My wholesalers haven’t had a single cassette in stock for months on end. With no sign of the shortages improving and with me unable to make money on parts sales when servicing bikes, or resorting to trawling obscure corners of the internet for every last item I need, I’ve decided to pull the plug on my bike repair business.

. The cameras recording yellow boxes can also be particularly annoying when traffic ceases to flow as you pull across the box.

Do not enter the box unless you know your exit to be clear. This is a really easy fine to avoid.

That split link is in upside down for a start.
On a related note I serviced a Voodoo recently where the BB had completely unscrewed itself from the shell and was grinding the back off the drive side crank so don’t rule out the Halfords factor.

This is a bit voyeuristic i know, but any chance of a vid being shown ?.

I haven’t seen it myself. I believe it was quite impressive.

Hi fossy, the bike was remarkably ok – two buckled rims and a smashed pedal.

Just an update on this. I took this through Slater & Gordon through my Cycling UK membership. 6 months ago, the insurers made an offer “in full and final settlement” of £7k, which I declined. Today they have come back with an offer of £17k.

No driver ever looks in their left mirror before turning left.

This is why it was her fault, not mine.

Someone blocked the road through our village with an articulated lorry the other day. But it’s ok because he also blocked the pavement *

*Try cycling on the pavements in the village and see what comes up on the local facebook winge-page

Surstromming in Sweden. Baltic herring fermented in a barrel then canned, where it ferments again. The stench is beyond description.

It’s worth considering the Thorn Audax, the latest iteration being disc-equipped.

The worst that can happen is/are:
Worn out Chain rings as well as cassette. Or a snapped chain.

Dropout alignment tool. Don’t bother trying to index persistent skipping gears without this.

Hexhamshire Common ain’t what it was. A lot of beautiful old bridleways have been bulldozed and resurfaced for grouse shooting access.
Thrunton Woods and Simonside are worth exploring.

My understanding is that Brooks’ distribution centre is in Italy because they are now owned by Selle Italia.

Blimey, I was thinking about him the other day. The reason being, donkey’s years ago, he appeared in a film called “Night of the Guitars”, in which a number of top twiddlers appeared. Joe Walsh was among them and he popped up on tv the other night with the Eagles.

The thing is, I don’t have perfect congnition and vision, but neither do you. No-one does.

No, I am well aware I am a potential killer and I try to drive accordingly.

If you wear black, let’s say 5 of them don’t see you at all. If you are wearing bright colours, maybe it’s 4 that don’t see you.

Well, you would think so, wouldn’t you. But is there any evidence?
I don’t have trouble seeing people in the road, whatever they are wearing. If people do have trouble, should they be driving?

If you wear hi-viz, drivers who kill cyclists use this as defence in court:
    https://road.cc/content/news/driver-convicted-cyclists-death-277111

Asked by the prosecution how she had failed to see James “right in front of your bonnet,” Powell replied: “The lighting coming through the trees and foliage on the side had created a flickering effect and I believe the high visibility jacket blended in with that.”

my experience of bread in the US is that it was all full of sugar.
Most of what gets sold in the UK as bread shouldn’t qualify as food either, in my view.

We’re going through this decision process right now. We are in the country, have no mains gas and for 25 years have heated the house with a Stanley solid fuel stove which runs runs on smokeless ovals and stays in all the time outside of summer to power the central heating and hot water. In the living room, which is at the end of the central heating circuit, it is rarely warm enough in winter and we have an open fire which we feed on smokeless fuel and logs. We want to replace this with a log burner, probably the Clearview Pioneer. This will make the room far more comfortable in winter, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and increase the efficiency of our log fires.
