    vinnyeh – nice, is that a 940?

    Yes.

More importantly, is it for sale?

Not yet it isn’t, still in process of making it go faster than anything that unaerodynamic has any right to. 😉

    You sound jealous OP.

Not really. Managed to wind a few sensitive types up which is always fun.

In all seriousness I wouldn’t touch a VW van if it was my money, I know quite a few people who have owned them for both personal and business purposes and none of them would buy one again due to very poor reliability. Most of them now have Transits.

Was fun in the snow, rear wheel drive/auto/turbo

Yup. Mines fun in the dry too now. 😆

I think you protest too much…

That’s my other car….. the fun one. 😉

Calderdale (HD6) here, group ride + chinwag every Monday night if anyone needs it. Grumpy northern sod(s) blessed with a high “talking bollocks” tolerance!

Is that Brighouse? Looking for folk to ride with in HD5 but that’s other side of Hudds. Currently have knackered legs and want to get out but would be seriously slow.

I’m sure all the owners are really happy for their number plates to have been advertised as being on an expensive* bike carrying vehicle

Oooh sorry, yes you’re right. Cos NO ONE else saw them in public that and they were all transported there in a sealed trailer. 🙄

Now ANYONE can find out the cars TAX STATUS and MOT history. Call the cops!! 🙄 😆

there are many more types of cars other than the ones the OP is jealous of in the car park.

Don’t worry sunshine, my Winnebago was parked elsewhere. 😆

OP has serious insecurity / underachievement / reverse snobbery issues.

    Patagonia jacket Shirley though?

I really wasn’t sure what the “on trend” brand was amongst IT consultants, my apologies. “goes off to change amazon wish list”

Yet again this proves that bikes = awesome.

The first two don’t gains/maintain a position by doing so

They do if the person doing the overtake overspeeds into the corner to gain the place knowing he can swing wide out of track limits to keep that speed going to hold the place.

My Dave Lloyd. Probably doesn’t count as he didn’t make many bikes and was really a road builder.

Super super sweet framesets though. Super light and amazing to ride.

Haro used to be proper cool back in the 90’s.

My 1991 Haro Extreme – they had 31.8mm bars and stem back then!! Bought this NOS not so long ago.

Thing is, some of the major manufacturers had some proper ropey looking bikes as far as tubing and construction quality goes, so poor quality may not mean a crap make!

Just noticed forks have AD mounts on them but can’t see them on the frame. Probably not original forks.

The head tube logo might be key to be honest, have you got a pic?

Definitely earlier “mid school” as it has calipers not AD990 mounts. A lot of companies have made similar looking frames with the seat stays forming a platform on the back of the top tube. GT performer and Standard Shorty/Lengthy were the best of them but there were a few copies. Doesn’t look early enough for 80’s IMHO

I assume the £2k quote includes gold plating and diamond encrusting the parts needed?

If I won the euromillions I would love to buy that, then at the auction house after I transferred the money, rip off all the dust covers on the interior while the engine warmed up, then leave some very very very long number 11’s across the car park as it enjoyed its first ever mile on its odometer…. #happycar

Bangernonics is pointless if you’re just using a garage to do everything. I would get the garage to change the oil and filter for you if MOT is ok, then do rest of servicing yourself. The parts are very cheap and if you can build a bike you can service a car, including changing brakes etc. It’s really easy. You only need a basic socket set to do it all.

It’s not a proper volvo if it doesn’t look like a brick. Bonus marks for rwd and having a turbo shoved into it

    3 ticks here!!

    I love mine.

Northwind I fully concur that there is a time and a place for Turbobricks (that time would be already and that place would be my drive, if there was space and money and no gf to appease).

The car above is technically my wife’s car. She loves it!

Money? Car above cost less than a half decent pair of suspension forks.

    It is NOT slow.

So basically they made bikes that were either overpriced tat or no better than well established and respected brands then blame Brexit rsther than admit it was just a crap business plan?

I worked in Homebase until 8 years ago and we still sold wood chip when I left. Bonkers.

You can buy smooth paper now that reinforces the wall which is much better so it’s days are numbered. Maybe in 50/60 years it will all be gone.

Nuclear holocaust wouldn’t touch it though. 😉

I like the car but we seem to have had a lot of issues with it. Stupid little things which seem to be both expensive to repair and easily avoidable by considered design.

To be fair thats the same with most modern cars, no matter what the brand. Still get the same thing with German/VAG cars but their parts are very expensive, you may as well go Ford/Vauxhall as at least their parts are cheap!

    newrobdob

you need to check if it is an interference engine or not if it is when the timing belt snaps the pistons hit things and that is an expensive repair as the engine is damaged.

if not it just changing the belts and cheaper as its just fix the belts

websites let you check this but need exact engine to google

Most engines are interference now. I think my Volvo 940 was the last Volvo to have a non-interference engine….mmmmmm red block…

Good forum to join, helpful folk on there, would be worth asking on there too.

On the Volvo Owners club website there is a bloke selling a “guard” which stops a particular aux belt taking out the timing belt if it fails. Can’t remember what engine it is to be honest but it sounds like a similar issue to what you have.

You might be lucky with no valve damage, engines don’t get wrecked every time a timing belt goes but it would still be a few hundred quid to fix if you were that lucky.

2nd hand engine probably cheaper if all the valves have been mashed.

Binners – I’ve seen a white van man do the same sort of thing too – quite heartening.

I only passed my driving test 10 years ago and was taught just to keep slowing down if someone was tailgating me really badly. I’ve managed to do 15mph sometimes and they still do it.

The Elland bypass going towards Halifax has a “filter in turn” thing as the end of the dual carriageway. Most people do just that but I was on it once and a guy tried pushing in front of me out of turn. There would be zero advantage to this as all he would be is one car ahead in a very long line. What he didn’t count on was that my Volvo 940 estate is built like a tank with huge bumpers and a slight mark on my bumper rubber would mean thousands of pounds of damage to his new SUV thing – he eventually realised and backed off when our bodywork was 5mm apart from each other.

The survey assumes the entrant has a folding bike already which limits it a bit.
Price bands are way off reality, unless you are going for Uber budget BSO folding bikes – asking about discs assumes you aren’t.
Agreed on the fixed question, are you mental?

I noticed after being down south for a week that a lot of cyclists have rear and sometimes front lights on in the daytime. Don’t see that up north much but I reckon it’s a good idea as a lot of new cars have DRL’s so I suppose it’s good sense to “match” them so we don’t fade into the background.

Despite all the swearing I love that video!

Someone who is happy riding and gets excited. Seems a lot of people are too cool for that sort of thing nowadays, but that video makes me want to try it, so job well done!!

People who don’t know who John Tomac is need to have a quiet word (and a google image/info search) with themselves.

The thing is that Yodel can’t get any better as they have set themselves up as the cheapest there is. They don’t have the money to make their service any better and I reckon they know a certain percentage will end up lost/broken etc which they budget for (but try to wriggle out of accepting any sort of blame anyway).

They simply do not care about their standard of service, and that’s what you take the gamble with when you use them.
