    Pre-planned
    and (God help us) pre-prepared.

What’s wrong with arranged, planned, prepared?

it’s not exactly war and peace is it?

As Snoopy once said, “I’ve had the war, now I need the peace!”
On the subject of reviews, have you had much joy in getting mags, papers etc to review? I sent loads of copies out but zero response AFAIK. Even the CTC mag didn’t bother, despite repeated prompts. I would have thought K&T would have been right up their street.
Sorry, this is sounding like pathetic bleating now.

    Cheapskate pricing seems to help

Interesting. I started off at 99p to get things started but putting up the price didn’t seem to harm numbers – plus of course you get to keep more of the royalty! Any advertising outside this hub of good taste?

Ps. Remember I gave you a nice review

This will not be forgotten, when I can grab the Kindle back off the missus!

Kok and Tvatt is ace I thoroughly recommend it

Thanks! Some kind soul wrote a review this week saying it was the “best cycle touring book ever”. Who am I to argue? :D
    Kok & Tvatt

Very best of luck with your own volume. It deserves to do well.
Out of interest, what’s an average month’s sales looking like?

The trails around Blanchland Common were in pretty good shape 2 weeks ago – should be even better now. I hope the good weather holds because we’re due to ride from Alwinton and Rothbury.

Hi Crispy, some maps of the proposed Byway upgrades are in this document:
    BOAT application
Some might be quite useful; others rubbish.
Don’t know of any other outstanding reclassification applications in the county at the mo.

    neilthewheel

Would be great to get it reclassified though

There are some BOAT applications going through at the moment, mostly on Hamsterley Common. So far it’s taken 15 years and it’s still grinding through the courts. Since these roads were actually created by Act of Parliament sometime in the early 19th Century, you could argue it’s taken about two centuries to get this far. I hope you live long enough to see the day that footpath is reclassified.

Hamsterley Common is a great trail, although V cheeky

I talked to a RoW officer who will remain anonymous and pointed out it should be a bridleway (it is Bridleway all through the forest until it meets the Parish boundary at thre forest edge). I said I wanted to make a claim to get it reclassified.
The RoW officer said, “Don’t bother, just ride it anyway.”

Mushroom Man – when we were first building trails at Hamsterley, and were finishing work on the Grove Link, somebody kept sabotaging the trails, using a crowbar to destroy stone features and so on. Eventually some of the Trailblazers organised a stake-out and caught the guy red-handed. When the police questioned him he said the trails were damaging his mushroom picking areas. (This wasn’t true). Anyway, this was a few years ahgo. Maybe he’s come back. :-(
I agree comments by the likes of Matthew Parris and J. Clarkson are not helpful. Of course they’re being tongue in cheek and post-modern and aren’t they outrageous ha ha ha. Unfortunately there are people who are not bright enough to understand and they take them at face value. Then you get this kind of stuff happening.

I wonder if it’s Mushroom Man?

Mike, we discussed this possibility at HTB meeting on Monday night and urged Neil at FC to look up the files on that incident. Mushrooom Man would certainly be getting a visit if I was the investigating officer.
We’ve also been told about a sustained campaign of sabotage at Chopwell Woods – including trees being cut almost through so as to fall on passing riders.
Please, everyone be vigilant and take care.

much better to let them be wrong and inform the RoW officer of the incident as this will have a much better effect than arguing mid ride

…which is pretty much what we did. I asked her to clarify the situation, told her I’d heard of no such changes (and I’m on the LAF)and she went back to the house.
I also asked the RoW officer in my email whether they would ever write to a landowner telling them to tell cyclists not to use a RoW if it was downgraded from BW footpath. Whether or not cyclists are allowed on a FP is entirely at the landowner’s discretion, surely? AND I wonder how many landowners are aware of this?

All the above is right. If there’s not enough space to get the pads in, the pistons aren’t pushed in far enough. Attaching a syringe with brake fluid in and opening the bleed nipple is an excellent idea as it releases the pressure and allows you to push the pistons that all-important bit further.
