I used to sell lawnmowers (large DIY chain, I used to deal with all the faulty stuff/returns etc).

I wouldn’t touch anything made by Flymo with a bargepole.
I wouldn’t touch a cheap petrol mower (less than maybe £300) unless I really had no power available.
    I wouldn’t have a battery lawnmower.

I bought a Bosch Rotak, because they were never returned faulty. Over the course of a summer season I’d maybe get 100+ Flymos returned faulty, all the people who brought them back said they’d never touch one again.

My wife always smells amazing, even after long bike rides or walks or going to the gym. I have no idea how she does it, I will never complain of course but I have no idea what she sees in me who smells like a drain 5min after getting out of the shower.

Chemicals would not have dissolved the half brick I had wedged in my sewer pipe!!!

I bought some drain rods, bits and bobs to unblock my drains once. All crap, got filthy and annoyed andin the paid a professional £80 to sort it out, used CCTV, diesel powered jetting tools etc, took an hour. Not going to bother trying again myself.

Run away, preferably in a zig zag pattern, and don’t look back.

Unfortunately saying anything will be bad, and saying nothing will be bad. You have lost.

Oh my word, that’s horrific, looks more like CGI in a disaster film. Some very distressing stories about people being trapped by smoke/on the roof etc.

To be honest it’s buyer beware really here. If you had to scrape off paint to find out the damage why would you think the seller would have noticed themselves??

Second hand private sale, you had chance to inspect there and then. eBay might side with you in the end but in all honesty I don’t think they should.

Nice job on getting Paul Components V-brakes in 2 colours to match the bit of bike they are attached to.

They are I think the only v-brake you can use 700c wheels with a 26″ frame as the pad mounting hardware can slide up and down the arms all the way.

I am currently camping as I type.

    Wish I wasn’t. 🙁

The HS66 brakes are legendary and reasonably rare. Exactly the same as HS33 flat bar brakes. As far as I know they use all the same spares as the HS33 as the calliper end is the same. So maybe pack a spare olive or barb and some spare pads – they are all cheap and lightweight so easy to carry.

The place where I work has some of the most extreme bowel emptiers I have ever heard.
After hearing a sprint to a cubicle whilst sat in mine, followed by what I can only describe as a sound akin to someone throwing a box of shoes out of a loft hatch, there is often a loud gasp of relief which I have been tempted to reply with a jaunty “do you need me to call a doctor”.

Reminds me of a story my wife told me. She works in MandS and a guy, dressed in a nice smart suit, fancy business type bloke, came up to the paydesk after being in the changing rooms. He opened his briefcase and handed over a pair of HEAVILY soiled pants with the request “can you put these in the bin please”.

Ton – while you have great experience of a few bikes and lots of touring I think you are probably at the extreme end of what bikes have to cope with – tall/big etc and with added loads even the strongest bikes are at their limit somewhat. A bike you might have found a little flexy might be fine with a smaller lighter person (e.g most other people!).

Hope you like the TDF, me and my brother both like ours.

My TDF is fine loaded up. I’ve not put huge weights on but with 2 full large rear panniers on I’ve gotten out of the saddle and done a little spring and it feels fine and could take more.

End of a recent tour, propped up outside the Tesco at Aviemore after doing 130miles of the Lochs and Glens route (amazing!).

Set up perfectly for me. I converted to flat bars, after a few different ones I found my dream combo, a Hope 25.4mm stem and matching 17 degree Salsa Moto bars (no longer made so a real chore finding some)

Also Paul Components shifter converters to run 9sp Dura Ace bar end shifters as thumbshifters. Got some touring spec Deore hydraulics (longer levers) and Portland Design works stitched ergo Italian leather grips (no need for gloves!).

Hand recovered Bel Air saddle in proper leather, DMR magnesium flat pedals, Exposure Dynamo hub with a full B&M lighting system with rear brake light too and USB charging for my phone. My brother (Peterpoddy) built the hub up with Mavic xm319 rins with an ultra reliable XT rear hub.

Tyres are Victoria Hyper Voyager Kevlar tyres in 35c size, no tread on them but they grip very well pretty much everywhere, don’t puncture and are light too.

All the gearing is as bought, Alivio cranks and mechs, work superbly.

Lovely lovely lovely!!!! I really love it!!

So your school was proactive in protecting your child’s safety in a way which didn’t upset them or scare them and you have a problem why?

