    R is for radial.

Profile height is a percentage of width.

It’s a new concept to me but just naively assumed running ducts would be much easier/cheaper on a new build rather than retrofit.

Very true, and it’s not a simple as putting multiple ducts in and air will move equally to all rooms, especially if the house is not a sealed unit to start with.

There are lots of constant flow, low consumption, fans with integrated heat exchangers available.

    Like this, for example.

I’ve missed a couple of pages but there’s one thing that never seems to get mentioned. Solar, wind etc. is all super-duper and I can easily imagine more electric cars on the roads but that’s not going to power international flights & container ships, and we rely MASSIVELY on that for getting the stuff we want into the country, and exporting stuff that other people want. How’s that going to work ?

Reduce consumption first and foremost, Reuse what you can, Recycle what you can’t.

Depends on which data set you use.

Which point? Best to use “quotes” like them Scientists do.

    Read the IPCC reports.

Or just get a suitable quote:

This round has also faced challenges such as the recent decade-long “pause” in global warming, which initially confounded predictions.

The synthesis report acknowledges “the rate of warming over the past 15 years … is smaller than the rate calculated since 1951”.

However, it puts this down to “natural variability” and the problem with cherry-picking the start and end dates of short-term trends.

Recent research suggests that much of the extra heat generated over that time has been absorbed by the world’s oceans.

Noooo! Don’t press hard, a moderately light action is what’s needed.

    There’s context there, John.

I really wanted to stay out of this thread…………….go read an EIA for a tidal development.

    So did I but nevermind.

On the projects you have been involved in, what are the effective life span and maintenance schedules for lifting and cleaning, compared to solar, for example?

But long term scientific data supersedes those short term studies………….
That is Science. You uncover new information and use it as your new base.
………………………..What is the point of new research if alarmists and deniers are just going to carry on with their own models
    …………………………
Most sensible people wouldn’t consider mass extinction events as ‘bad’. That would go against Science.

Global warming was dropped in favour of (anthropogenic) climate change, the extra energy in weather systems cannot be measured. Judging and predicting future patterns solely on temperature is a bit like saying we know what dinosaurs looked like because most extant lizards are green and scaly.

A lot of reasonably sensible people run their lives on what they feel is correct, science studies that, not dictates it. If a mass extinction event does arrive for us, as a species, I think most people will feel it’s below average, as events go.

In addition to this, the UK has one of the largest tidal ranges in the World, this is completely predictable, unlike wind, wave and solar. Why are we not using this?

Currently the only way to stop machines in water from fouling up is to cover them in highly toxic coatings that then poison the environment.

As posted earlier, Shell and BP both have large collections of solar patents that are kept under lock and key for a later date. If development was allowed and financed we could be much further ahead on solar, but that does not make enough profit now.

Climate change is not ‘bad’ it is perfectly natural (regardless of whether we are driving it.) The idea that climate change is a negative is ridiculous and unscientific.

    Natural climate change is natural.

I’m sure the “scientists” refer to the topic as anthropogenic climate change, but that is just too much information for the media and many other people to grasp. 🙄

I thought part of the reason behind this is that a normal siren will have people looking for a marked car, using a different sound means their attention will be more focused, seems to have worked for you OP.

Or maybe they are attention seekers just showing off.

So nobody uses a bench grinder? Must be just me then.

I’m happy to use a handheld grinder but didn’t want to recommend that option. I’m assuming if the OP had a bench grinder, they would have figured it out by now, or have no knives left.

You need a very shallow angle for kitchen knives, only 10 or 15 degrees between the blade and the steel. A few heavy draws straight across the steel should get them useable again unless they are really done.

Once you get an edge again, a little and often works best, as above. Storage is also important, if they are stuffed into a container or rattling around in a drawer with other metal utensils they will get dull very quickly.

so continue with fossil fuels until they run out then knock up an alternate energy solution overnight or put some effort in early doors and get it sorted before it’s £15/l for petrol.

There is enough evidence that the big oil companies buy up any patents or licenses that have potential, and then sit on them to prevent competition. BP is well known for hoovering up any solar ideas.

Ant powder around the entrance, but don’t block it off. As they come back, they get dusted and carry it back into the nest.

do you reckon that would make the frame unsafe or more liable to weakness at that point?

    Yes and massively.

I fit kitchens and unless I supply them, it’s got sweet FA to do with me if the customers cabinets are the wrong size?
I’ll try and help to rectify but a lot of the time the doors are boxed separately to the units so to try and go through a mountain of boxes before hand isn’t going to happen.

The doors fit the cabinets, as should be expected, the cabinet does not fit the extractor unit, which should have been checked before hanging. Assuming it’s down to the wall plate, 5 minutes with a router, 4mm gained. No more problem.

Gears AND discs, what was I thinking

    And aluminium frame too.

    neilwheel

The fitter really should have picked this up before hanging the units. It’s part of the job to double check what has been provided is correct.

I don’t think giving you the cold shoulder is the appropriate way to deal with this, but it seems like he’s hoping you will just decide live with it. They must be chasing payment by now?

I can’t see any other way to save this apart from getting the new doors made.

    neilwheel

Disregarding who has cocked this up, there must be a way to gain 4mm.

I was down at Hastings last weekend. The seafront has a bike lane that is between 1/4 and 1/6 of the total available width. Quite a few people decided they should walk in the bike lane, especially one group of chunkies. I just put it down to them being eigits but at least there is space to ride round them.

I think you need to change the stem to get a balance, or go back to the original set up.

    I have 720 flats on my 29er with a 70mm stem, 750mm risers on the ‘Ardcore 26er with a 50mm stem.
