There’s something like this out there already. I know because my sister had a pair. We spent 15 minutes on a windswept Irish mountain trying to stop them blowing away while she tried to put them on.

^Feelings and thoughts are not the same as truth or reality. Depression turns your brain into a lying bastard. Because you are intelligent you are used to believing what your mind tells you but you can’t always.

As long as you reference your sources, where’s the problem?

Once you’ve had depression it’s hard to go back, it’s like stripping away the veneer that gives life a purpose and once you’ve seen how pointless and futile it is you can’t unsee it.

Very perceptive. Setting little goals and targets is really important in dealing with depression because if you only try to see the big picture you would never get out of bed.
One of the first things I tried with my CBT counsellor was doing something I used to enjoy and hadn’t done for a long time. She told me to make a point of doing this every day; just making time for yourself and doing nothing of any importance – just something nice for the hell of it.

If it’s a mountain bike club, is there a local trail centre where you could help fund trail building?

It’s all typical of the shite we spend our money on rather than pay more taxes and have pot-hole free roads to drive on.

Blooming’ “Take 5” by Dave Brubeck, thanks to it being used as the intro music for a play I was in last week.

Generally speaking you can still find the track if it hasn’t been turned into a road or ploughed out of existence for forestry.

Where I live there’s been a lot of opencast mining. You can see where it is by comparing the ancient and modern field patterns.

It can get very messy – with horrifically long and arcane arguments over whether rights were public or private, up your way the old track to riddlehamhope is a prime example.

On the other hand, you might get them through unopposed. Anyway, I like annoying truculent land owners.

I’ve already found several rights of way around me that are on the definitive map as footpaths but shown as BR (bridle Roads) on the old OS maps.

looks like a lot of the trails I ride already pre-date those maps

This is the thing – in 1886 nobody gave a monkey’s about footpaths/bridleways etc. Those designations didn’t exist. fact is, if there was a track and it had easy access at either end, people probably used it – for work, not leisure. By horse, bike, foot, cart.

Must have done all of 8 miles on the Beamish Oddsox easy ride but that was great because it was my first mtb ride since I broke my shoulder. We had a barbie after.

Personally I hated the bike bus, worst journey ever. We picked it up from Stockton, though, so it make for an unbelievably long, uncomfortable ride. Especially as it broke down somewhere near Milton Keynes.
