The first time I went to the alps I went with endless ride and they were ace, really enjoyed my time with them. I’m going with another tour co this time but that was purely by chance. Me and a couple of mates are actually heading out on the 12th of july if you want to meet up with some people to ride with?

Spares wise i’m not going to mad, spare pads, tubes, mech hanger and thats about it. My bike already has large rotors (203mm) front and rear. I’m not going for DH specifically so i’m going to keep my current mountain king 2.4 protection’s on, I may look at some DH tyres out there but we’ll see.

If you are after routes check out the bikefax book for the area, we’ve bought it, looks goood and has a range of riding.

yes they pointed me to you ha ha. I’m sure we will get things sorted out between us, its just a case of getting it repaired for a cost that is cost effective in regards to worth of the seatpost.

I would appreciate it if you could take the parts to mayhemas you’ve offered?

Many thanks for all your help on this!

where can I get a guide block from? Do 2pure sell just the guide blocks? my original dealer is USELESS and wouldn’t go back there. I have the service manual from the maverick website so could certainly do it myself. What happends if the female end of the slot is worn? Are we saying that the main shaft wears out? What is the process then?

Its has developed a lot of play, i’ve done the basic service on it but inspite of this its still developed. I’ve read other posts where people have had similar problems.

Who is now responsible for Maverick warranties? what happens if something further goes wrong in the future? I think as you say the guide block is worn and yes they quoted me for a full rebuild. Annoyingly I have the Mountain Mayhem a week Saturday, then two weeks after that i’m away in the Alps, this is annoying as 2pure have a 10 day turn around so i don’t know even when i could get it in?

From what i’ve been told they are both accredited courses, simply by different bodies. The MIAS one is accredited by the ABC awards board that are affiliated by NVQ, all these abbreviations!

The MIAS one i’ve just done is accepted by schools, MOD and local authorities, i know this because all of those were on my last course! there are varying levels though and are age dependant (kids or adults).

I’d give the guy Ray a ring, he won’t bull shit you and will give you honest advice, even if the course you need isn’t what he offers. i asked what i should do next and he basically said that unless i was wanting to take kids out i wouldn’t need much else, i think just to add to my own CV i will do my WGL award then my level 3 (i’ve just done 2)

http://www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk/ are the people who i did mine with last weekend just gone, excellent tuition on both the practical and thoery parts. Split over two days.

i did it because i had thought of doing a bit of skills coaching but mostly for if i led rides in the future properly, nothing set in stone though as couldn’t afford to leave the job i’ve got now. However it has left me a little more focused in that i think i would like to do a bit of skills coaching and perhaps take it up more when i semi-retire? more than anything it was an enjoyable weekend, which i was a little uncertain about as i’ve been a mountain biker for nearly 16 years, but i learnt a lot!

hmm to make things even more difficult i’m going to do both, looks like the kenda’s are out then if the sidewalls are that thin

i have MK’s now and i like them, if a little sketchy on the front but that may be me just being picky, but they’re £32-36 each at the minute which is more than i’m willing to pay (got mine 11 months ago for £23 each on special from wiggle, Protection as well!) 😀

so do people reckon that a pair of Nevegals f+r would be a good bet for the alps too? going in july so ideally want a tire that can do the UK and Alps?

it should be the same as any other QR, nipped up.

    fair play ha ha

The QR bit itself works similar to a normal QR system in that it has a wedge thing at the end of the 12mm maxxle, it has nothing to do with the collars, you’ll just have to grip the end and wind up the QR, don’t do it too much other wise you won’t be able to close it. I had the same issue with my Ransom.

i’ve had a set of the 2.4 versions for about 8-9 months and the back could do with changing really, but my mate has had the 2.2’s and he’s the same as you in that his has worn out in 6 months. They are great tyres though, they’re not perfect but they area good compromise, good all year round tyres though and really good for trail centres!

    neil853

i think its 27.2 but i’m not certain? check on a shop website (evans leisure lakes etc) they sometimes have them on certain models adverts

me too i have three thule ones on the roof and they’re very good, just check and double check before you set off, same with any rack. they are the best compromise in my opinion.
