Get a little dry spell like we’ve had lately and it can be excellent at this time of year. In fact, you’ve made me want to go and take a look.

Re. Quinag – the path has been restored and a new detour created if you intend to climb the south ridge. The ridge itself is pathless but has lots of slabby rock you could play on. From my experience (1 week last month) you wouldn’t feel cheated if you took the mountain bike but if you take the road bike….yipeee!

We got £100 for the last one we owned. The buyers used it to drive to Mongolia for a charity banger rally. Last I heard they’d broken down in Poland in lashing rain…

In the old days if something needed bleaching it was left out in the sun. Does the sun shine there?

I broke the chain on my road bike yesterday. No problem, I thought, and deftly removed the broken link and put the magic link parts through the two ends. Pulled together to join, the chain slipped through my fingers and the spring tension in the rear mech flung one half of the chain link into the roadside leaf litter. Ha ha blinking ha.

My 10 speed dura-ace cassette has 3 titanium sprockets. They are indeed noisy.

I had a chicken, smoked bacon and leek pie in the Cross Keys, Hamsterley last night. I might say it was pretty good. Shortcrust pastry.

Eric Pickles serves the same purpose as Norman Tebbit and Anne Wiiddecombe in previous Tory admins: If I don’t know what position to take on an issue, I listen to him. Then I know the opposite is the right stance.

I had my Orange Evo2 shotblasted and powder coated for that same reason. It came up ve ry well. Powder coat is pretty hard wearing. Even a raw finish would need a laquer coat to stop it oxidising.

One advantage of disc brakes is that you don’t wear your rims out. With the fashion for factory built wheel sets that effectively saves you having to replace your wheels. RS80 is a pretty good wheelset though, worth keeping if they have been looked after.
I would say the Sora 9 speed groupset is the weak spec on your CAAD 8 and a new 105 or Ultegra would be a nice upgrade.

We were staying at a hotel in Florence a few years back with a tiny, very slow old lift. We got in the lift one evening and as the doors shut I was engulfed by the smell of rotten eggs. I looked at my wife and she was smirking. The lift took ages to get going and to travel its journey upwards to our floor. She later told me that she’d held it in all the way back from our restaurant especially

    She’s a keeper!

All I can say is, brussels sprouts, roast potatoes and jerusalem artichokes on the same plate.

There’s a long track that runs down through the old mine workings in Rookhope Burn. Every time I ride up the road on the road bike I think I must have a go down it on the mountain bike. It’s not officially a right of way but it doesn’t say it isn’t either!

the Beatles: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, “The girl with colitis goes by”
Also, in Back in the USSR my wife insisted the words were, “let me hear your bellows like they’re ringing out”

I thought David Bowie’s Scary Monsters, Super Creeps began “she ‘ad an ‘orror of prunes”

If you want to keep cost to a minimum you might have to go for another Viking. SometImes you migHt find a Dawes at a sensible price.

the levellers? Have you run mad? Awesome band

I saw them at some folk festival or other (might have been Brampton). All I wanted to do was push them into a bath tub and scrub them down with a stiff-bristled broom.

Going back a bit, may I add Ram Jam? They made a great album (the one with Black Betty) but I never heard any more from them.
