Any money spent on a Dahon is only as valuable as the warranty you get on it. When i had mine i had a 5yr warranty on the frame, i had two new frames and 1 new complete bike because the hinge kept failing. They might be alright for an occasional commute, but regularly it doesn’t hold a torch to the reliability of a Brompton frame.

They are waterproof, but it wont stop water running down your legs and filling them up. What should happen is that your body warmth warms any water that does get in (think wetsuit).

When its cold make sure you do’t over tighten your shoes was best tip i was ever given

I have an S, its bloody brilliant and i’ll upgrade bits as it wears out ;)

I preferred the in your face orange colour, and my early 2016 bike came with Revelations not the Yari. The only think i miss most is the RS comes with two proper tyres not a Beeline so i had to budget to replace the rear tyre and also the S comes with a 30tooth chainring (RS is 32) so i am going to change that too as 30 is just too small for me.

    Otherwise, super pleased with it.

Take the dirt worker and use it on the way round to keep your brake pads from grinding away!

Was fine last weekend, well like riding on broken then solidified concrete, but that’s normal I guess

I just got a new Whyte with a 1×11 Sram CX set up and its really much different to a double or triple ring set up, so much easier, so much less gearing overlap. I’d say i think that the 30 front ring is a little small though, i’m thinking that a 32 or 34 would suit me with that 42 tooth dinner plate on the back.

For reference i’d ride somewhere like Afan/ Glyncorriwg in the middle ring of a triple.

is a 150mm effectively the same as a 148mm boost – so many sizes i’m getting confused.

I like to think i’m quite smooth/ flowing, i’ll happily enjoy muscling it over obstacles – but i’m not really into air.

I was thinking the Xl would be a sort of long travel trail bike, giving some stretch – rather than an all out ‘enduro’ bike, being set up more for gavity assist.

Absolutely seen their deals – hence reason for asking :) They suggested a Large, Pedalon near me suggested perhaps an XL.

I’m going to have to bite the bullet at some point as i am not spending that much mail order so will have to go and see.

Thats very generous Garry, but i am down in Berkshire. Yes i think i am probably on boundary between two sizes – in the past i have deferred to the smaller frame, but then again i run a very unfashionable long stem at the moment

is that the downhill section labelled for competition only

Honestly i’d rather fit some all season tyres, rather than just summer treads, but i can only get them for the front wheels of my car – nobody makes them in the breadth needed for the rears. I don’t commute by car so its a weekend wagon only and going full winters is probably only preferable in the SE for 3-4 weekends tops!

If i felt they were a party of aspiration and i didn’t feel that somehow being successful was wrong. if they stopped using the term hard working families – but exclusively then referring to people on lower incomes – can you not be a hard working family otherwise, oh you have a reasonable income therefore you be defacto cannot work hard – complete crock of turd.

I despise the whole people who earn more should pay more mantra – they already do – its called taxation.

How did you make Swinley to Reading 23miles? From Swinley to The far side of reading its only 15? Are you adding on extra for getting lost.

Nothing like a bit of drama…..last year 3000 cyclists were KILLED or injured

Was my first ride on my cyclo cross bike and I have not embarrassingly been biking since the event last year…. 7hrs for the 100 km and I am completely knackered.

To start with the narrow tyres where perfect, but as the mud firmed it was terrible and I just ran out of strength and gears :-(

Good effort by the team to actually get an event run so well done.

I had my old boat repaired a few times and they guys that did it also did all the carbon warranty repairs for a major bike manufacturer. They reckoned fixing a bike was easy where as a carbon mast for a boat was harder as you had to replicate the bend characteristics so was more involved.

Had less success. Ordered a side table and it arrived as promised but was damaged. We then had to wait for it to be collected before a new one was sent and then that arrived and was damaged too. Delivery driver would not take it back so had to wait another week and a half for that to be returned. 7 weeks in total messing before I just asked for my money back, which is a shame as without the damage it was really nice

Blaze.Pretty quick and parity between light/heavy weights with the adjustable wings.

They ditched that years ago. Everyone sails with the wings at maximum beam, you’ll need to be ready to hike it hard at 70 odd kg though.

All the quick Vareo sailors are around 85kg+ for a reason – its the only way to get any sort of performance out upwind.

If he’s done with the laser then what about something like a Streaker?

I’d still go with the solo though, just get one with the right mast sail combination to go with your dads weight

Anyone who says lasers are the most fun you can have on the water are deluded! Its a bit like saying Carrera are the best bikes as there are loads of them.

RS300 is a great little boat, but at 10 stone you’d probably need the little sail.

The RS100 is still quite new and you’d pick up one now for around £4k, but I suspect to get the most out of it at that weight you’d need the smallest 7.4m sq rig and they are still quite rare.

What about a Solo, perhaps not quite as fast as a laser, but more a boat than and ironing board. I’d dare say possible an even stronger class for anyone over 25yrs of age.

Personally i’ll be sticking with my Musto Skiff for a little longer yet ;-)

For me its the Grand Raid Cristalp for shear epicness.

For balls out fun and amazing atmosphere the Pass Portes takes some beating.

I cycle every day through London and have noticed lately that the number of commercial vehicles giving cyclists little room and trying to intimidate them is getting worse.

The only thing we can do it to make sure that we congregate in large numbers at the front of waiting traffic to make sure we are seen.

Hopefully its only a matter of time before the police start cracking down on this aggressive driving.

Wish my rail commute was sub £4 a day, wish it was less than £14 to be honest.

Monthly tickets are good if its a regular trip – annual if you can get a season ticket loan from your employer are even better as it will save the regular queue to get you ticket.

Don’t we need 3 consecutive quarters of negative growth for it to be called formally a recession? So this is a bit premptive doom mongering then!

I am using a KMC chain, mostly just because i like the gold colour though. Been perfectly strong enough, withstood a lot of abuse just fine and lasted a good year.
