Is that rule close to the camera, or is the spider far away?

It does make a big difference and not too long to fit if you are reasonably practical. As above, seal any gaps between sash and frame first.

Clean the frame, IPA etc, so the tape has a clean surface to stick to. You can temporarily stick the sheet in place, with a light touch and then reposition it to get most of the creases out.
If you have a lot of creases the temptation is to put more heat on until the tension is too much for the tape.

I think I bought the last batch from Screwfix.
They are all of a muchness, you can buy extra tape if you need it.

Exactly, but having that decision making process, however fallible, is what makes it nice to be alive as a human. Remove that and we’ll all become vegetables? We can’t engineer all risk out of life, if we’re all wrapped up in cotton wool for fear of an accident then life will simply become not worth living.

Driving is a chore for most people, it is for me, just a way to get from A to B.

With more technology and distractions in the car, supposedly “busier” lives and busier roads, many drivers are under pressure to get somewhere else sooner rather than later, often with more on the mind at the same time.

I’m in favour of a stricter driving test and frequent re-tests too. This would weed out many people who drive which are just not that well equipped for the job in hand, but would not really affect the drivers who feel they need to get their thrills on the public roads. Too many people seem to have an alter ego that takes over when driving, and act in a way that they would not in any other situation.

The sooner collision avoidance and anti-lane wander technology is fitted to all vehicles, the better for everyone, especially cyclists.

That bad judgement won’t be removed by lowering the speed limit, only by making sure that drivers are better trained in the first place.

removed from the decision making process.

I don’t imagine for a moment the driver will ever get over it or forgive themselves.

But we don’t know that, that is making assumptions on what you feel is correct, the same as other people judging what is an appropriate speed and that other drivers will not make mistakes.

I’m not judging the driver as one of those people, but we often see reoffending on the road, whether speeding, drink driving or driving without due care and attention.

there is an ironing board up against the wall.

What’s that all about? You could be using it as a work bench.

And if it all goes wrong someone still has to come and scoop you up and bag all the bits.

I think the costs should be passed on to those who are at fault, why should I have to pay for other people who choose to pay for their training, pay out for a performance vehicle and still drive like a ****.

It’s hard to fit big rings, fat tyres and chain stays without making the Q wider.

Any complaints will be recorded in the council borough or county where the company is based, not according to where the customer is.

Might be worth talking to trading standards to see if they have an open file.

They could be using guns at the lowest settings and still be over powered, in which case the appropriate tools should be used instead. The timber is obviously not very mature or dense.

As the rest of the construction quality is so poor, it seems that they probably don’t care too much.

Good luck again, I hope you don’t have to fight too hard to get this sorted.

I’ve been thinking about the same.

You can buy stainless steel wire and have swaged eyes fitted, choose length and diameter to suit.

4mm would be hard work with most side cutters, 6mm and larger to resist hand held wire cutters.

Not sure what that says about me

Probably just that you have been in similar position and are not shocked by it.

Most of the people on here will have more experience and sharper skills in dealing with risk. It is good to be reminded that some who drive don’t have the same reflexes and you don’t know where these people are on the road.

According to the article, linked on the previous page, the car driver admitted to not seeing the car behind the rider either.

But at 97mph he REALLY should have,

I know that, it’s not an excuse, and I’m not making one for him.

It bugs me that posters on here are playing the blame game while making assumptions.

For me that is a long time not to see something straight ahead of you

According to the article, linked on the previous page, the car driver admitted to not seeing the car behind the rider either.

It seems that the rider was complacent that the car driver was going to give way, or did not see him either.

I wonder if he was influenced by going to a race meet that day and reminiscing about his other life in Antarctica, shame we will never know.

    I figured that out.

IMO – Not fit for purpose, good luck.

Well the issue is that the boards are more likely to lift and rot, but it sounds like it wouldn’t last that long with the other problems you have listed.

Oh and about the knife? I’m still confused on which one to get

Just get yourself a cheap Opinel to start with, although if you are riding a multi-tool with pliers can be very handy. Go prepared, with instant noodles and enough containers to carry water.

    Leave no trace.

If you venture into the real wilderness solo make sure to leave a route plan with someone and an ETA.

Your link did not work for me.

From the three heads in that photo, you can see different depths for each one, possible all with the same setting. first to standard (just acceptable), second over (low density, board or frame or both), third proud (high density, in a knot).

With your issue you could drive a new fixing close to the original, and then plug the damage with some suitable stopping or filler to protect the timber.

With both round heads and brads.

Flush with the surface without damage to the grain.

With softwoods it can be hard to achieve, as in the lowest setting is still too powerful.

Warpcow – Fair enough, (After a re-read of the OP and with the consideration that I’m unlikely to buy a Yeti) if the bike was bought complete from the manufacturers with black forks then fair enough. If any money went to Yeti for the upgrade to white forks, they should be covering the cost of painting the rear end.
