You would probably unscrew a threaded headset cup as you turn the bars both ways. Bottom brackets carry a bearing that generally only turns one way and the threads oppose that so your pedalling action tightens the BB. I’d agree that press fit BB’s are cack though!!

Probably not as much power or control in your thumbs as fingers??

Self inflating tyres would need some sort of air source and electrics to control them.

I’d like to see some things step back in time to when things actually worked and were less fragile and crap.

The question is why are you throwing them away, probably better quality than most new doors!

A work friend has a small framed Pinnacle in bright yellow too and that’s a great looking bike, she loves it. They do some really nice looking bikes.

I would have to prise my wife’s Specialized Vita out of her cold dead hands! Only £400 but it’s been amazing, she is 4’11” and we didn’t have to change a thing to make it fit. Saddle, grips, cranks everything perfect.

When things get like that you need to wash the smelly bits but then suck up the dirty water – that’s the key – otherwise the smelly stuff stays put. Do you have a proper carpet shampooer or know someone with one?

I’ve heard that used coffee grounds left on then hoovered up after a few hours can work but never tried it myself.

I would increase leave allowance to reward long service rather than increase in pay.

Haven’t they made pay increases just because you’ve been in a job a certain time illegal now? I might be wrong but it’s like that at my place now and others.

Pop rivet and gun. Fairly cheap. Most garages will have a tool I would have thought.

When we bought our last oven I did a lot of research as we wanted to do a lot of baking. The Neff ovens are known to be very good at keeping an accurate and constant temperature which is essential for baking.
Biggest issue is that you can pay £400 for a Neff oven but people get tempted into all the bells and whistles of £800-1000+ ovens. We looked into it and thought we would never use all the functions you get and the £400 one we got was amazing. It was better for cooking and baking than the £2500 Range master we used for a while at our friends house.

We just bought a £500 Neff oven for our new house, same as the last one but it has one of those slide and hide doors which is really cool!

Bought a £230 70cm Neff gas hob and £220 Neff extractor to match.

We think they are worth the money but they are only mega bucks if you want the mega fancy versions.

I used to use AP but it always felt uncomfortable and wrecked clothes. Haven’t used it for years and just use body spray. I make sure I wear fresh shirts every day and shower every morning. I don’t smell (my wife would be the first to tell me I am sure!) and don’t get sweat patches unless I’m exercising or something.

Ring that number or we wil send Ton round, ok? 😉

I sometimes think I’d be in your position if anything ever happened to my wife. I’m useless around the opposite sex and I have no idea why my wife took an interest in me!! I reckon it’s a pretty common thing for guys so you are not alone. When you’ve lived with someone for 18 years it’s going to be immensely difficult to cope without them when they are gone. It’s probably most of my adult life so it’s pretty frightening thought.

Why does everyone have to own a dog now?

    +1

I just don’t get it. I grew up in a family with a dog which I loved but I still don’t want one. Why on earth would you want to own something that costs a load of money and you have to pick up its still warm faeces? I know some people really like dogs and thats cool but I reckon some just get one because it’s trendy or something.

To the OP. I think using some flats for a while will help. Flats are good and SPD are good but if you can ride both well it’ll improve skills both ways. Why? If you learn to ride flats (e.g. Bunny hops, jumps, corners etc) then you can use SPD pedals with platforms much better – i.e. You won’t be dependant on being clipped in to handle the bike with confidence. You’ll also be able to do stuff clipped in more naturally – flats help with doing things the right way rather than using the fact you are clipped in the move the bike up and around. Then when back in clips the panic when unclipped might be reduced.

Or she could just ride flats. I decided against it, if you ride flats you have to wear shin pads, or scrape up your calves/shins.

You don’t have to wear pads. If you’re scraping your shins you are doing it wrong!

If you wear pads you have to wear baggies, which also slow you down.

What sort of clown shorts are you wearing that slow you down??

And I could never get used to having to push down on the pedals to stay on.

Again, you’re doing it wrong if you are having to push down.

With enginereed wood floor the actual wood isn’t very thick, might only be 2-3mm so tread carefully. I got some really expensive engineered stuff cheaply and that still only has a 6mm real wood layer.

Personally if it was me I’d use a random orbital sander, £45 from B&Q and attach my Hoover to it so the house didn’t fill with dust. If it isn’t a huge area it won’t take long. Random orbital sanders don’t leave sanding marks like belt sanders (unless you are really stupid) and the discs are very cheap.

A floor drum sander might wreck the floor and for a hallway might be very difficult to use anyway as they are pretty bulky.

Just got the new drill delivered to me yesterday. Can’t believe they sent me a whole brand new one.

Anyone want to buy a drill? 😉

    Why ?

You said in the OP you wanted “repair or replace”

    It’s only been four days.

    I wanted a refund really but I know I couldn’t demand one.

Will spur off external lights for side door of house.

Errr no. Can’t run a power circuit off a lighting circuit.

Doing it properly won’t cost much more than bodging an unsafe job.