Get over yourself and ring the school and thank them for looking after your kid so well.

Chewkw – sorry that doesn’t stand up on its own when it gets slightly windy or the ground is uneven. They are crap on their own and need fixing to upright fence posts or simlar.

I know as my shop used to sell them!!

    newrobdob

Cougar, that’s a bit picky of my post isn’t it?? 🙄 We meant the same thing.

Problem is here is how you were sold it. Lots of things in DIY stores have multiple purposes, so it really depends on how you asked for something as to whether it was fit for purpose. It may have been fit for the purpose you described in the shop but not for the purpose you actually wanted it for.

    Situation 1.
“I need something to go round my bin to hide it”
“Lots of people buy these as a screen, maybe that will be ok?”
“Ok no problem, I’ll buy it”

No comeback in that case. I’ve sold quite a few of those rolled up or sectionals bits of twigs or whatever they are. I would have guessed that someone would be attaching it between 2 solid posts or anchor points, seen that done a lot.

    Situation 2
“Hi I need something to hide my bins that is free standing and is like this picture please”
“This is the same thing, it’ll be great”
    “Ok I’ll buy it”

In that case it’s mis-sold. But how do you prove it? Surely there was a description on the packet and it could easily be seen what it is?

“Fit for purpose” and “as described” are all well and good but quoting them in a shop, while you are within your rights to, makes you look like a numpty. It’s easy to fight that corner when you have a description on an internet page but during a customer conversation it’s often the customer who doesn’t describe what they really want properly and the stafff who have to struggle to meet their needs when the customer themselves doesn’t really have a clue themselves.

This forum is all well and good at demanding rights but to be honest most customers are complete morons and it’s like getting blood out of a stone when you serve someone. Most people think the retail maxim should be “the customer is always right” but when you work in retail it’s always quoted as “the customer is always confused”.

You’ve bought a product that has many uses, it could have been used for the purpose you needed but it wasn’t the complete solution you were after. The intricacies of the conversation you had are the key.

Saying that though, it is still ultra bizarre he took the product and kept your money. Totally wrong!!

Ahhh ok well that’s different. I wrote my first reply and didn’t catch that bit first time round.

    It’s a bit of a weird one.

I have no idea why you walked out without either the product or the refund. Why did you do that? You’re in a sticky position now as Its his word against yours now m that he now has the product. You’re going to have to go in and demand a refund and stay there until you get it. The tactic of putting off all incoming customers often works very well! I don’t know if this constitutes theft (or similar) now? Maybe stand there and make a fuss and threaten to call police if he gets a bit shirty??

    newrobdob

Yes but did he keep the product???? That’s how your OP reads.

    newrobdob
    Free Member

You don’t have any right to a refund if there is nothing wrong with the product and it wasn’t mis-sold.

Coming from my own experience from running a garden centre I know those products are completely impossible to repackage. And if they aren’t packaged perfectly as per how the manufacturers did it you can never re sell them at the normal price. People will just always select the unopened one.

It’s up to the company whether they offer a refund if unwanted policy, maybe this person doesn’t or they have a strict policy of only accepting it back if returned exactly as someone bought it so they can re sell at full price.

EDIT – did the retailer take the product off you and keep it but refuse the refund?

…… the rest is being paid for by the council.

Paid for eventually by local residents in increased bills.

Thanks very much “Football”. Sport of the people? Don’t think so.

If I owned a retail place that sufferered financially from that event I’d be kicking up a huge fuss and sueing for loss of earnings for whoever was responsible.

Totally with the OP, it’s over the top and ridiculous and no thought is ever made for the people and businesses their game will have a negative effect on.

The sooner the football business falls on its face and suffers some huge problems which bring the big money game to its knees the better. Nothing against the game itself, but the money has corrupted it way past any measure of reasonableness.

And of course many like me will be shouted down and pushed aside because “everyone likes football don’t they”?!?

Have you bought it unfinished? I would say Osmo oil but it depends if it’s been finished in something else first to determine whether it’s suitable.

The red pro ones are worth the extra, the industrial ones less so for the home user.
Probably better to have a think about what you want to store first before you buy. I am thinking that the deep drawers won’t be much use to me so I might buy 2 of the top boxes.

Unless someone has built a nuclear power plant next door or it’s actually on fire I doubt it’s dropped 25%.
