I’d be interested to know where people who espouse the view that littering is creating jobs imagine the money comes from to pay the wages of the litter-pickers.
Anyway, unless you make a specific complaint the roadside litter here never gets cleared up.

Those thumb tendon injuries are nasty. My physio made me have an x-ray as they can sometimes pull a piece of bone off when they detach. Don’t know what more they could do about it though. A splint and bandaging is good, if only to stop you trying to use it accidentally.

Drive through (or “thru”) fast food joints encourage eating and drinking in cars. But people can’t have rubbish in their cars can they? So it all goes out of the windows. These outlets should be made to install number plate recognition systems linked to bar codes on the packaging. A few £100 fines through the post might make people think twice about how they dispose of their garbage.

We rode past the Maserati HQ on our tandem and decided to swing in for a look and a possible part exchange. The security guard in his little booth took one look and wagged his finger at us. For that reason I will never buy one of their cars…

150 entries so far I believe! Help also needed for marshalling and the like. Look up the Hamsterley Riders page on Facebook for info and offers of help.

Going from Hull, the ferry would be docking in Rotterdam…

    Or Amsterdam

Yes, the cycle path from the ferry terminal to Amsterdam is up to the usual netherlands standard and absolutely fine, if mostly alongside a main road. We quite enjoyed it! Well under an hour’s ride IIRC

An item on R4 this morning about Holy Island – nothing tao do with the election etc – a woman who lives there says many of the council houses sold cheaply in the 80’s are now rented out as holiday homes.

there needs to be more focus on what is sustainable.
What a rights of way is classified as currently seem very random.

Basically because the difference between a footpath/bridleway/BOAT was just decided by a a series of civil servants in the 50’s.

The current thinking seems to be if its a bridleway/BOAT and its not sustainable it needs to be repaired to a standard so it is sustainable.

Personally I think all rights of way should be reclassified on sustainability.

MTBer either need to be classed with walkers as they are so similar or have their own group they are not comparible to horse’s see below.

    average walker weights 70kg
average MTB 80 kg + 20 kg average.
    average horse rider 500kg + 70kg
    average 4×4 1500kg +

Alot of trails in clay areas should only be bridleways in the summer.

Just what we need – a bureaucratic solution. That should take about 2 decades to sort out.

The Tories have always been like this. They think owning a home is a right but having a home is not.

I’ve always used a spray degreaser for both removing and fitting which has the advantage of evaporating to allow the new grip to … Er…grip.

you’d better make the most of Foxcover wood, it looks like it’s about to be severely rearranged. Re. Pontop pike and chopwell, you can use the Consett-sunderland cycle path to get you close to pontop pike, there’s a bridleway to the top then singletrack down to Dipton. From there you can follow various footpaths into Dipton woods, all the way to the old byway that leads out to the road. Cross over, follow the path under the viaduct to Linzford Mill and cross the road to pick up a footpath directly into Chopwell woods.
OddSox are great people to ride with – what they don’t know about the riding in the area isn’t worth knowing.
Not sure about the replacement yet – might wait a while to see what catches my eye. I have the Boardman for now so there’s no rush…

Ha ha! Don’t know where they got their facts from – did you note the reported theft of the Caad10? That’s what i told the police when I was standing in the garage looking at the empty spaces where my bikes used to be. It was half an hour before I remembered the Caad was indoors, on the turbo trainer! No sign yet of the Orange. I think once it had got moved on it was never goung to show up. Claim time.

What they are looking for is the detectable decay particles of the un-seeable particle. From the decay products, speeds, trajectories etc they can then infer that they came from the new particle.

    Oh.

    neilthewheel

What I don’t understand is- how do you build a detector for a particle that’s never been detected? Some of them go through hundreds of feet of solid rock so you would think they’d just go straight through your detector too.

I know the right answer to this! We stayed at Gite du St Julien at Buis les Baronnies not far from Ventoux. It’s a hostel but really nice, swimming pool etc. The woman who runs it cooks fantastic meals every night and it costs buttons to stay there.

My kids found a stream where all the tourists have been throwing coins, like a wishing well. We were in a canoe. Easy pickings.

You rotters. That money was being collected for a robin sanctuary.
