No reasonable person would expect someone in authority to deliberately design a cycle path so that it placed anyone using it in extreme danger.
We need corporate manslaughter charges against the people who design this crap

I like window winders – they should be offered on all cars.

Actually, no they shouldn’t . People who chuck their litter onto the verges should have their windows welded shut.

Saw them on their reunion tour a few years back with Phil Jupitus and Ade Edmondson doing the bits Viv Stanshall couldn’t be there for. one of the most enjoyable nights out I’ve ever had.

Criminal Justice Act 1994. Legislation introduced to give the police the power to shut down illegal raves on private land, but could just as easily apply to any person being on private land without permission. In practice, and for obvious reasons, prosecutions are rare.

Not applicable to bicycles on footpath: you have to be tresspassing “with others” and with the intent to reside on the land or hold a rave:

This is from CTC’s policy on riding on footpaths. {Perhaps we should all refer our MPs to it and garner their views?

CTC believes that it is acceptable for cyclists to use footpaths, provided they do so in a manner which respects the safety of other road users and their peaceful enjoyment of the outdoors, and with regard for the environment and its ecology. These are the circumstances in which CTC believes it is acceptable for cyclists to ride on footpaths:
Where the surface and width of the path make it eminently suitable for safe cycling without causing disturbance or risk to pedestrians; or
Where the path is lightly used, such that the likelihood of disturbance or risk to pedestrians is minimal; or
Where a path is unlikely to attract such high levels of cycling that it will cause environmental damage (notably erosion); or
Where there is a reasonable belief that the footpath in question might already carry higher rights – for example:
where there is historic evidence (e.g. through enclosure award maps) demonstrating past use either by horses or by vehicles
    where the path is shown on OS maps as an ‘Other Road with Public Access’ (ORPA), indicating an assumption that higher rights may exist;
where there is regular use by equestrians, motor vehicles and/or by other cyclists.
Where the relevant landowner is a public body or a charity and/or accepts or appears to accept use of the path by cyclists.

Has anyone been prosecuted for trespass for cycling on a footpath?

no, because it’s not a criminal act – it’s a civil matter and the landowner would have to take you through the civil courts. It just doesn’t happen.
Which makes us question – why does anyone take any notice at all of the “no bikes on footpaths” lie?
We should have the right to ride wherever there is a public right of way, subject to the One Rule quoted above, without feeling guilty about it.

For some reason Y&Y is very cosy with Royal Mail. Happy to have them on to talk about their latest special issue stamps for example. Quite a lot of the programme seems to be a thinly veiled puff for some product or other.
If you want to get a free plug on Y&Y, issue a press release saying sales of X are up 50% this year and they’ll invite you on to talk about the sudden fashion for X.

force the pads apart, open the bleed port on the caliper so a little fluid runs out. Close the port, release the pressure on the pads. See if that helps.

On a 26 or 700c wheel? (other sizes are available, I believe). If the latter, consider A 16T.

Had a bit of a holiday there a couple of years ago, stayed in Goslar. Nice town, but found the mountain biking a bit of a let-down. Most of the official waymarked routes seemed to try to actually prevent you from finding any singletrack. I’m sure if we had the local knowledge we could have put together some better stuff. The forests were pine plantation and not very exciting for either riding or walking. The steam trains up the Brocken were great, though.

I have a Kasp one that was cheap and works well. The transmitter seasily works across a back lane between the garage and house. Every day I forget to turn it off and have to go back to the house to shut it up.

What have you done that brings your garden to life?

fitted 650B wheels to my lawnmower.
    Post of the week.

Partly it depends on how much work you enjoy gardening. For minimum maintenance go for more hard areas. We recently had our small rear garden overhauled by a little man who did a great job setting out new paths, built some very tidy looking raised beds for veg and dug us a new pond (highly recommended for wildlife interest). If the summerhouse is nice, make this the focus. We don’t use it much in the winter and it isn’t overlooked from the house so winter colour is not of too much interest to us. A corkscrew hazel looks good in the winter (a bit scruffy in the summer though). Winter flowering jasmine is pretty and keeps going. Lots of snowdrops bring spring in early.

if weed were legal i could easily go without drink, i think…

however a nice cold Tegernseer after a ride or a bottle of Edelvernatsch from South Tyrol would be hard to say no to. so perhaps not.

if weed were legal i could easily drink less.

You’re forgetting “several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict”. Though that’s nothing to do with Dylan of course.

Once your lungs are about bursting near the top, there’s a trail somewhere off to the right, and this will lead you most of the way into the forest via Doctor’s Gate and Rocky Road. I can’t remember if the first part is legal mind, I know the rest is. I reckon that’s the shortest.[list]

On the road climb out of Wolsingham, at the top where the roasd swins sharp left, keep straight ahead on a track marked as no through road. The tarmac runs out at a gate; keep straight ahead onto the moor. This is the Doctor’s Gate track and leads to a mental descent into the forest. All legal.

TF Tuned serviced my old Blacks recently so they may have parts for Mars too. Not too sure though, as parts for old Manitous are getting a bit rare.

There are various adapters to fit Shimano cranksets to BB30 bikes. Stock up on BB30 bearings.
FWIW a friend went down to have a fitting for a Tuono but he hasn’t been happy with it and was glad when winter came and he could go back to his Genesis.

    It’s ok, I’m still alive.

Removed the inner cable before threading something else through frame to guide or pull me cable? Oops.

No – it’s a case of no continuous outer through the frame, so you have to mess about trying to thread the inner through and try to hook it out of the hole at the other end.
Woody74 – thanks for the tip. Genius.
