was consigned to the corner of the utility room never to be used again.

I’m not a coffee snob and drink instant most of the time, occasionally going out for one. I though the pod machine was far too expensive to use and most importantly tasted awful, I preferred the instant!

I reckon it’ll stay around and maybe have a bit of a resurgence to compete with the other wheel sizes.

There’s just too many 26″ bikes still around and many still made for it to be ever completely obsolete.

I’ve just bought a £400 dewalt brushless cordless drill. It’s performance as a hammer drill is actually really really good.

However my £40 Aldi SDS monster kicks sand in its face when it’s brought out for the tough masonry jobs.

When I used to sell these things I already recommended to people on a budget to get a decent make of cordless which is good for screwdriving and light drilling and leave the masonry drilling to a corded drill.

If you’re a tradesman you can’t rely on there always being power available so you need very powerful cordless jobs but a DIYer has more time and normally works on their own house which will normally have power available. Trailing a lead around is ok for the DIY person but is a hassle and potentially unsafe for the professional.

You might ride an ATB but my bike is useless on anything but massive rocks so it’s definitely a MTB!

ATB used to be used for the cheap nasty catalogue bikes so I don’t want that coming back…

Ahem eh OK Pretty in Pink.

I watched Pretty in Pink recently and thought it was rather good. I don’t normally go for the 80’s films too.

I recently watched The Cobbler on netflix. I am no movie buff but I really liked it, so did my wife. I thought Adam Sandler played a really good more serious character and I loved the storyline too. I just looked it up for the reviews and found that it bombed when it came out and was a complete flop! I was genuinely surprised to find that out.

I don’t ever look at reviews or anything before I watch a film – if I enjoy I enjoy and no-one else is going to tell me otherwise!

I can see why they don’t pay, seems appropriate.

I can’t understand why they can park on double yellows if the lines are there for safety/access reasons HOWEVER I think most disabled drivers probably don’t use that option often as I’ve never seen a disabled driver use that right – or at least not noticed it causing a problem anywhere.

So it seems to work as far as I can see.

They may have tested the truck and found it was weighing accurately. If it is then it would be a bizarre act to go and search the landfill when all the evidence suggests he isn’t in there.

At the same time they may have other more promising leads to follow up on.

Surely that food consumption quote is a misprint?? If every person had to hunt and kill and prepare that many birds a day that’s all they would have time for!!

Man alive that place must have been grim in the winter.

The eBay Klein does have a full XTR m900 groupset on it which is worth quite a lot of money on its own.

The paint job would have been several hundreds so it’s a steal at that price.
Klein paint jobs are crazily complex involving several layers of various different paint colours to get the proper original finish. Johnroc on Retrobike is well known for being able to reproduce the paint exactly.

Go see Jedi. Do not pass go, do not collect £200.

Even if you don’t go faster, you’ll be more confident and safer in the speeds you do now, and might avoid crashing in those hair raising situations we all find ourselves in now and again!

Go touring, nice and easy cycling and so satisfying in a completely different way.

Anyone who thinks of giving up cycling due to obstacles in their way I think should have to get permission from Martyn Ashton. If your excuse is good enough for him then its ok to walk away. I would pay good money for a 5 min ride with him, it’d stop me whining and making excuses like I do!

It is very very difficult to search a landfill, but I would have thought if there was a decent chance that he would be in one they would have done it.

Most bins go to an intermediate sorting site first so he would have been found there – unusual to go straight to landfill.

It really is a sad story and one with such helplessness, to just disappear without trace is unusual nowadays.

See here for Curve cantilevers http://www.bikepro.com/products/brakes/brakecanti/curve.shtml

They made them for Kona bikes too but not in purple IIRC.

I think yours are copies. Will probably work as well as any other cantis with the Koolstop pads though.

They look like Curve cantilevers BUT they were widely copied so they might be copies instead.

Didn’t do anything to the leather but the red one in the pics could probably have done with steaming as the red leather was a bit thicker than I’d normally use and was a bit of a pain to get right.

Doesn’t seem to be. I’ve recovered 3 of the BelAirs and they’ve been good underneath.