Update – I am being sent a brand new drill. Not unhappy with this but a bit bemused. Why? I know the cost price of this drill probably isn’t loads but surely supplying 2 to me, including posting this second one to my house, is going to cost way more than the £40 I originally paid for it. The package will be be very very heavy!

Anyone want to buy a brand new SDS drill?? I bought a Makita to replace it!!

Just do a chargeback on your card or paypal dispute. Easy.

Also, you can easily buy “show” plates on eBay which fulfill all the requirements of a legal plate with no documents needed. That’s what I ordered my Ford bike rack and same for the new plates on my Volvo which passed an MOT perfectly ok.

Update! Got a bloke round (SOS Drainage Services) who when I spoke on the phone to him, he asked a few technical questions which put me at ease. I then asked the price – £80 for an hour. I asked if it sometime took longer than than as I was worried about escalating costs and he said “well if I can’t get it done in an hour it’s a bit of a poor do isn’t it?” – proper Yorkshire answer!!

Middle aged guy, slightly older van but had all the gear. True to his word it was sorted out in pretty much one hour but he did have to break out a lot of his gear to shift it and it took some head scratching via CCTV on how to move the jammed brick. He finished off by jetting my whole system to the road as he said it was blocked up a bit. £80 and no extra for CCTV usage etc.

Proper service from an old school professional. Will use again if I need to.

I’ve been to pretty much every West Yorks bike shop multiple times and the successful ones don’t have the negatives you have listed. The sad thing is that nearly all those negatives can be fixed for free.

I’ve seen big shops such as All Terrain grow bigger as they are neat and tidy, everything priced, staff are nice and honest with you. Same can be found with smaller shops too, there’s a couple I can think of who maybe can’t stock as much but are helpful, have well presented shops and will admit when they can’t help you. In those sorts of shops you’ll often be happy paying more or maybe buying something different than what you came in for.

I’ve been in shops (multiple ones!) where the owner or assistant has been openly rude to me, rubbished my bike and told me lies about various things. I often stand around and listen in on how they speak to other customers (especially youngsters and mums and dads who are real novices) and have been close to interrupting when I’ve been shocked at how they have been advised or spoken to. Never done it yet.

Sorry I meant consumer rights act nowadays…

One thing I did complain about in store was that the helpline I had to ring was 10p a minute on a landline. On a mobile it would be a lot more so I asked them to ring it for me (if I was on phone a long time I might end up with a phone bill more expensive than the drill was!). They then gave me a freephone number to use instead – clearly they are trying to make money off people who have faulty goods which is a bit sneaky.

Going to ring that this morning.

What tanking material did you use? Have you got a sump for the water running down behind the tanking?

    Looks well done.

“That price is per-person. There were five of us. How much did going in term time save?”

A skiing trip to France? Not exactly a necessary thing to do is it? Sorry absolutely no sympathy from me. Suck it up princess.

Look I am sorry you’ve got kids. But that’s your choice. The increased cost during their holidays is something that’s been around for decades so it shouldn’t be surprised. You could just as easily rent a lovely cottage in the U.K. for the cost of one of your family to go on the skiing trip. And then you could have precious family time together AND save even more money AND your kids will have 100% of their very precious education.

“Not sure why you think I’d be lying.”

I worked in retail for 12 years, my wife did the same. I had to book all my holidays off between 14-16 MONTHS in advance. No time allowed off at bank holidays or November/December so you can imagine how crowded the rest of the available spots were. But we always managed to get 4 weeks off together.

Are you saying you can never get any time off at all during your kids holidays? Not buying that.

    newrobdob

Or they want some time with the family

Which can easily be done in the school holidays for minimal cost.

What none of you will admit is that you could have a perfectly good cheap family holiday in your kids holiday periods – but not to the fancy places you feel you have to go to to keep up with the Joneses.

    newrobdob

It’s not as if this is a new thing, holidays have always been more expensive around kids holidays. Kids holidays are going to be more anyway as they are based around public holidays and the best weather.

If you can save £3k by going in term time then you must be going on some seriously fancy holidays – no sympathy from me -sorry!

    newrobdob

some people don’t want to get shafted by 300% price increases.

Wrong, they just want to make sure they get bragging rights over the Joneses about the fancy holiday they went in, just the same as buying their new Audi helped in the driveway wars.

Screw the kids education, they just want to show off.

So if you faced a £60 fine for speeding on the motorway but not speeding would result in you paying £3000 extra for exactly the same journey then what would you do?

Poor analogy – you don’t have to go on holiday so you can choose not to pay the £3000 extra.

    newrobdob

Spot on, so much red tape and stupid rules are there because a few take the piss which then negatively impacts the minority or those really in need

    No one needs a holiday.

    newrobdob

It’s not been mentioned yet but the dad in the case actually has three children. Two were on half term at the time the holiday was taken, the one that had unauthorised absence goes to a different school and had a half term week that did not coincide with the other two children.

    How does he manage that?

Maybe go on hols at a different time? It’s not hard to figure out.

It’s only one drain rod from the nearest upstream opening, but a very very long way from the deep one downstream.

Tried all sorts but it would budge. So close I could take a pic but it’s a bit disgusting to show I think.
