    That’s not two choices, it’s a choice.
But you’re right – the cartridge BB will probably last longer, a carbon fork will probably be more comfortable and 8 speed is cheap to replace.
It’s a commuter, does it need to be race ready?

A (rambling) member of our Local Access Forum told me it would be impossible for walkers to share footpaths with bikes, because: “What if I were walking on a footpath through a field of crops and a cyclist came the other way. How would we get past each other?”

If I come across a hairpin or some other technical feature I simply alight and have my man carry the bike to the next smooth section of trail. I’ll follow on in the palanquin.

Not sure why everyone is talking as though this is your fault! Tell your employer, tell the police. But if you want compensation it’ll probably have to come from your own insurance.

Are you talking about adding/removing chain links here? If so, this is the first thing to sort out. In my experience the best way to sort this is to run the chain round the 34t sprocket and the 44t chainring, without threading the chain through the rear mech. Bring the ends together so the chain is taut. The correct length is this + one whole link + the magic link. This will give you enough slack to prevent the mech getting ripped off, but not so much the chain is sloppy when in the smallest chain ring/ smallest sprocket.
The other issue to sort out is the B-screw setting. I thinks SRAM recommend 1.5 links clearance between the top pulley and whatever sprocket you are in so wind the B screw in or out until you get there or thereabouts.Hope this helps.

Another vote for Suisse Normande. If you like riding sunken lanes and hidden woodsy singletrack that pop out in undiscovered villages then you will like it too.

Am I the only one who’s noticed a bizarre shift in the way some people pounce their vowels? Instead of saying “oh no,” they say “ay nay!” Dr Alice Roberts on the telly does it. She goes on about “Heeman evoleetion”.

Note in the article it mentions a report in the Independent. It somehow neglects to mention that the reporter was invited by FC to ride round Hamsterley…on a day when all the trails were closed for a motor sport event!
Thanks for responses so far….only 7 people on this forum in a city of 8 million? Surely not!

One way of reducing soil fertility ready for wild flower sowing is to grow a nutrient-demanding crop like potatoes in the soil the year before. Don’t manure them, obviously.

Nice clean look and the spelling’s ok (I can’t stand poor spelling on professional websites). Might I suggest that you make your USP (only same day deliveries) the main headline on the home page? As it is, your customer will have to have spent quite a while on the site before they come across it.

Muzzle, for the sake of a few quid, get it properly faced. If you try to knock it in flush you risk flaring the head tube and you would end up with top and bottom cups which are not parallel. The bearings would never run smoothly.

I do a bit of am dram and once let one out on stage in the middle of a performance. It wasn’t entirely my fault; it was during a comedy fight scene when my assailant got me on the floor and sat on my stomach. They must have heard it in the back row.

In the days of black and white valve sets that went wrong all the time, our TV repair man was a rather rotund gentleman. He came into our living room one day and my brother, aged about 5, declared, “Oooh, you look like a balloon!”
My bro. was another one who thought there was a dance settee, by the way.

is anti matter still theoretical? Or scientifically measurable, quantifiable, observable fact?

Observable fact. it is used in PET scanning in medicine:

What MTB has always been a bad one for this. I stopped reading it when it started referring to bikes as “Race weapons” and “trail hammers”. Who the hell talks like this?
Worse, though, is when manufacturers’ marketing guff gets recycled as copy. eg, last week’s Cycling Weekly explains how the new Sram Force groupset “…through a choice of materials and finishes manages to reduce the cost greatly without compromising the longevity.”
Well, excuse me, but if it’s only just come out, how the hell do you know anything about its longevity? What? Sram told you so? Ah…

They all have their pros and cons – any claim to the contrary is just marketing. Ride a 20″ regularly and a 26″ feels like a steamroller!

It’s a good job Alex Moulton didn’t invent mountain biking!

    The Dromme Valley:

We explored the Dromme Valley last year, around Die. Lots of sketchy, exposed singletrack – not hugely tech but the potential for falling off the mountain is fair. No lifts; lots of fire road climbs. Really nice area.

Surely it is different from a sense of self. Your sense of self is inherently linked to the memories and experiences you have ‘stored’ in this body, the neuron pathways you have hard wired through use and practice and certain motor skills you accept autonomously.

My wife made just this point – but I don’t think you are any less “you” at birth when you have almost zero memories/experiences.
The sense of “self”, to me, is about the fact that of all the consciousnesses there are strolling around on the planet, there’s only one which you see from the inside as it were. Which, as user-removed points out, some would call the soul. If you reject the idea of the soul, it seems to be that if you accept you might ever see another consciousness from the inside – a kind of non-spiritual reincarnation – you would have to accept that it could happen twice at the same time. That’s really mind-boggling and impossible. Therefore, by the power of logic, I have to accept that this is the only consciousness I will ever inhabit (or accept the idea of a soul floating from one body to another which I also reject).

What happened to smacking them on their arse????? never did me any harm and we never had any issues with our children either.

When I was a journalist I interviewed a guy who said much the same thing. “My dad used to hit me – never did me any harm…”
When I asked him whether the fact that he was hit as a child might have anything to do with the fact that I was speaking to him in a prison, where he was serving a sentence for GBH, his reaction suggested this might never have occurred to him before…
