Can anyone remember a comic/image very similar to Mint Sauce that appeared in the back of a Sunday paper magazine back in the 70’s.

@dove1 what size tyre are you running there? I want to use with 40mm Maxxis Ramblers. Looks like they might be on the limit for Speedrockers.

Here’s the table ChatGPT made for me. I think it’s done a better job than the GoOutdoors chatbot.

Had to put a tube in the gravel bike recently. Tubeless, no insert. Hit a pointy stone which actually managed to dent the rim right in the middle (part on a spoke hole) and cut the rim tape.

    I now have inserts.

MTB all running tubeless, with inserts since this spring. Not had a puncture that couldn’t be fixed with an anchovie in years.

That’s what the Kyle looks like at low tide.

At low tide if the Dionard is low you could possibly wade across the kyle close to where the ferry goes. May end in sinking into the sand and drowning/rescue.

Revolut is a bit different to a normal bank because you’ll have a GBP balance, a Norwegian Kronor balance and a Malaysian Ringgit balance (+ any others that you might use). You can shift between those currencies at the (competitive) exchange rate shown in the app, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Compared to paying with your UK bank card in Malaysia with no real idea how much will come out of the bank once it’s converted to GBP I much prefer it. Avoids you getting hit with poor exchange rates and foreign currency charges with every transaction you make.

I also like the virtual/disposable debit cards for online transactions – no worries about an online retailer doing something dodgy with your card details – just cancel and generate new card details without having to wait for a physical card to be issued.

One of your mates thought it would be funny to put a giant left grip on your bike and mess with the pedals/cranks somehow, and you never noticed? Are the cranks still at 180 degrees to each other?

I’ve been reading a french website that analyses cycling performances in great depth and then points out the ones that look suspicious.

They say that in the EPO bad days there were loads of records for outstanding performances set by doped riders. In the 2010 to 2019 era none of these records were broken. If Froome, Wiggins, Bernal etc. were on anything it obviously wasn’t very good.

Suddenly from 2020 loads of the old records from the EPO era started being not just broken, but completely destroyed.

I have the 4 pots on one of my bikes and think they’re pretty good. I’d say get the biggest rotors you can for your frame/fork.

More likely they’ll be able to throw something in if you pay the full price. Eg. one of the components you might need: headset, bb etc.

I’m also thinking that for winter if only the camera module is outside in the cold maybe I don’t need to worry about keeping things warm. Is there anything in one of these camera modules that will stop working in, say, minus 20°C (very unusual to get colder than that here) as long as it’s dry?

For a DSLR I can’t imagine it would like that kind of temperature.

Sounds like buying a raspberry pi camera module + adapter + lens might make more sense than buying an ancient DSLR. Less likely to go wrong and less faffing with software?

    NewRetroTom

Thanks @thisisnotaspoon and @zilog6128 that’s some useful input.

So I need to get myself a raspberry pi and an ancient DSLR. Anyone know if there is a sensible way of joining the two together so the pi gets the data and the DSLR gets power?

The roof has a ~80cm overhang, so the camera can probably live in a box outside mounted under and sheltered by that (though might need something to keep it warm in winter?).

    Sorry for the brag.

Separate energy use from all the other stuff like recycling/avoiding plastics etc.

Yes recycling is nice, but if you rinse that plastic butter tub with hot water from your gas combi boiler you have probably scored an own goal from a climate change perspective.

Substituting things like riding/walking the dog from home instead of driving to do those things (even if it’s in an electric car) is going to reduce energy use massively.

As above, garden shed, vice and electric fretsaw was the Ranulph Fiennes approach I believe.

All fits in with the “ban it harder” lawmaking as a headline grabber.

Basically take something which there is already a law applicable which gives sensible penalties and create a new law for a specific purpose with harsher penalties.

    They’ve done it with:

new bill that will make the “abduction” of a pet cat or dog punishable by up to five years in prison

“criminal damage to memorials”, punishable by up to ten years in prison

Apparently Labour is getting in on it too – considering a new offence of “fraud against the public purse”

As above, don’t waste your time on commuting if you can avoid it.

A good friend of mine used to do that commute 5 days a week until he was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Died aged 36 leaving children aged 6 and 3.

If he could have had the hours back he’d spent commuting…

September is definitely the best month to do it.

June/early July has too much snow (normally) then end of July/August has too many hikers.

October can be a bit cold/early snow can be a problem some years.
