there's a guy called craig jackson on here who does servicing, i'll dig out his details and post them.

He does the best job he can but he has limited spares. he does have guide blocks but on mine for example the guide blocks and the black outer sleeve have worn, so replacing the guide blocks has helped but there is still considerable play there.

As someone says, pi$$ poor. I really like the freedom that these type of seatposts bring, thing is they all have faults it seems, and picking another is a gamble as you only know problems 12 months down the line and then the warranty is non existent and repair costs seem to be eye watering

I do own a carbon full sus and i have no quibbles about riding one, i'm with clubber in that its in the construction. People like Trek, Scott and Giant have pioneered the development of carbon construction into something that has clearly equalled or bettered aluminium.

i’m away in france for the next two weekends but i’d like to get involved with the digging? i’m only in preston and i reckon a mate of mine will come along too? emails in profile if you could email me the details?

i’m going to have to talk to my girlfriend to arrange logistics 😉 we only have car but she stays at work (horse yard) when I go riding away. I was thinking of going wednesday night to saturday morning/afternoon? most i can do with the projects I have on at work at the minute, tight getting that to be honest.

    well up for it though!

thisisnotaspoon I’d be up for either, i’ll get back to you sometime this week with dates that i’ll come along, won’t be the whole week but will be 2 or 3 days. I’ve only done the trail centres so knowledge of natural trails is non-existent i’m afraid, up for any routes though.

i’d be up for snowdon, like you say, be good to do at least once to say you’ve done it?

I’m in Preston by the way

fantastic place with a whole host of trails for every skill level. if you’ve been riding a while but haven’t got much time ride the tarw trail (old karrimor trail), its awesome. if you’ve got more time then do the beast, 30-32km i think and its brill, long descents and fantastic single track.

if you’ve not ben before you’ll love it

i’m sure the book has something in there that you can link together, i remember someting about routes in the chatel valley but i guess you’d have to link several routes together?

    when are you going?

i’m taking my scott ransom, so a similar thing. most if not all of my riding will be lift assisted but i’m going to use them to go further a field. got the bikefax book that has loads of good routes in.

Shimano Saint’s or XT’s for me, far more reliable and the new 4 pot saints have to tried to believe the power, truely stunning. My mates XT’s on his meta 5 are amazing for an xc brake too!

does anyone know anyone who wants some help with skills coaching/leading? i’m based in the north west and would like to volunteer my time? can’t do every weekend obviously but i’d like to get some experience when it suited both parties?

just ride at a constant pace and pump through them. my mate tried to manual them and got caught short, put his wheel into the third whole and went straight over the bars, nothing he could do couldn’t even get his hand out. a nasty crash which i know something about as i did something similar 10 years ago, only i got even more stitch’s 😉

Face plant into the floor over the three whopps towards the end? Smashed one of his front teeth out and a deep cut to the lip, wasn’t looking for major surgery, just a bit of reassurance and something fresh for his wound. But its over with now and he’s back home and on the mend. surgeon did an amazing job on his lip, apart fom the swelling it looks as good as it could do, and the scarring will be minimal which is good.

Funny becasue we did the same and popped down to the keswick clinic and they just took one look and said ‘oh we can’t do anything with that’ and gave us directions to carlise, not exactly condfidence inspiring for me with my limited and strecthed first aid skills! I at least would of thought they’d of given us something to stop the bleeding? I’d used all my swob things from my first aid kit and was on to my gillet top!

But on a positive note the staff at carlise were amazing, he was in and out in 2hr 45mins! thats from sitting down to being stitched up and out!

Could well be my next bike. I’ve always been a big SBC fan but rode an early epic and an enduro and hated the brain system. Now I think you can more or less turn them off, they’ve gone back to fox rear shocks to keep the reliability there and they’ve got to the magic 140mm barrier. As I say, looks like my next bike.

my bike is cleaned after every ride and seals lubricated, i think most people have got into the routine of cleaning the stantions and putting a little oil on now

I’m more than willing to buy into the service scheme of things. Anyone who has seen my bike will vouch for this and I actively enjoy cleaning and maintaining my bike (weirdo?). But to come out with these ridiculously low service intervals HAS negated 90% of warranty claims. I only ride twice a week and my forks have to have a strip down every two weeks (according to RS). This hasn’t always been the case with RS. I had a set of Duke SL’s for two years without servicing (yes i know should of done) and i’ve had SID’s that have been flawless, its sods law that the most expensive out of the lot have been the problamatic.

I think it maybe a valid if not exact analagy with motorcycle/MX forks beacause they have at least longer service intervals. We accept that things have to be maintained but things at the minute are not good enough. I think we’ve reached the peak of travel vs weight because longevity just isn’t there.

What i’m looking forward to seeing the BOS forks, wonder if they are the answer? 🙄
