always an irritation simon eh?! I mentioned a place very close by in rivington. The reason i suggested gisburn is that its waymarked and enjoyable, everytime i’ve took people who’ve just started or are inexperienced they’ve enjoyed it. Of course there’s hunderds or places he could go my list wasn’t exactly final

there’s a few places to try, you’ve got rivington on your doorstep and i’ve always liked gisburn (near clitheroe) which is about 45 minutes or so away.

A club called the bogtrotters (based lancaster) do beginner rides too which maybe worth a look if thats your thing

what i found it did really well was maintain a neutral riding position all the time, by that i mean it seemed ‘level’ all the time. Whether pedalling, up hill, downhill whatever. Doesn’t seem to squat so when peddaling up a rough climb it feels really quick.

The travel (pardon the cliche) also seemed bottomless, i mean i’m not a small chap (15st) but i didn’t bottom it out, or i didn’t feel it bottom out.

It is also incredibly stiff, there is little to no lateral flex which is instantly noticable when putting the power down.

If there was any downside on fireroad type climbs it felt sluggish, but flicking the propedal helps this.

I can safely say that i can’t wait to get mine but i hasten to add you must test them, i know some peolpe have tried the lt2/ltc and not found them as good as i did, everyone is different.

i test rode and have now ordered a ltc, i thought it was spectacular to ride.

the price of these is already expensive, but you would have thought that fox would leep it in line wiht the RS unit wouldn’t you? be nice to have something reliable though that doesn’t look like an alevel engineering project.

I really like the look of that whyte, i’ve ordered a blur ltc but i’m actually having second thoughts 😕

Mail order wheels are handbuilt too!

I realse that thank you, i was meaning that there is a differnce between wheelbuilders, mail order people most likely go for the volume market, building as many as they can, the wheels i had built at Hewitts had obviously had more time spent on them.

you can tell the difference between handbuilt wheels too. I’ve had some wheels built by Paul Hewitts of Leyland and they are superb, tension is perfect. I’ve had wheel built by mail order shops supposably handbuilt but have lost tension and generally have not been the strongest. The price for build form Hewitts was not cheap, but i wouldn’t hesitate in recomending them.

I could build a full bike with hope wheels full slx groupset and fox vanilla and thomson stem and post fork for £1750. All the kit is like new.

    That sounds a cracking deal!

I’ve just gone for a Blur LTC (well i’m waiting on it to arrive). The nike i test rode felt amazing, so stiff! the only way to decide is to test ride them.

Make a poster for your back with his Reg Number on it and a message saying something like… ‘need to re-sit his test’ or something.
Or – ‘leave some f—ing room’

    It might embarrass him.

Ha ha i like that a lot 8)

I’m torn, my reasoned ‘day’ head says just ignore it and enjoy the rest of your commute and accept that some people get too close, he’s oboviously a moron with no balls so just leave it. Then my irrational side says he is a danger to other cyclists and not just me and deserves a good slap. I don’t see him that often that i can recall, maybe 10 times in the last 12 months, its not an everyday occurance. Next time i see him i’ll take the number and report him to the police, i’ll see what happens from there 🙄

you are no more likely to have damage done to your bikes with a roof rack than any other type of rack, product or human failings can happen with either. For the record Crell i think you're doing the right thing before assigning blame.

For the record i've had thule roof racks for nearly three years covering literally thousands of miles with not a hint of trouble, the same can be said for my mates that have the toe bar alternative.

I'm sorry for your loss with the bike stuff, but try not to think of the what ifs, there's nothing you can do about that now. Its sounds like you're doing the right thing and trying to learn what caused it and avoid it, thats all you can do.

I had issues with my rear hub, went through 3 sets of bearings in 3 years. But my local nike shop only charged me £10 labour to change them, didn't think it was worth the hassle to anything else. The hub bearings are meant to be removed using the specific tool.

hi Ed, I would certainly consider it. By the sound of it you seem to have all the bases covered.

Key things for me are (like someone has already said) a decent workshop, bike clean area, help with getting lift pass, lifts to areas that may not be served by lifts and so have quieter smoother trails and yes, guiding.

Guiding is not essential but is something I'm looking at for my holiday next year, not all week but maybe a couple of days. Price seems competitive but wouldn't spend anymore than that without guiding. But I like your approach so if you email me details and I will definitely keep it in mind for next year.

I normally go away in july and self drive, don't know if you've considered that? Transfers aren't any use to me 😉

cadair view lodge, they are wood cabin type things, right next to cyb and perfect for mountain bikers, we stayed with them a while ago and it was perfect.

Is that a good or bad thing?

erm, i don't know. I tried the suirt lube after the muc off lube expecting it to last longer but it doesn't. I totally agree with their claims of keeping the chain clean but it just doesn't last that much (if any) longer than a traditional dry lube.

Bottom line, i'm going to keep using the muc off and re-apply when needed.

    neil853

to be honest i find it very similar to muc off dry lube.

there's a small parking area there but she's right there isn't much. We stayed with them at the begining of the year and we had five cars and filled what space there was and more. Top place to stay though and the food was awesome!
